Day Trips, Fish Flips and Chilly Dips!
I cannot say enough about how wonderful the Hall House is. Our family of 4 adults and 4 teenage boys spent a week there, and what a fantastic week it was! The house is exactly as pictured with spectacular views of Narraguagus Bay and the open ocean. The deck and screen porch are wonderful places to relax and enjoy those views. The kitchen is clean and well stocked. Beds are super comfortable, and you can fall asleep listening to the waves crash on the rocks, which is truly cathartic! A welcoming vase of fresh wildflowers was on the porch table and fragrant blueberry soaps were in both bathrooms. A nice extra touch! The host was quick to respond to messages, provided some great suggestions for area attractions and made us feel welcome before we even left home.
Sunrise over the bay is beautiful and definitely worth waking up early for. Schools of fish swim in front of the house which makes the area a feeding ground for seals. The water seems to boil with jumping fish as the seals swim in for their meal. There are a number of lobster traps close to shore, so we watched from the deck as lobstermen hauled them, a front row seat to a bit of real Maine that many people don't get to see.
Our grandsons swam every day off the rocks. The water was a chilly 51.2 degrees, but they had a blast! They also caught a few fish. A word of caution, the rocks can be very slippery so be careful if you decide to brave the chill and take a swim or do some fishing.
There are a lot of places to see within an hour of Milbridge. Lubec is a lovely little town where you can see West Quoddy Head Light, the famous red and white striped lighthouse that stands on the easternmost point in the U.S. There are some nice hiking trails in the park.
Acadia is an hour in the other direction and worth the trip. You will need a park pass to visit. Recommend purchasing and printing your pass from home for the week you plan to visit. A separate pass to Cadillac Mountain is needed and well worth the $6 entry fee for the spectacular views. Check out the less crowded Schoodic Penninsula (part of Acadia) as well.
There is a lot to see and do in the area but some of our best days were just staying at the house relaxing, reading, swimming and fishing. If you are in need of a little rest and relaxation and/or a great family vacation this is the place!
