"Casa da Malta" - omgivningen av Évora (30 km)

"Casa da Malta" är en regionalbeteckning, för att utse en byggnad som är separat från huvudhuset (t.ex. en ladugård), där de var inrymda säsongsarbetare, bland annat betecknade "malteses".
Så vi heter "casa da malta" 2003 från befintliga ruiner, som ligger intill men helt oberoende av andra hemägare, möblerade med familjemöbler, varav mottagna vänner och tillfälliga gäster.
Detta hus ligger i en tomt på 23. 500 m2, i en lantlig miljö vid ingången till byn Escoural (kommun Montemor-o-Novo). Vanligtvis skott av Alentejo regionen - en våning, en lång rektangel, dörrfönster mot öster - det gör det möjligt för ett lanthus med stora vitkalkade väggar och små fönster (skydd mot kall men speciellt mot värme på sommaren). Du kan titta på stjärnorna, att gå runt, köpa bröd fortfarande varm ... och besöka Evora, UNESCO arv stad som ligger 30 km.

Wonderful experience

The cottage is beautifully decorated and quite large. Everything you could possibly need is found within, There are some lovely spaces to sit and enjoy the property. The hosts go out of their way to make sure you are happy including leaving you treats on the patio. You can easily walk into Sanitiago do Escoural which is a quiet little town. There are some great restaurants in Montemor O Novo just a 15 minute drive away.. I can highly recommend this property as an exceptionally great place to stay.

Delightful hosts

A great experience !! An old farm building converted to a comfortable and quaint guest house. We felt like we were transported back to Old Portugal. Our hosts were amazing and very attentive. A well stocked fridge and pantry awaited us along with a welcome bottle of wine. Each morning they delivered freshly baked pastries to enjoy with our coffee. We felt like we were in a rural setting yet it was only a few minute walk to some nice local restaurants. A truly unique experience !

Rural paradise.

We spent five wonderful nights and days, at this exceptionally hosted and well appointed holiday home. The most outstanding feature is the owners, who have over the years built a perfect rural retreat from almost nothing. Their generous nature and genuine care for their guests, shines in everything they do. Communication was excellent, by phone and in person, before and during our stay. Both Maria Emiliana and Fernando spoke English, much better than our Portuguese! We were welcomed by Fernando, who give us a fully comprehensive, personalised guide to the property. As others have said they set the highest standards of hosting both by their attention to the needs of their guests and the quality of the fixtures and fittings in the house. The bed and the bed linens were so luxurious that sleeping was a delight! The property sits on the edge of a small village but which, nonetheless, offers some shops and bars and restaurants. However, a larger town, Montemor, is just a short drive away where you’ll find two supermarkets that sell fresh foods and great wine selections too. If you’re looking for a calm and relaxing rural setting look no further. We recommend that you book this holiday home without any hesitation you won’t be disappointed.

Lovely place with great hosts.

Casa da Malta is a one bedroom private cottage with the owners living next door. The cottage was clean and well-maintained. The bed was very comfortable and the shower and toilet were modern. We arrived Saturday evening to find out that shops were closed Sunday, and that Monday was a national holiday. We had brought a few groceries with us, but were amazed that Emilia and Fernando had stocked the cottage with coffee, eggs, bread, a few fruits and vegetables, cheese, a bottle of wine, beer and chips. It was also very much appreciated that the cottage was stocked with things that guests need in small supply but are rarely provided—coffee filters, plastic wrap, tin foil, and paper towels for example. There was even a pot of fresh herbs provided! We both love to cook, so this is a dream for us! If that wasn’t enough, there was a treat left outside our door every day- something local for us to taste and learn about. The fresh pomegranates sourced from their tree was a special treat! Fernando and Emilia are warm people and were happy to answer questions and provide help, but were also very respectful of their guests privacy. They obviously enjoy meeting people from around the world, and sharing the wonders of Portugal. Thank you Fernando and Emilia for a wonderful visit!

