I love this neighborhood for the richness of history of stone coal, the endless mountains and river valleys located in the Wyoming Valley. A lot of hiking to do here. Itâs the Diamond City for nearly 3 centuries Wilkes-Barre would contribute to several chapters in American history including constitutional history, industrialization, labor history, ethnic history. The region is still dotted with culm banks, or coal waste piles, that are a reminder of the industrial past. The area offers abundant opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts, including hiking, biking, whitewater rafting on the Susquehanna River and visiting several nearby state parks.
