  • This place made us feel at home, not just in a house

"This charming and beautiful wood-timbered home had every comfort we needed, plus all the charm of a well-cared-for and well-decorated country home. We enjoyed the four ample bedrooms, the screened porch, the outdoor seat-swing, the comfortable living room, and the spacious kitchen (perfect for multiple people to cook together.) Everything was in working order, even the remote controls on the room A/C units. We used the 2 charcoal grills and found nearly everything we needed in the kitchen except pizza pans, which we bought at the grocery store and left there for someone after us to make your own. Although the house has no water view, we really enjoyed watching the gentle light change throughout the day over the backyard meadow and the active dragonflies in the milkweed and prairie plants. Watching the clear night sky around the campfire was the ultimate vacation experience--now we were really out of the city! In our week stay with our young adult kids and partners, we went to three state parks--including riding two ferries to Rock Island--enjoyed a Northern Sky Theater musical comedy show, a big band jazz concert at Birch Creek Music Center, and an ice cream cone everyday! Door County is really an unusual mix of both cultural and natural delights. Our stay at Whytefishe helped us enjoy both."

  • Wonderful Weekend in the Guest Room!

"We had originally hoped to book the Carriage House for our trip with two couples--college friends now in our 30s-- and a small dog, but when we learned it was booked - we opted for the guest room instead. It worked well for a group of our size with more space and character than your average hotel room. Their location in Fish Creek is terrific for a Door County visitor -a quick and easy drive to the downton area and central so you can go south to Egg Harbor and noth to Sister Bay. Mitch and Mary were wonderful hosts -- they helped with recomendations in the area and invited us to join them for wine on our first evening and breakfast the morning that we left. On our last day, they also treated us to a tour of the main house, where we got to see Mitch's art studio, military history collection and the very unique natural features they have incorporated into their home design. We had a great time and we'll definitely check in if they have availability the next time we make our way up to DC!"

  • Perfect Spot for a family vacation!

"We absolutely loved our time at this cottage! Kris, the owner, made sure everything you could possibly need was readily available and the cottage was perfectly situated on the lake. We couldn't believe how close we were to the waves and falling asleep to the sound of the water was so peaceful. The cottage is cozy and well maintained. Our family enjoyed daily walks on the beach in both directions and swims in the shallow water. Great for little kids! Thank you for sharing your home and my kids are already asking when we can return and if we could move to Door County. Don't miss out on the perfect spot with actual beach property! ."

  • Doc's Hide Away provides exceptional experience in Gills Rock

"My wife and I recently spent some time in Door County and, as always, made plans to stay in our favorite place--Gills Rock. We had walked by Doc's Hide Away many times while we stayed other places in Gills Rock, so this time we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed at all. The cabin is very, very nice. Clean and very nicely appointed, Doc's Hide Away provides a very comfortable home away from home. We loved having the yard and the fire pit, as well as the seating area by the bay. Can't think of anything that wasn't good about Doc's Hide Away, although perhaps leaving it would qualify there. If you're looking for a comfortable and exceptional value in a beautiful setting, try Doc's Hide Away. You'll not be disappointed. And, hey ... a welcome loaf of banana bread provided by Terry Bott was another highlight!"
