The Dackel - Townhouse in Historic Soulard

Located in the heart of Historic Soulard within walking distance to the neighborhood coffeeshops, used book store, Farmer's Market, and dozens of locally-owned restaurants and bars. The Dackel is a light-filled, two-story loft-style townhouse with a private entrance and off-street assigned parking with enough room to park two vehicles in tandem (one in front of the other). Amenities are conducive for a short or long-term stay. The brick courtyard is a relaxing space to enjoy your morning cup of coffee!

The space includes a full kitchen and living room on the main floor. The second floor starts with a spiral staircase and features an ultra comfortable King bed, full bath, and large walk-in closet. All basic cooking essentials, coffeemaker with fresh roasted coffee, linens, towels, iron, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, high speed internet, and a 48" SMART TV, and record player with records are provided. Free washer and dryer, with complimentary laundry detergent, are located in the basement for your use.

The private front entrance has code locks for easy self check-in. You'll be provided with a personal code prior to your arrival, which will be unique to you.

My wife, Laura, and I live three City blocks from the The Dackel. We'll assume you'd like completely privacy during your visit, but if you need immediate personal assistance, we can meet you within minutes.

Please note that while the location provides you with the benefit of convenient access to great restaurants, bars, and shops, you will be in a bustling entertainment district and may be subject to occasional urban sounds, such as a loud car or excited group of bar-hoppers walking past your home.

The Dackel is next door to The Dachshund and and The Doxie, which are similar Townhouses to the instant listing. If you are looking to accommodate more guests, you can rent one, two, or three spaces at once if they are available! Because we operate adjacent townhomes, we try our absolute best to book wonderful guests to ensure your neighbors are respectful. As a result, we do NOT host guests that are local to St. Louis and/or with 0 reviews! This our non-negotiable policy.

The Dackel can accommodate a maximum of 2 guests. NO additional guests will be permitted on the property at any time for any reason during your stay, unless they have been pre-approved.

* If you are looking for a long-term rental (two or more weeks) due to a work or family commitment, please send me a message and we can discuss a discounted rate based on the length of time of your planned extended stay.

The designated parking spot was close to the townhouse and I felt was very safe. This was in a location with a lot of "night life", but the townhouse itself was quiet and had nice garden/courtyard views. The townhouse kitchen was very well furnished with everything you need to cook meals. The welcome basket full of snacks was appreciated! The whole place was super clean and comfortable.

The apartment is a funky, comfortable space that feels like you are New Orleans with its porch and shady garden courtyard. The location is in the heart of the Soulard music and bar scene. Bed was so comfy and we slept well. Host was great. Can’t wait to come back!

The townhome is exactly as described. Clean and welcoming. Extremely walkable neighborhood. The designated off-street parking was nice, too. We had easy communication and check into the townhome. We would stay here again.

I stayed here for a bachelorette party in the surrounding area and it was such a convenient location! Having dedicated parking was a major plus. The owner also has very good communication. I will say, there was dirt in the bathtub when I arrived and trash in the trashcan, which seemed weird. The fan blades were quite dirty, but towels and bedding seemed clean. The unit is attached to two others, and there is little soundproofing. I could easily hear other people in the other units and outside on the patio. There is a balcony upstairs and all three units share it, which made me uncomfortable from a safety perspective because anyone can have access to the door to your unit that way, which is very close to the bedroom. I was especially uncomfortable when I realized there was another guest standing outside smoking on the balcony right outside of where the units bathroom window was, where I was getting ready for the day. Something to be aware of for future guests. The couch in the living room is wildly uncomfortable and small, if that is something that matters to you. If you just need a place to sleep and get ready before going out in soulard, and the shared balconies aren't a concern, then this might be a good option for you.

I stayed here with my 13 year-old daughter Sat-Tues and we had a great time. We loved the neighborhood and even though it's bustling on Saturdays, the townhouse was very quiet. Parking was easy and ideal and we loved walking all over the neighborhood. We had brunch at Molly's, pizza down a few blocks, and were very amused by all the golf carts. People in the neighborhood were so friendly. It was an easy drive to everything we went to see as well- the Arch, the City Museum, Forest Park, etc. I don't think anything was more than a 15-minute drive. I highly recommend!

