The town is known for being a special place. Off of the beaten track, you'll get the feeling to slow down minutes after coming into town. CEDAR KEY was voted 'RURAL COMMUNITY OF THE YEAR' by the State Of Florida in February, 2010. The Cypress House, Your Home Away From Home is located on a typically quiet street, in this wonderful town. Within walking distance to many attractions,THE CYPRESS HOUSE allows you the opportunity to do as much or little as you want.
Cedar Key is an outstanding place to enjoy nature, the people, the delicious food, art shops, gift shops, and my husband's favorite, fishing!
Affordable Charter boats are available for fishing, or to take you to the neighboring islands for shelling swimming,or a romantic picnic. You can kayak, bike, horse & buggy ride, or stroll around town, or just read a book while swinging in the front porch hammock!
Without a single traffic light in town, Cedar Key welcomes you to stroll around and simply relax. There is a library, hardware store, grocery store, convenience store, post office, banks, and other store fronts within a few blocks from the house.
Star gazers meet at certain times at the museum. Picnic at the park with its man made beach... Outside Magazine listed it in '20 Dream Towns' Aug. 2004. 'The New Best Places To Live & Play', we agree! Feel free to inquire. I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have!
Thank You! I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

Our stay at the Cypress House on 1st Street in Cedar Key was excellent. We found the house to be clean, comfortable, near to many Cedar Key attractions, and accommadating. It was great to have room when our grandons from Gainesville(with their parents) came to visit and stay with us on weekends. Our grandson from Indiana(with parents of course) also stopped over on their way to Orlando. It was great to have them all stay at the house for a long weekend.A very nice play area maintained by the city. Close enough to walk to when the kids wanted to play. A great family get-together that provided many great memories. It was also nice to meet the owners, Maureen and Mike, who travelled to Cedar Key while we were there. They are a great couple. It was nice to have WiFi installed while we were there. Its a great plus for those with laptops and smartphones. Thanks again Maureen and Mike. While there we found Tony's clam chowder to be fantastic as advertised. The Island Hotel bar has great food at reasonable prices. Other good eateries are Steamers, the Island Room at Cedar Cove, and you can't beat Eat at Pats for a great lunch. Kona Joe's has great coffee and good food as well. There is so much to do in this part of Florida that we couldn't do it all, and we stayed a month. Don't miss Southern Cross Sea Farm where clams are farmed. They have a tour almost everyday at 1 PM. Many good reasons to come back again in the future. I would recommend this property to anyone staying in Cedar Key.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your generous and informative review of The Cypress House and Cedar Key. Always a great pleasure to read of our Guests enjoyable stay. We sincerely want you to feel this is your "home away from home". It was an extra gift in meeting you and your family! God Bless, Maureen

We had such fun and the house was great - loved the open concept so that when friends visited we could cook and talk at the same time. The location was probably the best thing about the house - right in the middle of things and walking distance to everything. Wish we had connected with John so that we could have turned the fireplace on but that was because it was a holiday when we arrived and we were always out kayaking and walking when he came over. The house has everything, was clean and comfortable - oh - just one thing - we work all the time so we needed wifi but we went to a cafe and got it - just not in the middle of the night. We want to do it again next Thanksgiving!! And we missed our dogs!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Fantastic! So glad you had a good time and want to come back! Your care of the house is also greatly appreciated, Thank You! Looking forward to your return! Sorry you missed your dogs, I'm sure you had a great reunion when you returned home. From my dogs reaction I don't think they have a sense of time like we do. His greeting is just as enthusiastic if I go away or to the mailbox!

Our stay at The Cypress House was one much anticipated and not disappointing. Cypress House is a roomy, well appointed house, with all the comforts of home and then some(the front porch views). I finished two books while the front porch provided a great cozy place to read and watch the sunsets with a glass of wine. The only addition we would make would be a couple of ceiling fans to the porch. Dining in the area is great and the locals don't mind lending a hand and a little advice at the same time. Thanks for sharing your home with us - if only for a little while.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for kind review ! Yes, the front porch is one of my favorite places to be also, very relaxing and the porch hammock sets the tone for a relaxing vacation! Great job reading two books, I usually fall asleep. God Bless! Maureen

We went on the weekend of the Seafood Festival (mostly because my husband is a lighthouse freak and that is one of only two weekends that the lighthouse is open to the public) and had a wonderful time. The house is comfortable enough for 6 people, clean and a great value. I especially loved the hammock on the porch! We watched the Seafood Festival parade from the front porch, which was a really fun, home town parade. We wouldn't have even known about it except for the caretakers of the house, John and his wife, coming over to welcome us and let us know the "not to miss" things in town. They were awesome! The boat to Seahorse Key (Tidewater Tours) was fun and we were able to get lots of great pictures of the lighthouse, as well as of the dolphins as they chased us. I loved that the house was close enough to town to walk everywhere, but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. Wonderful place to visit! Thanks Maureen!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.
Owner response: The Seafood Festival is a very entertaining time in Cedar Key! So glad you were able to experience the parade, good food, and the light house open to visitors! You described The Cypress House exactly how I feel! It is nice to go about and do things; but also such a comfort to come back to The Cypress House and relax in the hammock! I always hope my guests feel it is their "Home away from Home in Cedar key"! Thank You for Coming & God Bless! Maureen

We had a wonderful family reunion in old Cedar Key, the Cypress House was very convenient! My brother and nephew went fishing on Saturday morning, and came home with redfish and trout, which the chef at the Island Hotel fixed for us that night. A great time!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Now red fish is something I have to try yet.It sounds delicious fixed by the Island Hotel! I'm glad you found the Cypress House convenient. When we get there we can walk everywhere, which is a big bonus for us too. Thanks for coming and I am glad your reunion went well! God Bless, Maureen

We recently made our first visit to Cedar Key and the Cypress house the week we took my only child to college at UF for the first time. What a great week we had! We had a few days to spend with our daughter before we "lost" her to college. The after a couple of days of traveling back and forth to Gainesville to settle her in, my husband and I had a couple of days to "recover and face the loss". It was a beautful place to be for all reasons. The house was amazing and so homey and comfortable. We can't wait to go back.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: So glad you were able to have some rest, relaxation, and adjustment to the new changes in your life. Looking forward to your return to Cedar Key and The Cypress House! We wish your daughter much success in her pursuits at the University of Florida, and a gentle adjustment period for you and your husband!

About the owner: Welcome to 'THE CYPRESS HOUSE ON 1ST STREET',Cedar Key! This photo shows me standing at a Dock Street Restaurant with Spike a egret who learned, when injured, the generosity of people. Cedar Key is a great place to watch the sunrise & sunset. My smile is reflecting the good humor and good will, two common traits of the kind people in Cedar Key. We hope you enjoy the fishing, reading, relaxing, biking, kayaking, restaurants, shopping, boating, hammock swinging, star gazing or whatever you like during your visit in Cedar Key! The normally calm waters of the Gulf Of Mexico and variety of fish, hold a keen interest for my fisherman, husband. The Arts and Atmosphere of this quaint town lured me to Cedar Key. The location is a definite plus! Once we park the car, we can walk everywhere we want, the docks, restaurants, art galleries etc. Cedar Keys unique location affords spectacular views of both sunrise and sunset! The upper bedroom allows the sunrise's golden glow view. One of the most photographed sites, 'The Honey Moon Cottage', is located in the Gulf across from our house. Presently the pelican and other birds use it for their roost. All good for excellant photography! More pictures can be seen on our website. So whole heartedly we welcome you and hope you have a wonderful vacation! God Bless! Maureen
