Apple Canyon Lake stay

Stayed before and was still very nice. The hot tub however was replaced since our last stay the new tub is much smaller and notas comfortable for four adults.

Everything was 80% correct

Here is my overly thorough take on this 4/5 star cabin Cons: Can confirm there are many minor issues in every room. Stained comforter, mildew in shower door, broken toilet paper holder, double wall windows had inner windows shut but some outer windows open. Fireplaces did not work. Kitchen was barely supplied, no salt or pepper, gross sponges and soap container, only a few pots and pans and only 2 sheet pans total. I know it sounds dumb but the light switches were confusing. There would be a panel with 3 switches where one is power to the switch the middle one is also power but with a dimmer and the third one was a mystery switch that did nothing. Dvd player seems to function until you put a dvd in. Myself and 2 others all have 4 year degrees in computer related fields and none of us could figure out the AV situation in any room. Outdoor space was winterized (duh) and this is onky a con because it obviously hadnt been looked after for a year or so because there was dirt build up on everything. The gas grill downstairs was a joke. I dont think you could fit more than 2 burgers on it and the gas wouldnt ignite even. Downstairs kitchen had 1 plate and a dirty knife in a drawer otherwise empty. It is out in the country so if you arent used to country darkness it may seem very dark. That being said the drive out there is incredibly hilly and winding with multiple blind hills where you cannot see over them until you are over during day and nighttime. And the drive into galena is 30 minutes away Pros: Decently secluded and thick walls give great privacy. Water pressure was awesome. Hot tub was clean and hot when we arrived but the floor was soaked from previous rainstorm. Also only door to hot tub from inside is through the master bedroom. (Sorry not a pro, I know) Lots of cups bowls and plates Plenty of parking room Great view of nature from all windows Plenty of fridge and freezer space Comfy couches Lots of games Held heat very well and distributed heat well Plenty of towels/wash cloths All in all like i said 80% correct, place honestly just needs some small fixes everywhere and it would be perfect.

Very nice home!

While there are definitely some things that could be repaired/updated, all in all we had a very nice time. The rental agency could not have been more responsive and helpful when we had difficulty getting the fireplace started (someone had turned the main switch off underneath) and by providing us instructions on the main floor TV (there are lots of remotes and it was very confusing). We had a wonderful time and the home met our needs very well. We would love to stay here again. Thank you!!

Christmas Togetherness

The basement was a bit too cold. The main shower didn't drain. The futon in the 3rd room upstairs was broken. Had to sleep on the floor. The living room TV kept going completely black with the sound still on. We would unplug it and turn the TV off and back on to continue watching. There's a weird feeling bump on the floor walking into the master bedroom. (As if it may fall through to the basement) Garbage can outside wasn't large enough. No mop for the floor was found for the snow and salt brought in. Would have been nice if we could have used the garage. Everything else was great! Great Table and space.

Needs a handyman

The house was clean but all the windowsills were dirty with dust and bugs!! Different lights with fans were all separated from the ceiling, hanging by wires. The kitchen faucet handle fell off. The front door base fell off and my husband fixed it! The master bedroom bathroom handle moved. The basement closet smelled foul!! All the outside furniture could use a wash and cleaning. Porch full of leaves. Back deck with a hose laying on top of furniture. Alps TV outside on the side of garage!!

Enjoyed our stay

Very nice house, plenty of space for four adults and four older kids (ranging from 17-24). The basement was great for the kids to play cards, games, foosball. Nice kitchen and large dining table. Second kitchen in basement.

Nice location and very spacious. Enjoyed the amnesties, too balcony, and hot tub.

Very pleased with our stay. A couple quick fixes could be master bathroom handle, kitchen faucet handle, and update/clean up bottom balcony area.

Nice house

The inside was nice. Communication was excellent. The outside could use some cleaning up. The lower patio was pretty much unusable. Upper deck chairs were dirty. Has great amenities, hot tub on the deck and pool, beach, restaurant near by. Nice location.

