We created wonderful family memories. The property was as pictured and as described with all the privacy we wanted. One day we asked the excellent staff to go offsite for the day so that we could feel like we lived there - then we were so happy when Chef came back and made us a late snack at 8pm. We enjoyed the recently renovated spotlessly clean swimming pool and the kids loved fishing off the private pier. We will be back again soon.

The listing is described a private home and pool, but we arrived to find two adults, two children, and a dog living directly beneath the property, under the steps to our rental facing the pool.We had to insist just to receive a key to secure our own door. Meanwhile, the downstairs unit had security bars on their windows, while we were expected to leave our doors unlocked.The the shower in the ensuite bathroom never stopped dripping water and it was difficult to sleep. None of the beds had blankets only sheets.Additionally, the pool was green with algae, the pump wasn’t functioning, and what was described as a private amenity turned out to be anything but. When we left for the day, the downstairs residents and their children would use the pool, leave items and dirty underwear on the deck, and further diminish any sense of privacy.Several key features advertised were completely missing, including:No fire pit, BBQ, corn hole or yard games, bikes, fishing gear or bait, broken TV-new one was replaced halfway through, only one kayak provided initially, despite advertising two – we had to press to get the second one, laundry service or dryer.Finally, the listing advertised groceries included, but again, we had to press repeatedly to receive even basic food.There is a disconnect between the owner and the on site hosts. We asked the hosts if they had read the listing and they said no. We told them they should read it so they understand why guests are disappointed.

We had a wonderful experience at Escape Away Belize. The hospitality of Carlos, Judith, and Armando was unmatched! The food was delicious and they made it effortless for us to do some excursions while we were there. Highly recommend.

On the beach comfortably rustic

Great spot to kick back and enjoy Belize. Carlos and Judy handle all the details and prepare simple but delicious local foods to enjoy. Located on the beach north of San Pedro about 6 miles on primative road. Golf cart access is great and makes for fun adventures to secret beach, north bar on the beach, and trips into town. Very relaxing stay in a beautiful country.

Wonderful stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Carlos and Lucita were warm and wonderful hosts. Having the food prepared was a huge help and was so delicious. My husband and I came with our 12m old and the house was equipped with a highchair, pack'n'play, and had many little toys. It was perfect. We rented a golf cart for our time there, which is necessary as the house is about 45min from San Pedro town. There are numerous restaurants and grocers much closer though. The beach was kept clean from sargassum even though it was a monumental and never ending task. We have no complaints about the property or our stay. It was wonderful!

Our stay June 1-8

This property is out of San Pedro and is a great location from all the hustle and bustle of the town and all the golf carts. We really enjoyed the privacy. Carlos, Losita and Wilfrido were amazing. Wilfrido was always willing to do and help in any way to make our stay more pleasant. The Chef is not a 20 year Chef, but we never went hungry and there was plenty of food. Homemade tortillas, French Toast, fried and baked fish we caught on one of our excursions through No Worries Tours. By the way George and Mario were great guides on both of our trips. All of my Family had a great time and we would definitely go back.

Wonderful

What a great little place off the beat n path. Carlos and Judith are AMAZING! We enjoyed everything Judith cooked for us and she was great about accommodating our food dislikes and sensitivity. Carlos is always ready to help out or provide a good laugh. My best piece of advice is.... rent the golf cart, embrace the bumpy road and get to know the island, the people and everything it has to offer. At the end of the day you will have this peaceful place to come back to and RELAX.

Girls Trip!

We traveled as a group of 6 women to this beautiful property. We very much enjoyed the location, the pool, the food, and of course Judith, Carlos, and Wilfredo. They made our trip very memorable and we'll have friends for life! Judith's cooking was amazing! The home was a bit further out of town then we anticipated however it worked out even better as we really had a chance to enjoy the area and the home. We do wish the water was clearer in front of the home but there is not a lot one could do to change that. Carlos and Wilfredo cleaned the beach every morning, brought us cushions, and coconuts! It was a wonderful holiday, and we all hope to go back soon.

Amazing place! It was beautiful, clean and private. Carlos and Judith were the best part!