Quick trip to STL

We only stayed two nights there, but really loved it! It’s super close to busy bars and there was a lot of young people partying in that block but surprisingly we weren’t bothered at all by the noise! Even though it was a short stay it’s a lovely place to enjoy, walk around, rest and sit on the porch.

Great Location for Exploring Soulard

My husband and I enjoyed our weekend stay in The Dackel. Spacious, open main level with a well-supplied kitchen, host-supplied snacks and bottled water in frig. and upper level was a large, comfortable loft with full bath and a covered balcony where we enjoyed after-dinner wine on a rainy evening. Off street parking was a plus in a neighborhood with multiple restaurants and crowded street parking. A very walkable location, just 3 blocks from the Historic Soulard Market, a must see place for fresh produce, flowers, a variety of shops and food vendors. Don't hesitate to book this rental, unless you would have mobility limits with a spiral staircase leading to the bed and bath area. James was very easy to communicate with throughout booking and check-in, and he had in the rental a notebook of detailed information about a variety of restaurants, pubs, and other things to do in St. Louis. James' attention to detail made this a very enjoyable 5 Star place!

First time in St. Louis!

Was looking forward to this trip for months!Arrived in St. Louis very early (7am) so began with a little site seeing and preparation for the St. Louis GO 5K & 10K we participated in. We made contact with property owner to advise of him of our rental car details and due to my early contact he offered an early check-in. Very generous on his part and convenient for us! I didn't want to take too much advantage of their generosity, so we checked in around 1:30pm instead of agreed 4pm. I was a little apprehensive upon arrival due to the property access and parking being through alley, but a few minutes of being settled and getting our bearings, we realized what a perfect place! We quickly fell in love with the historical Soulard area, and the property was absolutely perfect!! The apartment was very clean, nicely decorated, and exactly as described. Walking distance to almost everything, we took complete advantage of local sites(neighborhood architecture) and businesses nearby. Including the owners properties "The Protagonist Cafe" & "Pieces." Great places for refreshments and atmosphere! During our stay we had a small hiccup, but owner Jim showed up promptly and remedied. We saw the standard historical sites we had planned for, but that's another review. All in all this was a great property and we would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice safe place that is walking distance to local fare or a short drive/ride to downtown St. Louis historical sites!

Lovely long weekend

we found this rental because we wanted an upscale experience in the heart of a unique area in the city, and we got far more than we expected! The property was well-maintained and charming, with a lovely courtyard and usable kitchen (my partner and I love to cook, so it is was great for that!). We also loved sitting on the porch and having martinis :-) Our hosts were responsive and welcoming. The neighborhood was lovely!

We had a great stay at Dackel in Soulard. We could walk to Anheuser-Busch, and catch a Lyft to the Arch and Zoo. Fun neighborhood.

My wife, Laura, and I are transplants to St. Louis. She is from Philadelphia and I am from Pittsburgh. We moved here in 2012 for new jobs, met each other, and fell in love with each other and St. Louis! We live in Soulard and are very passionate about this neighborhood. We own two businesses in Soulard, Protagonist Cafe (the local coffeeshop and used bookstore) and Pieces (a board game bar and restaurant). We live above the coffeeshop and are highly active in neighborhood groups and boards. Laura loves to compare us to Luke and Lorelai from The Gilmore Girls, especially after we started our AirBNB and Vrbo journey!

We purchased this property from a long-time resident of Soulard who operated this space as a short-term rental for 30 years! The moment we stepped foot on it, we knew it was magical. The moment you step on the property you are surrounded by an open-air Courtyard filled with beautiful foliage and aged ivy cascading up the historic brick building. It truly is a quiet oasis away from the urban setting. The Dackel itself is a modern, clean, renovated space that makes you feel at ease the moment you enter. The first thing we hear most of our guests do upon arrival is throw on a record, pop open a bottle of complimentary wine, and relax.

Location! Location! Location! You are walking distance from quaint coffeeshops, the highly popular and historic Soulard Farmer's Market, and bars and restaurants (many of which are known for their gorgeous outdoor courtyards and patios). The Dackel is also a 5 minute Uber drive from Downtown so you can easily access the Arch, the Cardinal's, the Blues, music venues, and the new Ferris Wheel and Aquarium! If you're more of a homebody, you can avoid the bustling activity outside by cozying up and making dinner as we provide all utensils for cooking. We are also within walking distance of a locally-owned grocer, Vincent's Market.
