King of Bait and Switch--Don't stay with this Host (Laci) at any Property
We booked this lodging due to it's location close to the areas that we wanted to explore, washer & dryer, and 2 bdrms and baths. On 'paper' it's ideal.
The host, however, is a piece of work.
First he demanded we pay the final installment a week before the due date.
Next he asked us to call him on his own phone (not thru VRBO mail) 3 days before we arrived to tell us that the unit couldn't be used since the bath had plumbing problems. But he could let us use a unit "nearby" which was twice as big for the same price. "Nearby" was over a mile away and further from metro stations than this place, which we had reserved 4.5 months before our trip.
The day before we arrived he messaged that reservation was cancelled (no reason, fake or otherwise was given) and that we should contact VRBO for help finding other lodging. But he didn't actually cancel the reservation before our arrival in Budapest, so support couldn't assist us since the reservation was not yet formally cancelled (a huge raspberry & finger to our "host" for cancelling last minute). I left msg for Laci by phone the morning we arrived for him to cancel the reservation, and he finally did a few hours later.
Upon arrival, we found there was a Formula 1 race going on in town that weekend. Lots of Formula 1 fans in town needing lodging. Our bet is that the 2 units were double-booked & he kept the higher paying renters & stiffed us.