We stayed for a week with three adults. Plenty of room and the house is well-equipped. The beach, dock and palapa were definitely highlights. We also enjoyed the porches, kayaks, fresh coconuts from the yard and trips to nearby resort pools. Our scuba/snorkel and mainland tour trips were booked with No Worries company, and they were great. Even when the weather threw us a curveball they made sure we had an amazing adventure. What really made this place stand out was Carlos and Judith. We arrived to a Thanksgiving dinner of grilled lobster that was to die for and Judith's food was consistently delicious from beginning to end. Carlos' hard work was evident daily in the upkeep of the property and he was kind enough to help us find our way around the island whenever we ventured out. On top of that they spent time with us... swimming, playing cards, getting drinks in town... they were incredible hosts who truly made us feel welcome! No place is perfect, and there are a few things that could make Escape Away better... more comfortable mattresses and showers with consistent temp control top the list... but nothing so distracting as to take away from a 5-star review and a great recommendation. Thanks!

Easy going, comfortable, fun, and no fuss!

I can't say enough about how happy we all, yes, all four of us, are with our stay at Escape Away house. The house was clean and the dock and view was spectacular! We flew in using Tropic Air and Carlos met us at the airport with a car to take us to the house. He asked when we wanted to eat and then called Judith to get the food ready. We came home to barbecue lobster, potatoes, and coconut rice! We had already booked our first tour with No Worries Tours (recommended by Jerry, the owner of the home) and Hill took great care of us. Hill kept in contact with Carlos so that our transport went on schedule. The dock is strong and sturdy and survived the storm 3 weeks ago. Our second tour had Hill picking us up straight from the dock which made it so much easier. Each time we came home from a tour, Judith had food ready for us. Carlos gave us great advice on where else to go in town to eat, directions to certain places to shop, and he even made sure our golf cart that we rented was always gassed and ready to go. Carlos even helped us out when my husband decided he wanted to go fishing. We kayaked to the buoy, tied up and snorkeled and fished. Carlos and Judith made our stay so comfortable! We have already recommended Escape Away house to our friends and we can't wait to return.

Don't Be Deceived

My family and I had planned this vacation for over a year and looking at the VRBO listing and the pictures provided and decided that Escape Away Belize was the ideal place for us. I owned a home in San Pedro for 16 years but never realized how far 8 miles north of town this house was.It is a long way especially at night. The photos in the listing were older and the entire house at this point needs attention, they did not accurately portray the condition of the house. The food was adequate and the portions were more than enough for the 8 of us. The pool and the pier were two of the best features of the house. If you do not like dogs this house is not for you. We had a local dog both in and out of the house for a week. We rented two golf carts for the week knowing that we would travel to town often. This was a big mistake, between the two carts they broke down 6 times leaving us stranded in town and one night driving 8 miles without lights. I requested a refund for the golf carts and was told by the owner I would receive one. I am still waiting. To summarize, Ambergris Caye and San Pedro has many beautiful aspects but this home is not one of them. I would not stay here again!

Your personal secluded getaway

I wish I could give 5 stars, but there are a few things to consider. The property itself is brilliant, ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat with incredible weather. However, be prepared to stay on-site for most of your stay. The journey from the airport is grueling, involving a long, dusty, bumpy, and hot 30-minute drive on a dirt road. But once you arrive, you'll find a beautifully maintained property with a private pool offering stunning ocean views, ample lounge chairs, and easy beach access. Inside, the house has a spacious gathering area with a large dining table, comfortable seating, and ocean-facing views. The beds are comfy, A/C keeps things cool, and the kitchen amenities are as described. The highlight is the staff - Carlos, who is incredibly helpful, and the talented chef, Lucita, who prepares exceptional meals. The owner, Jerry, is also highly responsive and caring about your stay. However, there are some drawbacks. We visited during the rainy season, so we expected challenges beyond the property's control. Heavy rain and mosquitoes kept us indoors. The property has tried to combat mosquitoes, but they can be relentless, especially after rain. Bug spray is a must. Additionally, the road to the property is tough, and mosquitoes can be relentless outside until you gain some speed on a golf cart. In summary, if you seek a secluded getaway where you won't want to leave the property, this is perfect. We loved our stay and plan to return.

