Mas des Issarts is situated on its own hill overlooking a magnificent valley, and beyond that, over 30km of views due South containing the Maures mountain range, numerous hills, vast forests - and practically no sign of habitation. Yet, located in the Haut Var, it is within 45 minutes from Saint-Tropez, Cannes and the Gorges du Verdon.
Built in 1850 and recently renovated, Mas des Issarts offers its residents all the rustic character and charm of a traditional old farmhouse, with all the modern comforts needed to garantee a dream holiday in the South of France. The interior will charm you with its oak-beamed ceilings and thick ancient stone walls, alcoves, stone arches, and other decorative touches. The colour scheme is warm and based on traditional materials, and the entire effect, together with the immersion in the vast and beautiful natural surroundings, ensures true relaxation and escape from the normal pressures.
This magnificent holiday home of 300m2 (3330 sq.ft.) can receive up to 10 guests, with very large common rooms, 5 spacious bedrooms, 4 bathrooms with very original design, all well-equipped with beautiful furniture and original artwork. The thick stone walls help to keep the house cooler during the summer’s heat. The double-height ceiling living room (80m2, or 860 sq.ft.) offers a mezzanine, 7 large windows, a balcony with an unparalleled view, a fireplace and other amenities for relaxation. The kitchen leads externally to the wisteria-covered terrace, and internally to an intimate sitting room and a large dining space, providing an invitation to prepare delicious meals surrounded by friends and family.
Once outside and in the grounds, the size of the property, the immersion in the olive grove (300 trees) and forest, the surrounding pristine nature, and the isolation (no visible neighbours and no noise), guarantee the ultimate in relaxation. Guests can also go to the beautiful tiled swimming pool for a refreshing dip, or for sun-lounging on its wooden deck, still with the extraordinary view.
Three ancient hilltop villages within a few miles, Callas, Claviers and Bargemon, provide food shops, pharmacy, cafés and restaurants – even local museums. More generally, the back-country of Provence is a land of many historic villages, with traditional and artisanal markets, such as Fayence (21m), Seillans (16km), Chateaudouble (16km), Mons (28km), Tourtour (31km), Salernes (39km), etc.
Looking to the beaches and high-life spots of the Cote d’Azur: Saint-Tropez (50km), Cannes (50km) and Fréjus (37km) are very accessible. The region is also famous for its many natural attractions, foremost among which the Gorges du Verdon (35km), (aka Europe’s Grand Canyon) which can be seen from the summit road or by hiking down below. There are also many local hiking trails, as well as lakes such as Saint-Cassien (28km) or Sainte-Croix (50km), and golf clubs of international reputation such as Saint-Andréol or Terres Blanches.
Note that the house contains one stairwell without a handrail, and that the grounds (being a steep hill) are terraced with many “restanques” i.e. drops – so that vigilance is required with small children!
It is the magical combination of a lovingly-restored traditional spacious property, with all the activities available nearby, and the splendid isolation in raw nature (with no visible neighbours, no noise), together with the inspiring views, which will make your stay at Mas des Issarts unforgettable!
