Molyvos house description
Pomegranate Cottage is in a unique position in the heart of historic Molyvos yet with shops, bars and tavernas on its doorstep and the beach and lively harbour only 5 minutes' walk away. The house is refurbished to excellent modern standards and very well equipped, yet retains the charm of a traditional Molyvos town house. Watch the sun go down from the fabulous vine-draped terrace (seats 8), which enjoys breathtaking views of the coast, or relax in the shade of the downstairs walled garden with its orange and pomegranate trees (barbeque). Lovely views from all the spacious rooms which have both style and simplicity. Ideally suited to friends or families sharing with a bathroom upstairs and downstairs and plenty of room to chill out.! Quiet and peaceful low season, pretty lively at height of summer.
Guest Comments:'Your house is so lovely. You paid so much attention to detail and results are amazing.'
'We have enjoyed every single minute here, so beautiful, perfection!'
The Island and further notes about the house.: Lesbos is Greece's third largest island with dramatic mountain scenery and a landscape of olive groves and pine forests with the occasional monastery. It is a great place for walking, bird watching, relaxing on the beach and enjoying some of the best food in Greece. There are several thermal baths on the island including one at Eftalou just outside Molivos. The capital Mytilene is an interesting city to explore with museums and art galleries and a beautiful cathedral. The east of the island is characterised by lunar landscape and the fascinating petrified forest while Eressos, Sigri and Plomari are charming towns with pleasant beaches.
Please note: We will leave kitchen basics for our guests to use. We would appreciate it if anything which is used up is replaced. There is also a video recorder in the study/baby room with a selection of videos (mainly for children) which you are welcome to use. Please leave everything in the house for others to enjoy!
Transport.: There is a reasonably good bus service across the island, especially between Molyvos and Mytilini and May to September there is a regular bus service along the coast from Molivos to Petra and Anaxos. There is a taxi rank just outside the town.
There is a large port in Mytilini with daily sailings to Athens (about 9 hours). Domestic flights to Athens take about 45 minutes (Aegean and Olympic Airways).
Direct charter flights from the UK (Gatwick and Manchester) are from May to Mid October on Saturdays (currently operated by Monarch and bookable with Travel Republic). Otherwise you have to fly via Athens (Easyjet, Aegean and British Airways. There are also direct flights from Holland, Norway and Germany
We can book a taxi for you (approx 75 euros) or some charter flights offer bus transfer to Molivos or you can hire a car.
Trips.: There is a very good book on walks in the area (in the house) which are particularly enjoyable in the early and late season.
Bird watching is superb in spring and autumn and Molyvos is about half an hour from the gulf of Kalloni where many interesting birds can be spotted (120 seen by guests!). Mountain bikes can be hired locally and for the less energetic donkey treks (often quite hilarious) can be arranged with local travel agents- usually into the nearby hills and ending up at a taverna. The swimming is good everywhere and you can snorkel around the rocks off Molyvos. Serious beach bums might prefer to idle the day away at the nearby larger sandy beaches of Petra and Anaxos. Boat trips along the coast with swimming and barbeque are wonderfully relaxing.

Quiet cottage, close to beach and harbour
Quiet cottage, close to beach and harbour
In Pomegranate Cottage we ate whilst taking in marvellous views over Molyvos bay and harbour; The house was peaceful but close to restaurants and a whole range of interesting shops. A brief (but energetic) climb took you up to the magnificent castle that dominates the village. The earlier fortification on the sight had, reportedly, been besieged by Hector, the Greek hero, himself. Listing was accurate and the property was spotlessly clean and functional. Delightful welcome pack and a friendly welcome from Jeanette helped us acclimatise quickly. We would recommend the cottage unreservedly; we loved the buzz in the village, the landscapes in little coves along the coast and the birdwatching (and fish restaurant) around the island's central lagoon.

