"I had never been to Hawaii. I wanted an organic, non- commercial experience. Libby & Peter are the perfect hosts for that. They have been in Hawaii a long time & "know the ropes".
There are a lot of unexpected bonus features about this IMMACUALTE cottage:
It was about 15-20 degrees cooler in the cottage than the rest of the island. For example, I went to Habuna Beach which was 88 degrees of pristine perfection. I was not overly hot. The ocean breeze and amenities were outstanding. When I drove home, the temperature gauge on the rental car went from 88 to 67. It was cool, refreshing and lovely. There is no air conditioner. I was concerned about that but you truly did not need one. The bed was comfy and I slept like a baby. As to the chickens and frogs. Yes, you can hear them but people pay a fortune for those tapes to be lulled to sleep at night. I was enchanted. The rooster jaunted up to me Day One - I said nervously, "Are you & me gonna have an issue?" He cocked his head and swagged away. Lol No aggression. Just checking out his territory. The landscape, which was completely crafted by Peter from scratch, honors nature, increases privacy but what a beautiful experience to watch the animals and be at peace at night. It felt like a remote private retreat but you were 3-5 mins from Walmart and reality. It truly is accessible to everything. Fully stocked kitchen utensils & pots / pans, shampoo / conditioner, hair dryer, beach supplies (cooler, towels, boogie boards, chairs, etc... All things you would have to rent elsewhere.), Coffee Pot & bag of coffee, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, etc...
Peter & Libby will greet you warmly & be there for you 1000% but never, ever disturb you. I asked a lot of questions about living there. They gave real life answers and even offered for me to call them with more. Wonderful people. The true spirit of Ohona.
I took the Gypsy Tour driving on my own and it was wonderful. The Big Island is the best kept secret. You will never be hugged by more strangers. You never see another drive that offers ocean, mountain and agriculture views simultaneously. Imagine wisteria & orange blossoms fighting for territory with the richness of volcanic soil. Everywhere. I always knew God was a talented painter but apparently, Hawaii is where he went Michelangelo on earth.
The best of both worlds, really. I highly recommend it to anyone. I hope to be back soon."
