  • Beyond Expectations

"There hasn't been a review since 2015 so I though I better write one. Looking at the pictures for Olas Hermosa when searching for a vacation place in CR I was a little sceptical if the view and place would be as nice as described. After settling I can assure you the pictures don't do this justice. The reviews from previous guests are correct - it really is hard to leave the deck (I am writing this while looking out over the palm trees sipping on an Imperial.) The studio is wonderful - everything you need to have a low-cost vacation (eating at "home" is no problem) and we were more than comfortable with three of us, even with the 36C+ heat. The beach in front of us is Dominicalito and is best enjoyed for surfing and boogie boarding at high tide (low tide exposes quite a lot of rocks but makes for nice beach combing or running). We printed out the tide table and organized our day around the tides. Other guests indicated that they could walk the beach from Dominicalito to Dominical but, looking at the rocks to the north I am not so sure how nice that walk would be. It's an easy drive but we were happiest enjoying the calmer waters at Dominicalito. We have been told that this has been one of the driest seasons ever, likely due to El Nino and there is a bit of a water issue right now. Today, if you are looking for a waterfall, Poza Azul is pretty much dry (there is a pool of water but only a trickle coming down the rocks). Instead, drive up toward San Isidro and pay the US$8 p/p to walk into Nauyaca falls - which are exactly as advertised - gorgeous and refreshing. We spotted many Toucans along the walk. Hopefully the rainy season will help replenish the water that is feeding the rivers and water table in this area. As others have reported Dave is wonderful (Deb is away in CO) and has provided us with everything to make our stay wonderful (if something isn't quite right just ask and he will take care of it) I just spent an hour this morning with Dave out on the rock outcrop on Domincalito beach swapping stories and enjoying the views that run all the way up to Manuel Antonio. We have met him almost everyday around 5 pm (beer o'clock) to share stories while cooling off in the pool. For those on their way to Olas Hermosa - you will have a great time (don't pack much more than your swim suits). If I come back to the southern cost in CR I will most definitely book into Olas Hermosa."

  • Eko-Mar

"Our two weeks at Casa Eko Mar were to put it plainly AWESOME!!! It exceeded our expectations. Yves had everything you could possibly need including coffee and a couple of cold beers on arrival. We have travelled to Costa Rica many times and have stayed all over the country..but if you are searching for somewhere to stay that promotes peace and tranquility..this is the place. The bird life is to put it mildly spectacular..I could hardly wait to get up in the morning to watch the rainforest awaken (that being at 5:30 am)...howler monkeys, toucans and birds every colour of the rainbow and of course the resident parakeets in the date palm outside our bedroom window. I literally photographed 14 different species of birds from our outdoor living room...less than 20ft from the couch. The infinity pool is second to none..get in the pool and watch fantastic sunsets every day. The house is as advertised..Yves has hi-speed wifi very reliable and the road up to the house is mostly paved..only 1km off Hwy 34 and about 4km from the beautiful beach of Playa Hermosa. Even though Yves lives on the property you will never see him unless you need him..He is the perfect host..along with his beautiful dogs Bo and Filu who we fell in love with. The house is only 5 min from town and less than 1/2 hrs from at least 5 beautiful beaches..the most people we saw on any of those was approx 15. We will definitely be back for a longer stay."

  • Secluded bungalow in the jungle, across from the beach

"This bungalow was perfect for my family of four (two of which were teen agers). We had plenty of space for everyone to sleep, live and move about with out getting on each other's nerves too much. But it was cozy enough that we had some good family time. There are many fruit trees on the property and much wildlife right outside the door. I loved the sloth and the monkeys, but was also fascinated with the leaf-cutter ants. Ron let us use the surf boards (if you need lessons, have Ron call Choco and he'll get you up and surfing in just a few tries!) and bicycles which was handy. We could ride the bikes to the store, to Peter's for breakfast, and also to the Guava Lodge to watch the soccer game on TV. (Yeah, there's no TV in the bungalow, but who goes to Costa Rica to watch TV?)It was a great place to stay for our family, and with the surf boards and bikes thrown in, it was a fantastic value. If I were going to Playa Matapalo again, I'd stay here without hesitation. (PS- Make sure you go eat at Peter's at least once. It's where the dirt road makes a 90* turn to the left and is just on the right after you get on the paved road, with an open-air dining area and nice landscaping. Fantastic cook - we ate 3 of 4 breakfasts here and dinner, too.)"

  • The Best place!

"The best place we stayed traveling through Costa Rica. We spend a week here last February and loved it. Orange House is Stylish, cosy, and has everything to feel home. The outside Shower is a bonus. Kirsten & Udo are very friendly and discreet; also Security dog Taifun is doing a great job. We could use there pool private and had a great massage at the poolside. And you will find all you need, as a tourist in a distant away. The Pacific, very beautiful beaches, Diving spots, nice restaurants, supermarkets. This place we will definitely recommend to friends."