Lovely cottage,charming village,relaxing holiday!
Lovely cottage,charming village,relaxing holiday!
My first glimpse of Greece was during my visit to Pomegranate Cottage in Molyvos. And I have to say, it set a very high standard for the rest of the country which I am still to discover! My holiday was extremely relaxing, with mornings spent having breakfast on the vine covered balcony before heading down to the pebbled beach just a stones throw (excuse the pun) from the cottage. After a good read of a book from the cottages well stocked shelf and an equally good swim in the crystal clear sea, lunch would be spent at one of the tavernas on the beach front. Or, after picking up a few essentials for a Greek feast (olives, REAL Feta, fresh dill) from one of the quaint mini-markets dotted around the town, back on the balcony, followed by a siesta in one of its cool, cleanly decorated rooms. In the evenings, the balcony can be put to good use for a few drinks, lit by some candles and the evening sky, before dinner on the harbour front. Molyvos has a great selection of restaurants to choose from, a few of my favourites being Le Grande Bleu and The Octopus where the conversation with the waiters flows just as easily as the ouzo which follows an always delicious meal. There are also several bars around town which are open late. The Manta Bar has good live music and a chilled out vibe whilst Molly's makes a great alternative to the balcony for pre-dinner drinks or, equally, as a stop-off for a night cap and some good conversation after a meal. Be sure to try the Mojitos which come crammed with mint and lime and a bowl of nibbles on the side. Inbetween eating, drinking and sunning, there is also plenty of time to enjoy the rest of Molyvos' charms. An early morning run (or walk on the lazier days!) takes you past fig trees and olive groves and a few other shingle beaches not far from the town. And if you're up early enough, you may be lucky enough to spot the fishmonger driving through town selling fresh seafood to the locals. If you do happen to buy some, the well equipped kitchen makes the perfect space to try your hand at some Greek cuisine. The open-air cinema also makes a great retreat on warm evenings. It screens different and suprisingly recent releases each night, whilst the tuck shop offers drinks and snacks. When it comes to the end of your holiday, souvenir shopping won't be hard either. Visit the womens cooperative for traditional Greek delicacies or the olive carving workshop in Eftalou, for trinkets made from olive wood on the island.

Just returned from our first visit to Greece and Lesvos and it certainly lived up to all our expectations and more. Pomegranate Cottage and Molyvos are the ideal destination if you want to find a unique and peaceful place to relax. the cottage was well equipeed for all our needs and Tom and Mike were very helpful. The view from the terrace looking out at the blue sea, sky and the picturesque harbour was just beautiful. the Molyvos beach is a bit stony but we loved swimming there before breakfast in in the crystal clear water. Or you can take the bus to Petra and relax on the sandy beach (you must try lunch at the Women's Co-operative Restaurant there). Molyvos has some very steep inclines and rough cobbles but we cannot wait to go back.

I am just writing to let you how much we enjoyed our stay at Pomegranate House. We have just gotten home from the rest of our holiday, but the high light was the week we spent at Molyvos. Tom was very helpful and friendly. The house was just perfect. Wonderfully relaxing and a joy to be in. The terrace is where we spent the most time, all of us being avid readers, it was hard to keep ours eyes in the book and not at the view, Dag had the best idea with listening books so he could enjoy the view and 'read'. We met the neighbours and Freda the dog. Walked up to the castle every day and swam regularly in the crystal clear waters below. The pebble beaches are a little rough on the feet. We are kind of used to soft yellow sand! We did a donkey ride to the beach in the evening, which was great and enjoyed the very laid back BBQ provided. There did seem to be buses from the airport, though we had a car. Thank you for allowing us stay in your wonderful home.

Pomegranate Cottage was even better than the description. The views from the terrace are breathtaking - a lovely place to have breakfast. The house was very well appointed and comfortable. The sitting room was an added bonus on the odd day when the weather was cool and showery. We even learnt to play backgammon with the set provided! Molivos is a charming village with its plentiful restaurants, cobbled lanes and castle to explore. We didn't venture very far but would recommend Petra and the climb up the rock to the church. Tom, who looks after the house, was extremely helpful and informative. If you're looking for a relaxing break in a pretty, friendly village go to Pomegranate Cottage.

So love staying at Pomegranate cottage have been back there many times now. I adore the fantastic views from the terrace across the bay whilst chilling out over a leisurely breakfast and/or a cool wine enjoying the sun going down early evening. The cottage has all the comforts you could want for and even the option to barbecue within the walled garden! Plenty of choice of good bars and restaurants to enjoy some excellent food in Molivos, even to keep my teenage son very happy! Molivos is so unspoiled its just pure relaxation, if you need tempting away from the beach, would definitely recommend the donkey trek to the hillside taverna and there is plenty of trips available to other parts of Lesbos, to soak up the culture and history, if you need to explore further or even take a boat trip and or enjoy some watersports. Molivos is dominated by the castle on the top and the cottage nestles beautifully within the atmosphere of this special place. Booking was easy and the property beautifully cared for, arrangements for travel to and from the airport and access all ran smoothly, with plenty of supporting information available to help you enjoy your stay. I highly recommend a stay here and can't wait till my next return!
