The property was beautiful, our host was friendly and responsive, and nearby access to public transportation made our stay unforgettable. I would highly recommend this lodging to anyone who is looking to explore downtown Chicago and is willing to get familiar with public transportation. It was convenient and comfortable and we will definitely stay here again if/when we return to Chicago.

• It is not beachfront. The beach is about a mile away and not a convenient walk.• The “kitchen” is not a kitchen. It’s a mini microwave, dorm-size refrigerator, and coffee maker on a shelf. You only discover this in the fine print—not the photos.• This is not a private apartment. It’s a basement in the owner’s home with no real privacy. The owners have access to the space and can enter without notice, which is especially concerning for solo travelers.• The host was difficult to communicate with. Rather than addressing our concerns professionally, he made jokes, minimized our concerns, and repeatedly read from his policy book in a condescending manner. The home and neighborhood are beautiful, clean, and appear safe. Unfortunately, the misleading listing, lack of privacy, and poor customer service outweighed those positives. We checked in, saw the property, left, and never returned.

We find this review to be extremely unfair and misleading and would like to clarify a few points for future guests. Our listing clearly identifies the space as a private basement/garden suite with a separate entrance in our owner-occupied home. It also accurately describes the kitchenette, which includes a mini refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. These details are not hidden. During our conversations, you acknowledged that you had not read all of the listing details. Our listing has never advertised the property as beachfront. It states that we are conveniently located near Chicago's lakefront, beaches, McCormick Place, the Museum Campus, and downtown attractions. Your comments regarding privacy are also inaccurate. Guests have a private entrance and exclusive use of the suite. We do not enter the space during a stay unless requested by the guest or in the event of an emergency. At no point did we enter the unit or receive any privacy concerns from you. Finally, our communication before your arrival consisted of reminders about policies already disclosed in the listing, including registering the correct number of overnight guests and the 2:00 p.m. check-in time. Despite those reminders, you arrived two hours early expecting the suite to be ready. We take pride in accurately representing our home, and our many positive reviews reflect the experience that guests can expect when they read the listing and book accordingly.