Lovely home with lots of space

Stayed for a mom-cation with 2 friends. Listing is very accurate. The filters for the coffee pot are basket style. And that coffee pot was awesome - once you make a pot you push the lever and you fill the cup instead of having a glass carafe. Such a nice feature!! Beds were comfy and nice warm linens. Bathroom had several fluffy towels. We did not use the hot tub, but it looked very well maintained. It does show some wear and the master fan is noisy, but those were very minor things in a beautiful home. Definitely worth the price and will be staying here again.

Anniversary getaway

This home had everything we needed and was located in a beautiful and quiet area. The drive to Galena took about 30 minutes and was a beautiful drive.

Apple River

This cabin/resort was just as pictured. Cabin decor made for a cozy feel. Our cold weather trip allowed for much enjoyment of both the hot tub and the fireplace. Plenty of sleeping space and a well stocked kitchen kept everyone happy. We had a couple of questions during our stay and the owners provided very timely and helpful responses. Would recommend this place. Close to winter activities and, for those vacationing in summer, the cabin sits right on a golf course. Can't go wrong here!

GREAT HOUSE JUST NEEDS AMENITIES UPDATED

We do an annual girls trip to Galena. This house was nice but could use some updating on the amenities and better instructions. The light switches in the house are difficult to figure out. It lists that it has a DVD player and it does but there are no remotes and neither work. We had brought movies to watch and were very disappointed that we could not. To use the TV in one of the bedrooms you have to use the living room remote and stand 1/2 way in the hall to access the Dish box in the living room but to also see the channel guide in the bedroom. The house could also use a deep clean. There are random and odd things laying around. Behind the armoire in the basement there is a sock and lots of dust bunnies. There are no directions as to where to take the garbage to. The notes say that on Sundays leave the garbage in the garbage can on the porch where the hot tub is but there is no garbage can there? We had to take a bag home with us. The handle on the kitchen faucet is also broken.

Good Stay

The house itself was comfortable and big. Had all the basics, pots/pans, working dishwasher, stove and microwave. All of them clean. TV and internet worked well. The hot tub was hot and ready to go. Easy to use. There are some parts of the house that definitely need some updating. The fan in the master bedroom needs to be reinstalled, it was noisy, loose and wobbled a lot when we tried to use it. Ended up just turning it off. Several panes in the master bedroom shades were missing so light comes in. The most disappointing part was finding two mice in the kitchen. I know the house is surrounded by wooded areas but still.

VRBO Stay

Overall we enjoyed our stay. With the exception of the outdoor furniture and the spotty internet, the house was great. The outdoor furniture was basically non-usable, but everything else in the house was clean and in good working order. There were plenty of activities in the area to do.

Great Getaway

The home was clean and everything in working order. Beds were comfortable. Beautiful back yard but the deck furniture had to be cleaned and the chase lawn chairs had filthy cushions that we couldn’t clean. We would recommend some deck furniture that could fold down. Also, a few folding chairs in the home would be helpful as their are only four chairs at the big table and we were 8. Great location to the lake. Helpful staff.

Perfect couples get away

Pros: This place was SOOOO cozy. Extra heating in the bedrooms and throw blankets were a great touch. The location was amazing and waking up to a deer napping in the fresh snow was a plus. The property is well cared for and someone even came out to shovel and salt the steps and walk way. Con: This con is no fault of the property owner. This location is DARK, and I mean DARK DARK, after night fall. If your driving, shop early and come early.

Fun, quick getaway

My family of 4 had a great time. We were looking to get away and this cabin was great. We were surprised at how big it was. The trails were fun to walk. It very much had a cabin feel, but with all the conveniences. The foosball table was a great plus. Only downside was the hot tub water quality looked like it could use a little attention. We had a great time and we would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a retreat to get away and slow down for a little bit. Thanks for hosting us,!
