Beautiful house, great stay!

Had a great time at this very well appointed house in a beautiful quiet cove! Location was perfect for our kids who love to swim by the dock. Covered dock for our boat with slide and jumping platform was loved by our kids that ranged in age from 6-18. Kitchen was well stocked, better than most places we’ve stayed prior. If it weren’t for a work commitment next year, we’d be back for 2025 Memorial Day weekend. Hopefully will be able to return in 2026!

Great Location

Love this location on the lake. No wake zone allows for worry free swimming and just a short ride out to the main channel. The house is great for large groups.

This house was perfect for our large group!

We were here for our 11th annual Thanksgiving reunion. It was perfect for our group of 17. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed. It was very nice having double appliances. I would stay here again.

Great Lake Front House for Multiple Families!

We vacationed with several families and this house was great. Huge modern kitchen/dinning area for everyone to cook and eat together. Plenty of rooms for privacy if needed. Large dock tucked in cove allowed for great swimming area. Owners were easy to work with and answered our questions.

Multi-family Thanksgiving

We had an incredible family reunion at this rental house! The spacious accommodations comfortably housed all six families, providing a perfect blend of privacy and shared spaces with hang out spaces on each floor. The beautiful surroundings and lake views added to the overall charm. The hot tub wasn’t in ideal shape but that didn’t detract from our visit. It was the ideal setting for creating lasting memories with loved ones. Highly recommend for large group gatherings!

50th Birthday trip

We had a blast at Rock of Ages! We were a group of 18 adults and there was plenty of room for everyone. We travel frequently, this was our first lake house experience and it was fantastic! Highly recommend, John is great to deal with and knows everything about the lake. Thanks for a fantastic trip that made my 50th birthday amazing!

Great Location

This is our third year at Norris Lake and Rock of Ages, in our opinion, is the best location. The cove is beautiful with lots of privacy and very little boat traffic. There's a large dock with a huge upper deck. Getting to the dock from the house is a little tough once you're down the main stairs, the other set of stairs are very narrow and the gravel was difficult for some. The kitchen is well stocked (knives could use sharpening). The house was clean. We can't wait to come back!

Everything was above EXCELLENT.

The pictures on line really do not do this home justice.Everything about it is just simply perfect.We always rent houses when we go out of town, but I have never stayed in a home where the kitchen has been fully stocked like this one.It was a pleasure communicating with Mr.Jon, he made everything so easy and was always just a phone call away if we had questions.Thank you very much for this experience.We will definitely be back.

Family vacation 19th year to Norris Lake

Great location on the lake! Felt like private cove! Grandkids loved the slide! Could use a safety gate though to keep the toddlers away when not in use. A few cooking items/replacements were suggested as needs for kitchen. Had air conditioning/severe wall noise in one downstairs bedroom not addressed while we were there. No cleats on the dock so be sure to bring enough ropes to tie your boats off to the posts.

4 Generations Family Trip

Rock of Ages had all the room we needed as a big family group! Kitchen fully equipped & plenty of dining table space! We loved the private cove & 2 story dock (wish the path going down to it was lit at night). Only surprise to us was the entrance to the house (sloping driveway was tough to get vehicles up & down due to some gravel on driveway from road, it was slippery). We also didn’t know about the bridge/steps from the driveway to the front door (this was tough on unloading & then loading. Hard on my parents walking that extra distance plus all 3 levels of the house & then all the steps down to the dock/water. Wish there had been a photo of the front of house/bridge from driveway. Other than that we loved our stay (had a rain issue with some water intrusion in a bathroom, owner said someone would come out but no one did during our week there. ) House was big, lots of levels for everyone. Needed help getting tv’s on (maybe they’ll put an instruction sheet out in future.) We all had a great time together!!

Family Reunion

We had a wonderful week on Norris Lake for our 2020 family reunion. Rock of Ages worked out well for our group of 28. Internet bandwidth was a bit challenging for a few in the group who had some work during the week. For the rest of us with a focus of being on the lake, the dock provided incredible access. Kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming and floating in the quiet cove was great. We also rented boats and jet skis through the property manager which could not have been easier. They were at the dock when we arrived and we were able to leave them at the dock when we left. A return to Norris Lake will find us at Rock of Ages.