Attentive and Excellent Location

We had 7 of us stay for 10 days, 2 of which were aged 15 and 21. Carlos met us at the airport and loaded all of our luggage to the beach house. Upon arrival, Lucita had dinner ready for us and snacks. Lucita asked each day what we wanted the next day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. She really catered to our needs for a family of 7. Carlos arranged for a tour guide to stop by the house and give us options on fishing, snorkeling and other tours. The boat picked us up at the dock promptly for each excursion. Anything we needed, Carlos was on top of from spa treatments on the beach to going to town to get us wine and other items we needed. Wilfredo was a life saver for the boys. He set them up with fishing off the dock every day, catching bait fish for them and also gave us a bon fire one night. This team worked hard for us and we really appreciated it. The beach house had plenty of room but could use a little updating (outdoor furniture cushions were torn and beat up, cornhole boards were very worn out and tether ball had no ball hooked up). We had the use of 2 golf carts (6 seater and 4 seater). The 4 seater died on two different days and Carlos had to come pick us up so we decided to rent a 4 seater in town. The house is quite a distance from town so if you need items or want to go shopping, just we aware of the distance. It was not an issue for us as we were there to spend time at the property. We already miss the ocean breezes and sounds of the waves.

Very Nice Stay

As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by Carlos at the airport and he took us to the beach house. It's a bumpy ride because the roads are not paved so be ready! The house is just as it is described. The rooms were nice and it was a perfect spot for us! It's very nice and secluded and the private palapa is perfect. It's also very nice that the tours will pick you up right from the house! The food was delicious and the fact that it's provided and prepared for you was a huge reason why we chose this location. However, we had no idea how much Carlos & Judith would impact our time in Belize - they are amazing! We invited them to eat meals with us, to hang out with us in the water, play cards, and they are so helpful with anything that you need. They also have Netflix which was nice in the evenings after a long day in the sun we could just relax and watch movies/tv shows together. I would absolutely recommend this place! It's perfect for families, friend trips, or a couples trip. If I ever return to Belize, I will absolutely stay here again. The only thing I would say that could be updated are the towels and cushions. I think it would be helpful to have towels dedicated to the beach and separate towels for showering. They were a bit worn out. As far as the living room furniture it may be nice to have more comfortable cushions - a little firm, but it was nothing that affected our stay. Tip for future guests - ABSOLUTELY rent the golf cart! It is the main transportation that people use on the island and it's already at the house and very convenient! Overall - Great stay! Transportation provided, food provided & prepared for you, and great company. Can't go wrong with this location!

a beautiful private oasis

We just spent 6 days at escape away! This is a true gem. If you are looking for a perfect, relaxing island escape… look no further. Communication with the owner and property manager were prompt and super easy, making it a carefree experience. There were 8 of us total, 6 adults and 2 kids (age 8 and 11). My husband and I like to rent little places throughout the islands and explore new places the local way. This trip, the whole family joined. We are a family that travels a good bit, usually all inclusives (because it’s easy with bigger groups) and we decided to try something different this year. We are all so glad we did this!! It was perfect in every way. The pool is AMAZING! The palapa is an awesome touch as well. The sargassum was bad when we visited but, we expected it and won’t ruin your trip whatsoever. Carlos is great and so friendly, despite that his wife Judy was ill during our visit. Her sister, Larissa (I hope I spelled that right), stood in for her and prepared yummy food for us everyday!! If we had any complaints, it’s only that the home is 8 miles from the main town… lots of it down a long, bumpy dirt road. Some of us didn’t mind it, just endured it each ride around. Others weren’t totally against it, just didn’t prefer it. The mosquitoes are also WILD, bug spray and all… they ate us up. Nothing the hosts can really do about this, they do try.! We had SO, SO MUCH FUN!! We are already looking to return. Thank you escape away for sharing your piece of paradise with the Hurt/Hilton crew!

Not as we had wished for…..

