I think Deb from Atlanta's review for January 2014 is spot on. The house is well kept, well appointed, well laid out, and distinctive with lots of character. The decks include about six different areas and the house is quite capacious. I echo the caution that the railings are low for small children. The waves at the west end of Mary Creek lap gently and you hear them in the distance, the area is quiet and with low traffic, the roads to the property are great for walking to Francis Bay, about a quarter mile, or about .6 miles to Leinster Bay lot where you hike another half mile to the Leinster bay beach and Waterlemon Cay. This area has great snorkeling, and the area to the west, the coast on the way to the Cay, is also good snorkeling. At the mouth of Mary Creek is a well kept secret, I think: a beautiful coral garden with corals of various types, some not so commonly seen. Also unique and unmentioned in guide books are the mangroves in Mary Creek, which while not quite the ones at Hurricane Hole, are very beautiful and interesting and a great example of this ecosystem. When winds stay calm, the water clears and if you bring a flashlight, you'll really see some interesting fish and coral, as well. The point of course is that all of this is in walking distance, not to mention Francis Bay and Maho Bay, and these are places on the less-travelled north shore. In the mornings before 9 and after about 4:30, the parking lots at the beaches were empty. We are not St John regulars, but we were very happy with this house as our first accommodation and feel fortunate to have chosen so well. You have to have a Jeep; we rented from Varlack and were very happy with their professionalism, especially when our car developed problems. The North Shore is distant and quiet and you have to make a 20 minute drive to town for its facilities, but the quiet, the beautiful views and night sky, and the privacy, surrounded by undeveloped land, was wonderful and for us, entirely worth the drive. The house does have essentially four separate bedroom areas, one a small room for children that they do not advertise, and one shower is al fresco, the best view I've ever had while showering! I thought the Andretti and BJ were generous and helpful in getting us settled, helping us find the grocery, etc on our first day. I recommend this house very highly.
