Historic Thomas Chapel house - Half mile from Downtown Boone

Thomas Chapel was originally built in Watauga county near Tennessee in 1886 . decommissioned in 1967 and then bought in 1977 as a Mother's day gift for a former member of the church . It was taken apart and reassembled in her backyard. Her great grandson later converted the chapel to what is now the comfortable sanctuary located in a private valley on the outskirts of Boone. The church has been turned into a home which boasts a bell tower and 30 foot vaulted ceiling complete with the original hand hewn structural timbers. Nestled in a scenic hollow with a mountain stream and woods on one side and farmland on the other. Half a mile from downtown Boone, this private chapel is conveniently located 1 mile from Appalachian States Campus, and 20 minutes from 2 of the areas finest ski resorts. Come and experience a piece of high country history.

Amazing stay

It is truly an amazing place to stay. Everything was perfect. It is a close location to downtown Boone and a wonderful place to stay. I really don't think you can find a better place.

The vrbo was very nice, clean and comfortable. Privacy was great. The owner was flexible with our booking when requested due to a health issue and Hurricane Helene last year. Would recommend renting this property.

A peaceful, restorative stay

Thomas Chapel was easy to find, and a quick drive from Downtown Boone. Set back from the road far enough that it was actually pretty quiet. I definitely rang the church bell every time we came through the door. Incredible craftsmanship, such a calming atmosphere. We were actually able to rest. We loved the decor and the small creek running beside the Chapel. All in all, a fantastic stay!

Fantastic Property

The house was perfect for our family of 4 and the location can not be beat. It's a 2 min drive from downtown Boone. Lots of land for kids to run around and the house itself is unique and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

Thomas Chapel is the perfect place to go out and enjoy everything in the area and then come ,"home" and rest and relax. As you sit around it is a calm enveloping place. One truly feels the love invested in the restoration of such a special place.

Unique Experience

We really enjoyed our stay at this historic Chapel. This unique home had all the amenities of home. The inside is absolutely beautiful with the tall ceilings. The bed was extremely comfortable. We felt right at home. This location was so close to everything we wanted to do. We defiantly want to come back the next time we are in Boone.

Wonderful, unique stay right near App State

We were in town to visit App State with my son who may apply this year. We couldn't have found a better location or host! The house is immaculate and so unique with the woodwork and details. We stayed with our 2 teenage boys that camped out in the pull out bed each night and used the kitchen as well for breakfast and leisurely mornings. Such an upgrade from local hotels and privacy and nature abound.

Beautiful property!

What a fantastic few days in Boone! We spent two nights in this gorgeous chapel during my daughter's spring break. Daniel's communication before arrival was top-notch and he was so responsive when I had a question. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in the chapel renovation was stunning and we felt so comfortable throughout our stay. The location can't be beat. It feels as though you're tucked away in the mountains, yet you're only minutes from downtown Boone. We will absolutely return and cannot wait to enjoy this excellent property again.

Beautiful Propertt

We were in Boone (first trip to this area) for a football game and vacation. In planning our trip we searched for “best places to stay in Boone” and this property came up at the top of the list. It did not disappoint!! It is such a unique property. Great location, absolutely immaculate, quiet, beautiful, very comfortable. Large living area, huge bathroom, comfortable bed, lots of attention to detail in the design. Daniel was very helpful with the couple of questions we had. We would definitely stay here again if we travel back to the area!!

Beautiful Refuge

Daniel, the manager of the property could not have been better, he was very responsive and helped us with anything we needed. The property itself is amazing, exactly as it is in the pictures but they do not truly convey the grandeur of the space. We love old barns, etc and to have something that looked so old (it actually is a 1885 church) that functioned as a new home was perfect. I would highly recommend! It is close to town but felt very secluded. The view out the kitchen window was a pre-civil war barn and a pumpkin patch. Perfect!

The chapel was a most awesome place to stay. So much better than a hotel. The chapel detail is fabulous. Rooms are expansive which make one feel you are at home. Chapel interior is extremely clean with needed tools to prepare breakfast, lunch, or dinner if one chooses. Furniture and bedding is very comfortable with plenty of TV channels. One highlight was seeing deer each night feeding outside the chapel. We hope to return in summer. Well done, Daniel.
