House of hodgepodge

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Paid too much for this rental. I would advise people do not eent this house. House was decorated with a hodgepodge of unwanted items from a thrift store. House extremely dusty. Master shower was so small and hasn't been updated since the 1970's. I tried to prepare meals for my family but the stove didn't work properly because it is so old. One burner wouldn't heat properly and the others over heated. The oven half heated. The pans and pots were unstable because the Teflon coating was flaking off in the food. Also found roaches in the utensils drawers.

September 2023 Stay

We had a great stay. All three couples enjoyed this house. It was very spacious, great layout. Room to spread out. The apartment bed could use a mattress update for greater comfort and the dining room blinds an update, upper deck a few missing spindles. But those minor issues did not keep us from having a great time. Great quiet location on a dead end. Very close to everything Jekyll Island has to offer.

Great Dunes Cottage

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall good but the house is beginning to look and feel rundown...quite dirty inside. Have stayed 3 times and each time it takes a day to "clean". It's such a nice house and location, hoping owners will take a good look at the property and make necessary improvements.

Love Jekyll, not our favorite rental

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We love the house and location but did have a couple of issues. The house needs a good deep cleaning. We pulled out dishes that had food stuck to them. Felt we had to wash everything before using. There’s was lots of dust and the bathrooms needed to be scrubbed. The pool service didn’t come until Thursday. I know bugs come with the territory but we had to work for hours before the pool was swimmable. The pool is the only reason we pay this much for a house! And the house was just cluttered. There’s too much furniture.

Almost perfect

The house was laid out great for our group of 3 couples. House was clean and beds were comfortable. Kitchen had the basics for cooking and the gas grill worked very well. The only thing anyone had to say that was negative was about the fixtures throughout the house. They could all use some updating. The pool was also very nice and clean without being overly done with chemicals. We all agreed that it would be a do over especially if faucets and spouts were replaced

Fun at Great Dunes

My grandsons enjoyed the apartment so much. The pool was so nice and the patio areas were also enjoyed. We enjoyed the home so much we have already booked it for next year. I liked that the home is located on a dead end the grandkids could enjoy the circular driveway you didn't have to worry about traffic.

Unique and well suited for multi-family

Outside of house could use a good pressure washing; grill should be removed as it's broken down/safety hazard. Bedding could be cleaner...especially pillows.

We loved our stay on Jekyll island! Overall the house was great for my family! There was a couple of cleanliness issues that I talked to Jekyll realty about, and the house needs some updates, but overall I’d recommend this place to someone else!

We would stay here again, but that deck!

We had a blast during our week-long stay on Jekyll Island. I'm not sure what the island is like during "normal" times, but we were there during the COVID-19 pandemic (mid-July). Several restaurants were closed, but we were able to find plenty of places to have a nice beach-side drink/meal during our stay. Anyway, I'd highly recommend visiting the island in general. Now, the Great Dunes cottage...FYI, we had the full 10 people allowed with mostly adults and 3 children (8 - 12 yr old). Pros - Excellent location (~ 10 min walk to beach, quiet neighborhood, close to golf courses, easy drive to anywhere else) - Really nice space (plenty of sleeping spots, nice covered outdoor space, nice sized pool, lots of fridge space, plenty of indoor seating) - Three full bathrooms - Nice sized pool = easily allowed 8 - 10 of us to lounge around at the same time...sun hits the pool in the morning, but by mid-day there are spots of shade and sun, so everyone is satisfied Cons - The decorations and furniture are definitely dated/old. We have no complaints of discomfort while sleeping so the beds and couches are good! It's just aesthetically not that pleasing. Whatever, easy to look past. - The showers are really small. Like, I'm 6' tall and was knocking elbows at every turn and I'm not uncoordinated or anything. - The bathrooms are small in general and old, too. Which is fine, they're functional, but they definitely are starting to look a bit worn and probably need updating soon. - THAT DECK IS NOT SAFE. I mean, it will probably stay up if you have a couple adults up there sitting or standing for a couple of hours, but you can definitely feel the boards bowing as you walk around. The supports are not correct. As in, there aren't enough of them. And the newer piece of support is really not doing much at all...weird, like it was thrown in to make you think they fixed something. Anyway, we just didn't use the deck - there isn't much of a view of anything anyway, but it would have been nice to sit up there at night. We would definitely stay here again. We'd love to see some updates if we came next year, but wouldn't be necessary. I would highly suggest fixing that deck! Thanks for having us, Nate & Family