Rock of Ages Lake House

Each year for the past 30 years, we take a lake trip vacation with three or four other families for a week of wakeboarding, skiing , and surfing . We like to all stay as close together as possible , go our different ways during the day and have the evening meal all together. The last 2 times we came down, we stayed at Rock of Ages. It works our perfectly for what we are looking for. It is a huge house with plenty of space for everyone without feeling cramped . It is vey clean, and well maintained. The location is great for getting to the better ski water, which is to the East. It is also not too far to Shanghai Marina , to the West, where we like to stop for lunch a couple times during the week. It is also close to a cliff , maybe 10 minutes to the East also, that we always like to stop by and jump off. This house makes for a perfect water related trip, and we will continue to come here , as I don't see how you can get a better set up. I would highly recommend it.

Home infested with bats!

We checked into Rock of Ages as scheduled on a Saturday afternoon. By that evening at about 8, several bats had been spotted in the house and let outside. By the time we found the 12th bat inside, we realized the bats were inside the walls and ceiling. We could hear them scratching the walls. We could hear them in the bathroom vents. None of us slept that night. I was terrified the bats had an entry point in our bedroom or bathroom. Luckily they didn’t so we only had to deal with the tiny claw sounds about a foot behind our heads inside the wall. It was loud. And we are talking hundreds of bats. Several were also found dead around and inside the property the next day. Infestations happen and are often unavoidable. However, our qualm is with the extensive nature of the infestation. We do not think it is possible for a reasonable property owner or manager to be unaware of the infestation. At the very least house keeping would have notified them of dead bats or bat waste. Based on a few holes cut in the walls, it looks like the problem had been investigated already. To give you and idea of the terror, a bat popped out of a couch my son was laying on. A bat popped out from under the air hockey table. And instead of giving us a heads up, we checked in and then were without inhabitable lodging during a holiday week. This was a family reunion that was 2 years in planning and budgeting. And not only was the first few days of the trip derailed by bats, we also incurred SUBSTANTIAL costs associated with procuring replacement lodging and the food we had to throw out. If the property owners would have just let us know they had a bat problem ahead of our scheduled trip, we would have been able to mitigate our monetary damages. And I probably wouldn’t have bothered with a negative review because they would have been kind enough to give us time to plan accordingly.

Stay during COVID-19

We rented the property over Memorial Day weekend for a bachelor party and we had a good time overall. The house was delivered in good condition as expected. I just want to make a few points as to why we docked a star from our review. First, we were put in a difficult situation because of COVID-19, we felt like we should cancel the trip due to health concerns. Unfortunately, the owner was unwilling to refund us. We weren’t going to let our money go down the drain so we decided to make the trip despite current government recommendations and best practices. We had about 25% of our group cancel but we felt like we had no other choice but to continue with our trip as planned. The owner did offer to reschedule but that didn’t really help our situation any. It was hard enough to schedule 18 people for our chosen weekend and it was a holiday weekend. If we would have rescheduled, 18 people would have had to take a day off to make the trip. Second, they had to refill the hot tub the morning we got there which is fine but we were instructed not to use the hot tub the first day so it could heat up, no worries. By our third night the hot tub finally hit 99 degrees but as far as hot tubs go it’s not really warm enough and it quickly starts to cool as you use it. This was a bit disappointing. Third, when we booked this house back in January the management company said they may request a larger security deposit than what we had already put down. I replied that we are happy to discuss it. Fast forward to a week before the event (end of May) I get a notification that we have to pay triple the original security deposit. At this point we were a week away from the trip, we had already paid in full, and I had already collected all the money from the 18 individuals that were supposed to attend. Had the management company followed up prior to this back in February before we paid in full, this would have been fine but due to how close we were to the trip I had to push back. After a quick response from the team at Norris Lake Properties we got the issue resolved so I’m not holding this against them in the review. I did however think it was worth noting. Given the circumstances, we made the best of the situation and still managed to have a good trip.
