  • Unbelievably Perfect Up North Family Vacation

"We had high hopes when we booked our stay at this property on Island Lake. Before we booked it, we spent a significant amount of time searching Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan for a cabin that would meet our needs. We were looking for a place that could sleep two families (4 adults, 4 young teenagers) comfortably. Plus, we wanted a place that had plenty of acreage, privacy, good fishing, good swimming and proximity to a town (for groceries, etc.). This cabin seemed like it might be a good fit. We were a little unsure as to whether there would be enough space for two families and whether the lake would really be all that swimmable, but we booked it anyway. I am happy to say that this place met and completely SURPASSED all of our expectations. The cabin is not overly fancy but it is very comfortable, well-kept, big and immaculate. It was just what we were looking for. The owner had it well stocked with everything you could possibly need (from electric frying pans for a pancake breakfast to roasting sticks for marshmallows and hot dogs to binoculars to get a better view of the eagles and loons). There was tons for the kids to do (paddle boarding, canoeing, swimming, fishing, etc.). Plus, it's only a 10-15 min. drive to the town of Wausakee for groceries. Our week at the Island Lake cabin was one of the most relaxing, idyllic, enchanting weeks we've had with our kids in years. We swam every day (for hours on end!). We canoed. We caught fish. We went on mountain bike rides and hikes. We read books. We played board games. We watched the sun rise over the lake. Most of all, we marveled at the wildlife God created all around us. We saw deer frolicking in the lake at dusk. We listened to the haunting calls of the loons in the morning. We watched a bald eagle "fish" 10 yards in front of us - grabbing its prey from the clean lake waters while we floated lazily on tubes. We saw deer, turtles, frogs, fish. We heard coyotes and owls howling and hooting. And we saw bugs flitting here and there in the twilight - from the comfort of the over-sized screened-in gazebo. Essentially, we enjoyed a perfect family vacation. So, all of that said, I can wholeheartedly recommend this property with no caveats. And I can't wait to go back someday!!!"

  • Beautiful home

"Our family of 10 had plenty of room at the Gilas Getaway lake home. The master bedroom was very comfortable with a king-size bed, master bath and walk-in closet. Didn't use the fire place since we had a beautiful, warm summer week. The other three bedrooms in the house all had double top/double lower bunk beds to sleep up to 4 people each room. The garage bedroom with queen bed was a bit claustrophobic with no windows. We rented the pontoon boat and enjoyed going out on the lake for swimming. Not much luck with fishing, only caught one bass. Gilas Lake was great for my favorite water sport -- kayaking! It's a good thing we've been going to the gym, since there are 48 steps down to the dock. We had our evening campfires on the lawn near the walk-out basement. We also enjoyed the hot tub after a swim. The owners were very responsive with emails and one little problem that was fixed promptly. Thank you, Scott and Brenda, for sharing your home."

  • Happy extended family!

"We enjoyed our extended family August 2016 stay in this large lake home. The owner was very quick to respond to questions and issues before our stay, during and even after our stay (someone forgot camera equipment). Kudos for his extraordinarily fast responses. The home is big, beautiful, on a large grassy lot with a few shade trees, a long pier and lots of outdoor seating areas (screened in porch, firepit area and 5 lounge chairs on the pier). The lack of stairs to get to the lake is rare and wonderful for the grandparents in the group! We had kids as young as 9 and grandparents 80+ years old. The lake was sandy-bottomed, crazy shallow the entire length of the pier and a comfy temp. The kitchen was well stocked, the game room had lots of fun stuff (but we were outside 90% of the vacation) and we found plenty of seating for meals and relaxing. The only drawbacks we found were minor and plumbing related! The septic alarm alarmed on our 2nd and 5th day there. We only had 12-14 people in the home so we didn't expect that. The septic cleaning company emptied it within 12 hours both times...speedy service! The other plumbing issue was the lack of pressure. Our showers were decent as long as no one else in the house touched anything with water!!! If you even flushed a toilet, washed hands or certainly did dishes or used another shower, the shower reduced to a trickle. The positives by far outweigh these 2 minors negatives, but we wanted to provide an honest review. The owner provided some suggested places to visit. Daves Falls was terrific: an unusual wonder in WI! The little zoo nearby was fun too! Our kids held baby monkeys! Fun!!"

  • Great stay

"Lovely, spacious property abutting a very calm section of the Peshtigo. Canoeing straight from the property was the highlight of our trip with plenty of wildlife. It was quiet in the middle of the summer season, hope other renters will maintain the quiet for nature enjoyment!"