Great quiet getaway

Fabulous location

The property is a beautiful traditional style cottage next to the owner’s property & surrounded by gardens & fields. There are plenty of private nooks to find to sit in to either enjoy the sun or to find some shade. The house itself is perfect, very comfortable with everything you need. Maria & Fernando were excellent hosts & provided a much appreciated welcome selection of bread, milk, cheese, fruit & wine for our first evening. Maria spoiled us with treats of pastries turning up on the doorstep whenever they were there. The cottage is on the edge of the village which is delightful & there are several decent supermarkets in the nearby town of Montemor. The location is perfect for visits to Evora & the pretty towns around & about all with their own castles. The castle at Montemor is one of the best although the guide books seem to dismiss the town. I can’t fault our stay, absolutely fantastic.

Séjour mémorable en Alentejo!

Maria Emilía et Fernando sont des hôtes tout simplement formidables. Attentionnés et généreux, ils ont tout fait pour rendre notre séjour dans leur hacienda mémorable. Le logement est spacieux et confortable, très bien équipé; plusieurs terrasses et jardins invitent à la détente. Il y avait quelques provisions qui nous attendaient à notre arrivée, en début de soirée. Et que dire des surprises matinales laissées discrètement à notre porte! Nous nous en sommes bien régalés! Nous recommandons fortement ce lieu charmant, propice à la détente! Merci encore Fernando et Maria Emilía! 😊

Wat een heerlijke plek om te verblijven! Het huisje is compleet ingericht. In de keuken ontbreekt het aan niets, de badkamer is mooi en er zijn binnen verschillende plekjes om te zitten. Natuurlijk is buiten zitten nog fijner en ook daar zijn verschillende plekken waar je heerlijk kunt genieten van de natuur of waar je kunt ontbijten/dineren. De omgeving van het huis is rustig, de plek is een goede uitvalsbasis voor verschillende tripjes. Fernando and Maria Emília zijn fantastische hosts. Zij zorgen ervoor dat jij je als gast helemaal op je gemak voelt en ze doen er alles aan om je te helpen met vragen en je verblijf zo aangenaam mogelijk te maken. Elke ochtend stond er weer een kleine attentie klaar om de dag mee te beginnen. Wat een lieve, hartelijke mensen!

Ruhiges Alentejo mit tollen Gastgebern

Das Haus liegt am Ortsrand von Escoural, sehr ländlich und mitten im Alentejo. Das ist ideal für alle Ruhesuchenden, man muss aber unbedingt ein Auto haben, denn in der näheren Umgebung gibt es nicht viel. Im Ort findet sich allerdings alles für den täglichen Bedarf und auch ein paar Restaurants. Die Unterkunft ist landestypisch und liebevoll eingerichtet, das Grundstück bietet viel Platz und Möglichkeiten zum Entspannen. Maria Emilia und Fernando sind die freundlichsten und herzlichsten Gastgeber die man sich wünschen kann. Sie zeigten sich überaus flexibel bei einer kurzfristigen Buchungsänderung und gehen gerne auf die Anfragen der Gäste ein. Außerdem überraschten sie uns regelmäßig mit frischem Obst oder kleinen Leckereien. Insgesamt sehr empfehlenswert!

If we could give 6 stars we would!

We had a most wonderful time during our stay with Maria Emilia and Fernando. They were the most welcoming hosts and have such a beautiful, well maintained property. The cottage was as advertised and more. It was very private and extremely clean and well equipped. We arrived late afternoon on a Sunday and our hosts made sure there was food available for us in case we weren't able to shop along the way. They also brought us Portuguese treats most every morning - all of which were delicious. The village is very quaint with a few cafes, restaurants, bakeries (make sure you get there early) and small mercados. It is conveniently located to many attractions - we visited Elvas, Monsaraz, Evora and several megalithic sites including the Escoural caves. Our hosts provided lots of helpful information about places to go and things to see. We very highly recommend Casa Da Malta and would happily book the property a second time.

Wonderful Stay in Escoural

Over the last nine years we’ve arranged medium- and long-term rentals for nine accommodations in Europe. Our 80 day rental of this cottage in Escoural was very special in every way: comfort, roominess, furnishings, well-stocked kitchen, bathroom with shower, washing machine, wifi, setting. But far and away what made it even more special were the owners Maria Emilia and Fernando Ribeiro. Their kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity, company were well beyond a 5 on a 5-point scale. We cannot imagine more conscientious, helpful, attentive owners. Too, the location was excellent in every direction: the region rich in history, culture, nature; the area littered with megalithic sites for those interested; a hiker’s delight through villages, towns, fields, hills; the service town of Montemor 15 minutes away; the magnificent historical city of Evora 30 minutes away; Lisbon an hour and a half away. Our stay was excellent in all ways.

