Sandton City is attached to what used to be Sandton Square, a public
square and shopping centre, proudly renamed Nelson Mandela Square in
March of 2004. A six meter high statue of Mandela was unveiled at the
ceremony to rename the square and attracts both locals and tourists
desperate to have their photograph taken with the former presidents
likeness. Together Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square form one of
the largest retail complexes on the continent with over 400 stores.
