Property review

A few problems. First, the communication with the property manager wasn't as smooth as prior experiences. We didn't know when we would get the move-in instructions until the day we arrived. Second, the party ahead of us made a big mess the overflowed the garbage bins in front of the main door/entrance. The garbage smelled and attracted flies and mosquitos. Plus, having to walk by the garbage every time we entered or exited was not pleasant.

DO NOT STAY HERE: Host 'forgot' to give us check-in code, and half the unit infested with flies.

Upon arrival at 4pm, we were unable to get into the unit. The host messaged us that "You will be given the front door access code when you arrive". But when the 10 of us showed up (my parents, siblings, spouses), there were no instructions, no host, and no message from the host. We messaged and called the host over and over while we sat in the driveway in our 3 cars. No response. We finally reached VRBO. The rep called the host repeatedly and finally reached her. She said she didn't check her VRBO messages because she has bad internet. She gave us the door code but did not apologize. She was a little defensive. The VRBO rep told me when she got off the phone that they've had to contact her multiple times before because of issues or disputes. Anyway it gets worse. Once we opened the door, we discovered that the entire downstairs of the home was infested with houseflies. I don't mean a few, I mean 60+ between the ones flying around and the dead ones on the kitchen floor (we counted 44). It was disgusting and clearly hadn't been cleaned in months. We closed off that part of the house which meant that instead of 6 bedrooms, we had 4. Instead of 4 bathrooms, we had 2. It was crowded and miserable. The rest of the house looked like it had been cleaned by teenagers. There was dust and dirt everywhere, smudges on the walls, all the dishes needed to be cleaned before use. The whole rental experience was pretty bad. This person should not be allowed to host on any platform ever.

Great location, Perfect for a large family

I stayed at this property with 12 of my family members, having 3 separate units was really great because each of the families had their own space. But then in the main house there is a large kitchen and dining area where we could all gather. The location in the heart of downtown San Jose was perfect with lots of great restaurants nearby, also the property is less than 15 minutes from the San Jose airport so really easy for airport runs. There was really only one negative which is that there were not enough towels available for 13 people and we had to run to Walmart and purchase a few towels. But overall we had a wonderful experience! The units were all really clean and updated. We would definitely stay here again.

Mostly Good

Communication was pretty good and check in was super simple. House suited our needs well with the separate living areas because we were of group of 6 co-workers. Only two things that weren't great - the basement showers are only for short people. Like I'm 5'5 and nearly touched the ceiling of the shower. And I guess ants are a thing in San Jose. Don't leave food out.
