A wonderful location

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This unit is very low key, minimal amenities but you really don’t need much when you are on Maui. The kitchen area is very small with under sinkspace that could be used for storage some reason was boarded up. The condo is small but worked for our needs.

Paradise near the ocean

The play structure and the park next to the outdoor patio made this place a must stay. Great location close to some great surfing areas and snorkel spots. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I enjoy this complex and stay here when I travel to Maui. The complex has everything you need with a laundry, beach access and a pool. I found property management staff to be very responsive and helpful. The unit was clean and furnishings were comfortable and at a good height for those that might have trouble with mobility. I made most of my meals and found the kitchen had all that was needed for such. There was a Roku tv. So I was able to sign on to apps I like to watch. I like the view of the park and ocean from the living room and pool view from the bedroom. The landscaping has been updated too. It’s close to shopping and restaurants. It’s a lovely place to stay!

The building itself is in a really great location of West Maui adjacent to Honokowai Beach Park and close to the best beaches like Ka'anapali, Napili, Honolua, etc. Unit #103 is situated right at the water's edge and next to the park so the kids can climb the tree, search for shells, play at the park, and with the reef so close to the sand, it provides a nice barrier for younger kids to play in the surf safely. The pool is nice and overlooks the water. Plus the condo itself had all the amenities one would need for their stay in Hawaii.

The place is a little bit dated but pretty comfy and has everything needed, it is also compensated with its great location, close to some beautiful beaches and your own next door park with access to the beach.

The properties along Lower Honoapiilani Rd are older, smaller and suffer from proximity to the road. But you can’t beat the proximity to the sea and the pool deck with the ocean nearly splashing your toes at high tide.

Wonderful place for a family vacation!

The furniture is much more updated that it shows in the photo and it had everything we needed to make it feel like home. The location of this particular unit is unbeatable as the patio is just steps away from the ocean and beach. Everything you need is also within walking distance which was lovely. It was a bit of a tight squeeze to fit 4 people but we managed. The pull out couch is about the size of a queen bed and takes up almost the whole living room when pulled out. Staff were wonderful and friendly! Would happily book this condo again if we are lucky enough to visit Maui a second time!

Amazing sunsets

This condo is right on a cute beach, community park, and has terrific sunsets right from the lanai. You can watch turtles from the pool deck and the sound of the waves lulled us to sleep. Would stay there again.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The Unit #3 condo itself is not noteworthy although it was adequate for our needs, but the patio (lanai) for this unit is to die for. Mere feet to walk straight to the ocean water lapping at the beach. The views are beach, beach park, and in the distance across the street there are shops including a market, Bad *** Coffee, and Boss Frog snorkel, bike & beach rentals. I can think of no better place for the money than Hale Kai to spend a week or so in paradise.

Disappointing Stay at Hale Kai

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My husband and I stayed at the Hale Kai for 1 week in late November 2013. The reservation process was seamless and upon arrival easily made our way into the unit using the lock box system. Our arrival was late evening and in the morning we were very surprised at the state of our unit. We found large amounts of hair, dust and bugs under the bed, hair in the shower stall and the floor had not been cleaned properly either. Minimum amount of cleaning done in the kitchen, cupboards full of old food which should have been removed. The furniture is old and tired, the stove is probably the original one bought for the unit in the 1960's. And the unit needs a good painting. We did speak to the property manager about the amount of hair and dirt in the bedroom so the cleaners came in and cleaned the floor but only under the bed leaving other areas in the room untouched. We were never asked if we were happy with the cleanup, no follow up. Note: some appliance upgrades have been made in the kitchen. The other issued staying at the Hale Kai was the proximity to the public park; there were numerous pit bull dogs with aggressive owners frequenting the park and staying most of the day, they would set up on the beach. We saw many dog fights, dog owners fighting and local thugs brought in to beat up a certain undesirable dog owner. We lost count of the number of times the police were called. The people staying at the resort were the ones calling the police. Certainly did not feel safe being on the beach and would certainly not want to have children around people who can not control their dogs. Maui has a dog law for public parks, they are to be on leashes but it is never enforced. This resort does have a good beach location and this seems to be what keeps people coming back. Given the state of the unit we stayed in, the lack of management of the unit and the continuing issue of dog fights, we certainly would not recommend the unit.

Great location unit needs a LOT of TLC

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We really enjoyed our stay at Hale Kai. It was easy to get into the room when we arrived, and the woman at the front desk was always kind and helpful whenever we needed anything. We stayed in unit 103, which is in the park side and has a great view of the ocean. However, our room was VERY run down and needs some work put into it. There is “paint” splattered in the wall, the screen door has to be jiggled a lot to open, the hide-a-bed is terrible (so I would consider this room for 2 not 4) the side of the stove was filthy, the fan above the bed is falling apart, the door to the bedroom is all broken apart at the bottom, and the tub in the bathroom needs a good scrub and the fan in the bathroom is absolutely filthy. My issues with Hale Kai are solely the room, everything else (location, management, employees, pool) were fabulous. We would stay again, just in a different unit.
