Filthy, infested house of horrors, renter beware
We were so excited to stay in this unique looking home to celebrate my fatherâs 80th birthday. Unfortunately upon arrival we immediately realized the house was in horrific and unsanitary condition and the listing had seriously misrepresented it. We found 3 live mice in the kitchen alone, and every surface was covered in droppings. There was a mouse inside the dishwasher that jumped out at us. There was also a glass filled with something rotten that was covered in maggots that were also crawling around the pantry. The entire house was also covered in ants. None of the bathroom garbages had been emptied and there was a rotting diaper stinking up the whole upstairs. I wish this was the worst of it. The listing advertised two bedrooms on the ground floor which was crucial for us and the seniors in our group who couldnât use stairs. One bedroom is actually down a whole flight of stairs in a dank and moldy basement room. We documented slugs on the walls and black mold in the vents. My 80 year old dad had to sleep in a chair in the living room for the night and woke up with a mouse on his foot. The owner insisted cleaners had come but said sheâd send another crew to which we explained she needed major pest control not just housekeepers. She refused to refund us our stay or release us from the reservation and insisted we stay in the house during fumigation - which was not an option considering the immune compromised guests. The house should be banned from vrbo.