Everything we wanted and more

What a delightful rural cottage! The perfect spot to sit and read a book and relax, as well as convenient for day trips to nearby villages and historic sites. Maria Emília and Fernando were the very best hosts, welcoming and helpful in every way, from the pastries left for morning coffee to the fresh bread and goodies in the fridge, to pointing out the most scenic routes, our hosts missed nothing. We only wish we had stayed longer! If we return to Portugal this lovely cottage is where we will go. Thank-you Emília and Fernando!

Great place with fantastic hosts

My wife and I spent six days in Escoural and had a fantastic time. Our hosts were exception - they gave us great tips on what to see and where to go as well as giving us an abundance of food products. The scenery around the area gives you a real insight into life in Portugal

Vacances de rèves, dans un endroit merveilleux....

français Un très grand merci à Madame et Monsieur Ribeiro pour leur gentillesse, leur chaleureux accueil dans leur maison pleine de charme décoré avec gout dans le style de cette région merveilleuse l'Alentejo, maison où rien ne manque pour passer un séjour très agréable. Alojamiento ideal

Hemos pasado nueve días fantásticos. La casa y la finca tienen mucho encanto. Cenar, por ejemplo viendo las estrellas ha sido un gran placer. Las fotografías no reflejan lo bonita que es la vivienda, la decoración esmerada y los detalles. Los dueños son maravillosos, muy atentos (a la llegada el frigorífico estaba con los productos básicos para un par de días) y todas las mañanas nos obsequiaban con una sorpresa. Sin duda, ha sido una buena elección.

Paz e tranquilidade para ler, pensar e escrever

Como fui a primeira portuguesa nesta casa maravilhosa tenho de deixar aqui o meu testemunho, em português claro está! Passei uma semana nesta casa muito espaçosa, confortável e com todas as comodidades necessárias. Está muito bem equipada. Não me lembro de nada que fizesse falta! Até excelente musica tem (Clássica, Jazz)... Sendo uma mulher e estando sozinha sempre me senti muito segura, mesmo à noite. Passei a semana a ler e a escrever sendo preciosa a tranquilidade, silencio e paz deste sítio. Trabalha-se muito bem cá fora, na mesa de refeições, com muita luz... em dias de grande calor está mais fresco dentro de casa mas a sala tem um pouco menos luz. De qualquer forma é um sitio muito bom para ler, pensar e escrever... muito inspirador! Tem ótimo acesso à internet (e é rápida). Os hosts são divertidíssimos e muito prestáveis... todas as manhãs tinha uma agradável surpresa, pequenos miminhos que nos fazem sentir tão bem...há em Montemor um excelente mercado com produtos locais e há restaurantes km zero (com produtos locais) na região, inclusivé no Escoural. Esta aldeia tem pessoas muito simpáticas, quer nos cafezinhos como nas mercearias e restaurantes. Adorei e mais do que recomendo a estadia neste paraíso a cerca de hora e meia de Lisboa :)

Great hosts, beautiful nowhere

We have spent a wonderful time in Escoural where two very enthusiastic and warm-hearted hosts successfully took care of our well-being for four days. The house was equipped with everything that you could wish for (and much more). Thank you so much for your warm welcome, your helpful tips, your delicious surprises every morning and the opportunity for our son to enjoy his first swimming pool experiences.

Great, peaceful way to spend a week in Portugal

Our hosts greeted us at the start and were very helpful with information throughout our stay. The property is rural in setting so to see sheep watching us as we drank our coffee or read was a treat. The cottage is exceptional in what it has to offer in terms of amenities and equipment and is very comfortable. To see the area a car is necessary to go to surrounding towns and villages. If we had to rate our hosts out of 1 - 10 they would be a 30. The best hosts we have encountered in more than 15 years of traveling in Europe. We would definately recommend this cottage to any of our family and friends.

At the entry of the village and beside a road, we are not isolated and we go walking to take a coffee or so. However, the configuration of the buildings ("your" house and a small backyard protected from glances from outside) creates a little private street out of the traffic noise.