I’ve been trying to get my thoughts together for a week since getting back from our trip. I must say I never leave a bad review. 1. The ride to San Pedro from this hosue is NOT 25 mins by golf cart. It takes 45 mins It takes 33 mins to get to the “truck stop”. 2. The bed linens and towels were old and out dated. They could use a fresh set of sheets and towels. 3. The chef- unfortunately I believe the original chef is sick and unable to cook. So they have hired another person and it is as if my 17 year old kid was cooking. There is nothing out of ordinary about the food. Very plain and bland. We only had lunch one day because we were gone most days. Breakfast was bare minimum. It was 6 adults and we got1-2 pieces of bacon on the days bacon was cooked. We asked if we could have more bacon cooked and it was frowned upon and we were told they didn’t have anymore. They ran out of cheese and used cheese we brought for snacks. The options for dinner were chicken or hamburger meat. We asked for fresh fish. we got fish one night. The snacks and soda that are mentioned in the write up didn’t exist. 4. The pool is completely covers by trees so the water doesn’t warm up at all. It was ice cold. 5. The beach was full of stinky seaweed and water was brackish. 6. We asked about the boat use with a captain and Mr.Hill didn’t know anything about that. 7. The house was overall dirty. 8. The 3rd bedroom is a converted porch and felt like it.

Let me start by explaining that there is no 4.5 star choice which is what I would truly rate our experience. Our hosts, Carlos and Judy were the best. Carlos worked tirelessly to clear away the seagrass that relentlessly crept up onto the property's shores. This problem is happening up and down on the property's side of the island and we noticed the problem at Caye Caulker as well. It can't be helped at this time. This would be the only reason I rated the property 4.5 stars. Otherwise, me and my family (4 adults), had the most wonderful, extremely relaxing time. Judy is a great cook and treated us to some very delicious local fare (we love, love, love her Fry Jacks, curry dishes and the ceviche). She and Carlos were very insightful about their country giving us lots of great information. Carlos arranged to have Hill of No Worries Tours to come by, gather what interests us, explain the different tours and put together an excursion package. We chose the cave tubing, zip lining and Mayan ruins of Xunantunich package tour (very informative and lots of fun). We also booked a snorkeling tour of Hol Chan, Shark Ray Alley and Mexico Rocks, and chartered a boat for a half-day fishing trip (believe me, this was long enough for novice fishermen/women). For the tours, we were picked up and dropped off from the property for our convenience. Later, we enjoyed fishing from the palapa where Carlos supplied the bait and even prepared what we caught to add to our menu for the evening...thanks Carlos!! Renting the golf cart on the property was great and Carlos even offered to get extra fuel for us from town providing even more of a convenience for us. Carlos also arranged for Evelyn to come to the house for the included massage which was much needed. I had it done on the palapa...what an experience!! I found that our experience from booking this property to our last day there was very good. My family and I left with wonderful memories of our trip. Thank you Mr. Kirsch for working with us when my family arrived on two different days. Carlos and Judy, you were both so very helpful and we very much enjoyed your company. We also loved the time spent playing the card game Phase10 with you...thank you so very much for the memories. The Wells family

Great 12 days spent at Escape Away!!

We had a wonderful 12 days at Escape Away! The food was delicious! We just talked with Lucy, our chef for the visit, each day to plan the menu for the coming meals. We specified that we love fruit and veggies and they would get them for us. We had such good things including shrimp kabobs, grilled fish, conch fritters, fresh salsa and chips, guacamole, shrimp tacos, BBQ chicken, and so much more! The breakfast "patties" were our favorite! The location is out of town, but we loved our outings to the city and to Secret Beach. We also took a few dinners at the local recommended restaurants, which were delicious (our favorites were Moon's pizza and for a finer dining experience we liked Portofino). The house is very clean. The sheets were clean. We had a cleaning half way through our stay. The pool is nice, but it is not heated. So we preferred the beach chairs and the ocean! They worked very hard to keep up on the seaweed, although we were there during a very bad time for the sargasm. The weather was lovely while we were there, but if the wind is not around there tends to be bugs everywhere on the island. Carlos and Lucy were amazing! They helped us with whatever we wanted/needed. They played cards with us in the evenings. They were wonderful to us! Lucy even braided our 5 year old's hair every day! She is so good at it! The dogs were so cute. We miss them! We also had a great experience with the trip/excursion planning guy named Hill. He heard our needs for fun trips and scuba diving and set up several day trips for us. The tubing and zoo trip on the mainland is a must do thing! But the bugs are pretty bad at the zoo, so bring protection! We did two scuba excursions and I am still in awe of the beautiful reef in Belize! I must say though, that our favorite times were spent sitting on the patio at Escape Away in the mornings drinking coffee and in the evenings with our favorite cocktail! The trip to town took us anywhere from 30 minutes to 45 minutes and it is BUMPY! But our golf cart that we rented from Jerry was great and we enjoyed having our freedom to go anywhere on the island. Our two favorite beach trips were to Tranquility bay up north about 20 minutes golf cart ride and Secret beach which is about 20 minutes south. We went to each beach twice while we were there! Thank you Jerry, Carlos, and Lucy! You made our trip very memorable.

