Welcome to Cairn Cottage. This beautiful, completely tasteful and comfortable Lake Superior home sits right on the shore of Lake Superior. Quiet, private and easy to get to the water's edge and enjoy what you came for...the sounds and sight of the water and waves. We can't say enough about how well-appointed this home is and our guests can't say enough either! The two spacious bedrooms both have lake views, cozy & comfortable beds/bedding and they each have a 3/4 bath right next to them. One main floor bedroom and one upper level bedroom plus the loft. The upper level loft accommodates two guests comfortably on the plush twin beds. Did I mention that there are Lake Superior views from practically everywhere inside this gorgeous place!?

Ski vacation

5 people, 4 skiers and one who loves some alone time. Close to the ski hill, the short drive to Lutsen is worth the amazing view, hearing the waves all night, and comfy living. Great communication and loved the gift of pancake mix and syrup! Perfect for 2 couples and one teen. Only bad thing was the book and game selection was so good I didn't get to any of the projects I brought along!

Always lovely

This is our third time staying at this cabin. We always enjoy the proximity of the lake and the short drive to Lutsen. The cabin is always clean and cozy. Only issue is the fireplace that wouldn’t stay on for more than 10-15 mins and then wouldn’t turn back on for hours, which was a bummer after a chilly day on the hill.

Cairn cottage

The cottage was very nice and clean with everything we needed. The fireplace didn’t work properly and the kitchen cabinets need a little repair. We did have a great stay and would stay here again.

Charming cottage on the big lake

Beautiful setting right on Lake Superior. Very convenient to nearby parks, hiking and Lutesn and Grand Marais. Lots of outdoor spaces to enjoy the lake. Very quiet!

Cairn’s

Best stay in 46 years. No rain over 7 days. The lake was calm and peaceful for the first 4 days. Do clear you could see the bottom. We never experienced this in the 46 years we’ve been going to the North Shore.

Beautiful days at Cairn Cabin

We have been here before and will be there again. The location is spectacular, the cabin is comfortable and we are glad the new stairs to the shore are in place. We were so, so happy.

Red Cabin on the Lake

This is a picturesque perfect place right on the lake. I love that you can see Superior right from the windows. I love the firepit on the side of the cabin. I think the cabin feel inside is un matched, yet the modern appliances and kitchen are really nice. Over all the place is worth the money and a great place to stay. Do not hesitate. The location was top notch as well!

Beautiful, Practical, Comfortable, and Clean!

One time during our stay I thought, "If a person can't relax and have fun in this home, they must have made a mistake picking their travel destination." We were 5 and centered our activities around our toddler grandson and his parents. The house was beautiful, tastefully done, and very thoughtfully furnished. I have a bad shoulder, but my son could have thrown a rock into the lake from the deck of the house. The setting of the firepit was a great perk. Did I mention the beautiful lake and the great view from the house?! The beach was very close and easy to explore. We enjoyed experiencing our different views of the lake and sky that alternated with weather and daylight. Watching and hearing the waves was fun for our group too. We saw lots of water birds swim by and even deer trotting by on the beach. Parking was convenient. We were a short drive from lots of hiking trails and several waterfalls. The town of Grand Marais was only minutes away and also offered lots to explore - harbor, trails, town. Someone gave lots of thought to guests' needs because the house was stocked with lots of practical and useful items. There were other homes in the area, but we always enjoyed the privacy we had in this awesome setting. Our extra communication with the owner/manager of the property was limited, but it was always exemplary in friendliness, promptness, and helpfulness. We give this very comfortable and clean home and those who rent it our highest recommendation. A+++

Perfect peaceful getaway

This cottage really does have everything you could need. Pictures don't do it justice. You walk in and see the lake through the wall of windows and instantly feel the stress of life fading away. The northern lights even made an appearance. The hosts have provided all the comfy things, soft blankets and great matresses. It was a sister weekend and we will be back!

Wonderful stay at Cairn Cottage

We were looking to get up north for a few days of waterfall season and staying at Cairn Cottage was perfect. The cottage is clean and cute and the location is excellent. Thank you!

Great place on the lake

Six of us stayed in the cabin and had a great time. We enjoyed sunrise and campfires on the lake as well as walking the beach. The cabin had a great view from any room. The DVD player was not working so we didn't use the tv but we had games and family time which was much better. The place was well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils and we cooked all of our meals on site. We were hoping for three bedrooms but the loft area worked well for a sleep area and we all had our own space.

The ultimate North Shore getaway!

If you want to wake up in the morning and gaze at Lake Superior from your bedroom window, this is the place for you! The spirit of the lake and the North Shore is with you everywhere you go in this well kept and thoughtfully appointed property. We did miss being able to walk along the shoreline, but apparently the staircase was washed away over the summer, according to entries in the guestbook. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, however, since there was a sweet firepit along the upper bank, complete with Adirondack chairs and its own stack of firewood!
