On 34 acres, This was once part of the Grand Hotel and is known as Grand Hotel Fish Camp, and can be found online at GrandHotelFishCamp.com The historic cottage is a one bedroom 1 bath and approx 1400 sq ft with a deck and patio for entertaining. Luxurious King size bed the cottage is perfect for a couple or single occupancy. Sheets are 1000 thread count. Comforter is lightweight. The cottage can accommodate an additional 2 people on a deluxe sofa bed and an additional one person on a twin bed. The cottage has one bathroom with tub and shower completely furnished with amenities including luxury towels. The home is situated up a hill away from the flood zone and The furnished boathouse is just down the hill with with outdoor furniture, city water, hot water heater, refrigerator, grills and microwave. kayaks, paddleboard, and canoes available. The surrounding property is wooded with fields. There is a porch and patio with hot tub for outdoor entertainment and a grill. Guest privileges at the Grand Hotel & Lakewood are available at extra cost subject to availability of the hosts. Excursions aboard our Hatteras 37 are available also, subject to availability and extra cost.

The setting with an enclosed yard and a walkway to the river was perfect for us and our dogs! The host was friendly and obviously takes pride in maintaining and updating the property.

The place was incredible. Beautiful home, quiet, our hosts was really nice and always responded when I needed. The property was like a haven. It was great fishing and kayaking. They provided everything you could need. I hope to go back soon

We were told this property was a property of the Grand Hotel and the amenities of the hotel were available for an additional fee. We tried several times to contact host to inquire about this but was never responded to about. When we contacted the hotel, we were met with pushback that "absolutely not" were we allowed access to the amenities of the hotel, "especially the pool". Very disappointed in 300 per night with taxes and fees when the description was inaccurate. The property itself was charming and we were well accomdated, but leading us to believe we had access to the hotel amenities was deceiving.

Gina, We are very sorry someone told you that you were entitled to the privileges of the Marriott Grand Hotel Golf Course and Resort. We are pretty careful NOT to make this claim. At one time the hotel was privately owned by local residents and my family owned this property which was the Grand Hotel Fishing Lodge and is now in the Baldwin County Historic Register as Grand Hotel Fish Camp. The old Grand Hotel was sold to Marriott after a family member died and we kept this property to settle an that estate as opposed to other joint ventures. Back then it was not worth much and today still is not but Marriott and Retirement Systems of Alabama in a joint partnership have done an incredible job with the Marriott Grand Hotel and Golf Resort. In regards to communication, we were in contact for the duration of your stay. I checked on you twice by text to make sure you were enjoying your stay and you replied absolutely you were. Privileges for the Resort were never inquired about at either of those opportunities when I reached out to you through our text messages. In regards to your costs I can only reply about what I know and that is indicated by clear communication from VRBO and their system. Our rates range from $139 per night to $159 per night. There is a $125 cleaning fee of which ,just FYI , does not cover the cleaning service who is very competitive with their rates to us and others. Most of the local rates start at $300 per night. VRBO gets a percentage of our rates. Any costs over that would need to be directed to VRBO. We regret any inconvenience you may have experienced and hope that you are able to enjoy your VRBO stays not only with us but other properties in the future.

The owner was very accommodating to our schedule. Loved the area. Pier needs some work. Rotten boards, steps, and chairs. Grass needed cut. But overall will stay again

This was a great quick getaway to celebrate our anniversary. It had so many interesting pictures and decor, it was fun to just walk around and look at everything. The bed was extremely comfortable. The shower was good. My only complaint is that we were looking forward to using the hot tub, but apparently there was a recent issue with it and it hadn't been repaired yet. It happens though, so we understood.

Grand Hotel Historic fish camp!

We loved this place, thank you Frank, Thanks for bringing Kevin back to the cabin! Not how I thought we would meet up but leave it to Kevin to search out and find some where else to be. He was very comfortable and enjoyed the cabine as well. I love the privacy, the sound of dogs in the background, the boat dock, all of it!! I got all of my Thanksgiving dishes made over the few days we were there and couldn't have enjoyed my time anymore. I look forward to going back and checking the entire 34 acres out! Happy Holidays!

This cottage is the Historic Fish Camp which was once part of the current Grand Hotel Marriott. It was Purchased in 1939 by our family as the fish camp of the Grand Hotel. The cottage has operated as the office, entertainment venue, horse racing and retriever field trials center and strategic planning center for many a card game or fishing adventure as the Grand Hotel Fish Camp. While it has been modernized we have tried to decorate according to its history with a look and feel of 40's - 60's photos and memorabilia. The home is equipped with an office desk, internet, DirectTV, breakfast room, washer and dryer. The outdoor deck overlooks the field leading down to the river and boathouse. There is a patio for entertaining and a hot tub for relaxing.

The cottage sits just up the hill from Fish River and the boathouse. Kayaks, Canoes, and Paddleboards are available at no extra fee. The boat house serves the property but is most often quite private. The owners have another boat house nearby that they use. The boathouse is equipped with a grill , sink, refrigerator, microwave and television.

The property is dog friendly in honor of the history of National Retriever champions that have lived and played here. If you are more interested in opportunities to play with your dog you may find that info at BelleShain.com
All dogs are required to be registered through Belle Shain with current vaccination records.

In addition to being the Fish Camp for the Grand Hotel the property has two other historical events.
The property was encamped by General Canby of the Union army enroute to the battle of Blakeley, the last battle of the Civil War.
The property is the site of the historic Wingender Pottery. We have found various whole jugs from this pottery dating back into the late 1700's to early 1800's. The University of South Alabama Archeology department has visited and explored the site notably led by Bonnie L. Gums who published Made of Alabama Clay: Historic Potteries on Mobile Bay.
