Our extended family enjoyed our vacation at Beachfield. The house is charming. It was clean and very much as described online. Kevin was great throughout the process, answering questions, providing receipts for the checks, and checking in to make sure we had arrived and had everything we needed. There was one set of towels per occupant and a set of dish towels for the kitchen. It was great to have 5 nice beach towels and 4 beach chairs provided for our use. The outdoor shower was also a great perk and the washer and dryer were much appreciated. With many food allergies in our family, we did most of our cooking and eating at the house -- easy to do with a nice stove and refrigerator, decent counter space, and a great grill out back. The yard was large, as described, and quite peaceful. We enjoyed watching the mother swan and her goslings on the pond across the street. We brought a badminton net and the kids had a great time with it.
The many windows made it easy to keep the house cool as long as there was a breeze ... on days when we had to shut things up because of potential rain, it got sticky very quickly inside, but there were numerous ceiling fans and box fans upstairs to help with that. And summer humidity is certainly to be expected at the beach!
It's less than a 1/4-mile to a very nice part of White Horse Beach. Though we hear it gets crowded on really hot days, it was very quiet the week we were there; it the morning and evening it felt almost like we were the only ones there. The beach changes dramatically with the tide -- low tide is a great time for sand castles, bird watching, Frisbee and flying kites as the softer sand is exposed. High tide has its own beauty and warmer waters for wading. We appreciated that Kevin provided a current chart of the tides and sunrise/sunset times.
There are a number of historical places to enjoy within a short drive, including Plimoth Plantation, which was wonderful. The Fish Market on the town wharf is a great place to get inexpensive and very fresh seafood to cook back at the house. (The restaurant also looked great, though we did not eat there.) The house is about a 20-minute drive to the Cape Cod Canal which made for an easy day trip to places on the Cape. It is also only about 30 minutes from the nearest T-station to go into Boston.
Beachfield is a great beach house with extra charm, and a great balance of proximity to the beach yet at a reasonable distance.
