  • Once in a lifetime experience

"Where to begin? There are just not many properties around that have all that this property has. The location is off the charts in terms of view, access to pools, and a WHITE SAND BEACH. We were down there for a family reunion and we all agreed it was the best time ever. The Villa itself is nicely appointed with everything you need or want. The kitchen appears to be recently remodeled with a like new feel. Everything was fresh and clean. The staff goes above and beyond to be helpful and friendly. We enjoyed a catered meal for a dozen people on the beach and it was fabulous. But the highlight of each day was viewing the STUNNING sunsets every evening. I highly recommend this property for a once in a lifetime get away!!"

  • House was Great: Location/View...Neighbor with vicious, barking German Shepards was awful!

"We had a large group and were very comfortable at Casa Miramar. The house is very large and there was plenty of room for all of us to spread out. The view from the balcony is breathtaking and the highlight of the house. It was nice to jump in the pool during the day and soak in the Jacuzzi at night. We walked to the beach and local restaurants on several occasions and the hike back up to the house was good exercise! We rented a 4-wheel drive SUV, highly recommended for any of the Costa Rican unpaved roads! We made good use of it and drove to lots of the nearby beaches. Donald was great and cleaned the pool and balcony area daily. Marta made the beds and swept, but did not empty the trash in any of the bathrooms or kitchen. We also had trouble getting the appropriate number of bath towels for our party and had to share the first few days. We started out with only one spoon and after mentioning this to the rental staff, Marta brought up a handful the next day. The house could use more glasses and coffee cups. Also, we were told toilet tissue and paper towels were included, but we never got paper towels and were limited to 2 rolls of TP per bathroom for our 10-day stay. I would suggest charging $100 more per week and let people have as much TP & PT as they need! The staff at Special Places was very helpful answering emails and arranging excursions prior to our arrival. However, they seemed a bit disorganized after our arrival asking all in our party to come into the office to sign credit card receipts for our excursions despite us submitting a credit card authorization form prior to our arrival. They never mentioned we would have to come into the office and do this and it was a bit irritating since we wanted to start our vacation! The neighbor next door with the dogs was awful. She encouraged the dogs to bark at anyone walking by and the dogs barked at all hours of the day and night disturbing our sleep. The car gate at the bottom of the driveway needed repairing one day and the neighbor left the dogs outside to bark at the repairmen for hours. If you could get rid of the neighbor and her dogs, the house is ideal!"

  • Amazing Spot

"This was by far one of the coolest, best located, and well laid out properties we saw while in Costa Rica. Villa Martita was a fantastic place for a group of people that are looking to have a fun, energetic time but also gives the privacy for couples, parents or kids. I can't say enough good things about Luis, night security, what a stand up guy he was and a pleasure to talk with. Santos and Angelica were fantastic as well. They kept the place spotless even with a bunch of wedding bound individuals looking to have a fun vacation. The animal presence was much more than expected and made the lounge time very interesting. Monkeys, lizards, birds, crabs, the list goes on. The location of the house couldn't be in a better spot, high on a hillside overlooking the private beach (which you can use) and the pacific ocean. The feel of the home was perfect. We really appreciated the more natural look and finish to the house, rather than a pristine condition home. It gives you more of a local feel to it, which was perfect. People in the area were extremely nice and helpful. Coco-loco is a 3 minute walk down the street, which is also a plus. I would highly recommend this property to those looking for a place to let loose a bit, stay safe and be around nature. We will definitely be back in the future."

  • Great Christmas family getaway

"Our family stayed December 2016. 7 adults--2 couples, 3 singles. The 4 bedrooms worked fine. The one that has no privacy and that you have to walk through to get to the bathroom is a little weird. It was also odd that that bathroom didn't have a ceiling (which means not completely private) but there was another bathroom so that was ok. The beach is great. You can wade out a long way and still touch so it felt very safe. We did not sit on the beach. There were ants that sometimes felt like they were biting my feet if I was still but it wasn't that big of a deal. Some of us had irritation from something in the water but was only stung for an hour or less and then went away. There is a shower in the backyard just inside the gate that was very convenient to wash off before going in the house or pool. Many people walked the beach (but it was not crowded at all) and everyone was friendly. There is a dramatic difference between high and low tide. You can't walk as far during high tide. There is an inlet or estuary each way that you can not cross when the water is high. The pool area is great. The cabana and row of bushes provide shade and privacy. The balcony is lovely and shaded all day long with a great view. Jorge, the house manager, lives on the first floor of the house and he took good care of us -- got our groceries, shuttled us to and from the airport, and drove us to and from the Beach House restaurant (he had an emergency at another place he manages so we waited a long time and we could have had better communication regarding that though). We went jet skiing and snorkeling with his son Joshua which was very fun. We rented boogie boards and kayaks from the place down the beach. It would have been nice to have had some beach "toys" available at the house. We walked to Perla's restaurant (10 minutes). I walked the beach to the Beach House one morning (27 minutes). I walked to the restaurant to the right down the beach (12 minutes) but we didn't eat there. There is a convenience store that is a 10 minute walk. The groceries and restaurants were more expensive than we anticipated. The 7 of us had lunch at the restaurant at the airport (no one ordered alcohol) and it cost $175! 6 of us ate at Perla's with 3 drinks and it was $100. We spent around $350 on groceries which did include alcohol. Overall, we were very satisfied. Casa Surfside was reasonably priced for all ALL that we got -- togetherness, beach, pool, and fabulous view."
