House was fine, Vacasa was notâŠ..
My family and I have been coming to Topsail Island for more than 35 years. It is the highlight of the year for us. We had just received our email from Vacasa with our key code. The whole family (grandparents, cousins, uncles, aunts, siblings and parents) was super excited to be staying in the Topsail Tower for the second time. It was ocean front with a pool and room for the whole family. We had been driving for about 6 hours. Check in was at 4:00 and as we were approaching the bridge to go onto the island at 3:30 we received a phone call telling us that our rental (Topsail Tower) was no longer available due to a mechanical issue. Vacasa told us we had two choices. We could get a full refund and turn around and go home or they could offer us two houses (one was not large enough for all of us) and our group would have to split up but we needed to decide quickly. One of the two houses just had a last minute cancellation or otherwise I guess we would have been out of luck. We ended up taking the two houses. One was ocean front with a pool. The other was not and was also miles away from each other. My group ended up in Sea and Sunset (not ocean front and no pool). The house was nice and accommodating. Other than not being what we were expecting a downside would be that the key pad was on a door that seemed to house mosquitoes so badly that we had to use an alternate door that did not have a key pad. The house did not leave us any instructions for the TVs, trash pick up or check out instructions. Vacasa did not offer that to us either. This is the second time Vacasa has interfered with our vacation. Three years ago we were all set to stay in one house but the owners had removed their listing with Vacasa. Luckily we knew before the day of. Vacasa told us that the house was no longer being rented. We found out later the owners just went with a different rental company. As I said Sea and Sunset was a nice house. Just not at all what we signed up for. Things happen for sure but this was a very disappointing start to our vacation. We have also waited all week for a return phone call from Vacasa regarding this issue. Our vacation is over and still no phone call, or any compensation for our troubles. (They did say the would issue a refund for the difference in priceâŠ).