Not just a vacation but an adventure!

First I'd like to say thank you, thank you, thank you to Jerry, Carlos and Judith. I'm not sure where to begin so I'll start by saying that Judith and Carlos are the absolute best. Judith is an amazing chef and so accommodating when it came to meals. She cooked the fish we caught and whatever we wanted. When you are here you are on island time so if you expect things to move at rapid pace, just chill. You will have more fun. Carlos is the man. The dude can do everything with one knife or a machete. He climbed a palm tree ( he used a ladder) one morning and retrieved 6 fresh coconuts, used his machete to prepare them so we could have fresh coconut water. Of course, we put the lime in the coconut and drank them all up. We hung out with them all week playing corn hole and games at night. A side note, we needed some bait for fishing and their friends Andrea & Maite took us to a place where Andrea used a cast net to catch sardines. We enjoyed the conversations with our new found friends and learned so much about the area and the people. Make sure Carlos contacts Hill from No Worries Tours for any excursions you want to do. He will hook you up with what ever you need. We did he Mayan Ruins at Lamanai one day and a fishing/snorkeling/beach BBQ another day. Alberto was an amazing and informative guide for our Mayan tour. Also, the dude can drive a boat on a winding river which added to the experience of our favorite parts of the trip. Alfredo (Ted) picked us up at the dock and took us fishing, snorkeling at Mexico Rocks and then he prepared an amazing meal of fresh conch ceviche, grilled fish we caught w/ potatoes, onions peppers, carrots and tomatoes at a little beach bar along the coast.This is the place to be if you want to be off the beaten path. Make sure to stop at Bonito's store which just down from the house. We had breakfast in San Pedro on the beach one morning and spent some time wandering around. It is quite the adventure driving a golf cart in San Pedro and back to the house which is about 35 mins. north. This is not a 5 star resort but it is one of my favorite vacations because of the people we met, the things we learned and the friendships we formed. We have been truly blessed to have had this experience. There is so much more that I could say. So I'll leave you with this. Bravo and thank you again to Judith, Carlos and Jerry. Great hospitality from Carlos, Lucita, and Izer. Would come again! We enjoyed fishing right off the doc and getting the fish cooked for dinner. Overall the house was comfortable, well stocked, kids loved playing corn hole and the kayaks and pool. We did fishing, snorkeling, and scuba activities and were able to see sharks, rays, and more. Def rent the golf cart to get around and bring lots of bug spray for the mosquitos. The trip to secret beach and Caye Caulker was fun too. There is definitely the seaweed but just a little ways out water is nice and clear.

This house and pool are kept immaculate. The caretakers are extremely accomodating and will do everything in their power to help you, including cooking great meals at your convenience. The dock provides a relaxing retreat overlooking the ocean, and it's so fun to paddle the kayaks out to the reef. Diving and other activities can be arranged so that you are picked up right there! I come back every year, and I feel like I am returning to my home away from home.

We recently stayed at this VRBO and while the property itself was beautiful and well-kept, our experience was affected by some natural elements beyond anyone’s control — namely, a heavy influx of sargassum and a noticeable bug presence when the wind was calm. These made it a little more challenging to enjoy the beach and outdoor areas as much as we’d hoped.That said, the hospitality we received more than made up for it. The host was incredibly generous and communicative throughout our stay, and Carlos and his family truly went above and beyond. They prepared delicious meals for us, made sure we had everything we needed, and even woke up before dawn to drive my husband into town so he could join a dive trip to the Blue Hole. Their kindness and attentiveness made a huge difference and helped us feel cared for every step of the way.If you're considering this property, I’d recommend checking in with the host about seasonal conditions. With better timing, this place could be an ideal escape — especially with such a thoughtful team looking after you.
