The town is known for being a special place. Off of the beaten track, you'll get the feeling to slow down minutes after coming into town. CEDAR KEY was voted "RURAL COMMUNITY OF THE YEAR" by the State Of Florida in February, 2010. The Cypress House, Your Home Away From Home is located on a typically quiet street, in this wonderful town. Within walking distance to many attractions,THE CYPRESS HOUSE allows you the opportunity to do as much or little as you want.
Cedar Key is an outstanding place to enjoy nature, the people, the delicious food, art shops, gift shops, and my husband's favorite, fishing!
Affordable Charter boats are available for fishing, or to take you to the neighboring islands for shelling swimming,or a romantic picnic. You can kayak, bike, horse & buggy ride, or stroll around town, or just read a book while swinging in the front porch hammock!
Without a single traffic light in town, Cedar Key welcomes you to stroll around and simply relax. There is a library, hardware store, grocery store, convenience store, post office, banks, and other store fronts within a few blocks from the house.
Star gazers meet at certain times at the museum. Picnic at the park with its man made beach... Outside Magazine listed it in "20 Dream Towns" Aug. 2004. "The New Best Places To Live & Play", we agree! Feel free to inquire. I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have!
Thank You! I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

"The Cypress House" Clean,Comfortable,Close to Town! Reviews!
Year Purchased: 2004
Why the Owner Chose Cedar Key
Cedar Key a great place to vacation!
The relaxed atmosphere, friendly people, fishing, art & gift shops are our primary reasons for coming to Cedar Key.
The Unique Benefits at this House
If it's lounging on the front porch hammock , kyaking, stargazing, fishing, biking, strolling to the library or sitting at a bench at the park or beach, I can be as active or inactive as I like. Each day is wonderful and the whole atmosphere is one of good will. This is a unique place and I'm grateful we found out about Cedar Key and are blessed to go there!
After the last bridge coming into Cedar Key on your right on WHIDDON AVE. is a Bait Shop. Directly across the street on State Road 24 is the closest GAS STATION to Cedar Key.
Within a short walk, 2 1/2 blocks you are on the corner going into "Town". Tony's Restaurant with it's award winning seadood chowder is at the corner. Artist shops, the Library with Computer Use, two banks and other restaurants and gifts shops are located in this area.
Within a pleasant walk is the city man made beach & city park. One of the great areas to view the sunrise! The beach is man made with a generous area to sun bath and roped off swimming area. Swimming is best at high tide. The kids and beach lovers will find this a beautiful place to spend the afternoon. There are pic nic benches, swings, sliding boards as well as a climbing challenge for the children.
"A" Street gives you Access to The Gulf of Mexico with your Boat via the Public Boat Ramp. There is a charge for parking your truck and trailer, access to the ramp is free. The Cypress house has room for a small boat trailer and truck a few minutes from here.
Gulf Blvd & Whiddon Ave Intersect. Continue straight to the local Airport
Owner's Map of Cedar Key
Welcome to "THE CYPRESS HOUSE ON 1ST STREET",Cedar Key! This photo shows me standing at a Dock Street Restaurant with Spike a egret who learned, when injured, the generosity of people. Cedar Key is a great place to watch the sunrise & sunset. My smile is reflecting the good humor and good will, two common traits of the kind people in Cedar Key. We hope you enjoy the fishing, reading, relaxing, biking, kayaking, restaurants, shopping, boating, hammock swinging, star gazing or whatever you like during your visit in Cedar Key!
The normally calm waters of the Gulf Of Mexico and variety of fish, hold a keen interest for my fisherman, husband. The Arts and Atmosphere of this quaint town lured me to Cedar Key. The location is a definite plus! Once we park the car, we can walk everywhere we want, the docks, restaurants, art galleries etc.
Cedar Keys unique location affords spectacular views of both sunrise and sunset! The upper bedroom allows the sunrise's golden glow view. One of the most photographed sites, "The Honey Moon Cottage", is located in the Gulf across from our house. Presently the pelican and other birds use it for their roost. All good for excellant photography! More pictures can be seen on our website. So whole heartedly we welcome you and hope you have a wonderful vacation!
God Bless!

My wife and I started off the new year at the Cypress House. Couldn't have been a better place to relax and recharge. The Cypress House makes you feel right at home. Maureen and Michael's hospitality makes you want to stay. Cedar Key has a magical pull - we're looking forward to our next trip.

Can't think of a better way to start the New Year! I hope we will get to visit with you again some time in the future. It was a blessing to have met you both! God Bless, Maureen

We went on the weekend of the Seafood Festival (mostly because my husband is a lighthouse freak and that is one of only two weekends that the lighthouse is open to the public) and had a wonderful time. The house is comfortable enough for 6 people, clean and a great value. I especially loved the hammock on the porch! We watched the Seafood Festival parade from the front porch, which was a really fun, home town parade. We wouldn't have even known about it except for the caretakers of the house, John and his wife, coming over to welcome us and let us know the "not to miss" things in town. They were awesome! The boat to Seahorse Key (Tidewater Tours) was fun and we were able to get lots of great pictures of the lighthouse, as well as of the dolphins as they chased us. I loved that the house was close enough to town to walk everywhere, but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. Wonderful place to visit! Thanks Maureen!
Owner response:The Seafood Festival is a very entertaining time in Cedar Key! So glad you were able to experience the parade, good food, and the light house open to visitors! You described The Cypress House exactly how I feel! It is nice to go about and do things; but also such a comfort to come back to The Cypress House and relax in the hammock! I always hope my guests feel it is their "Home away from Home in Cedar key"! Thank You for Coming & God Bless! Maureen

We had a wonderful family reunion in old Cedar Key, the Cypress House was very convenient! My brother and nephew went fishing on Saturday morning, and came home with redfish and trout, which the chef at the Island Hotel fixed for us that night. A great time!
Owner response:Now red fish is something I have to try yet.It sounds delicious fixed by the Island Hotel! I'm glad you found the Cypress House convenient. When we get there we can walk everywhere, which is a big bonus for us too. Thanks for coming and I am glad your reunion went well! God Bless, Maureen

We recently made our first visit to Cedar Key and the Cypress house the week we took my only child to college at UF for the first time. What a great week we had! We had a few days to spend with our daughter before we "lost" her to college. The after a couple of days of traveling back and forth to Gainesville to settle her in, my husband and I had a couple of days to "recover and face the loss". It was a beautful place to be for all reasons. The house was amazing and so homey and comfortable. We can't wait to go back.
Owner response: So glad you were able to have some rest, relaxation, and adjustment to the new changes in your life. Looking forward to your return to Cedar Key and The Cypress House! We wish your daughter much success in her pursuits at the University of Florida, and a gentle adjustment period for you and your husband!

My husband and I ended up in Cedar Key over 20 years ago one night for dinner. We were actually staying in Gainesville. We had talked about coming back to Cedar Key for an actual visit for a long time. We finally made it. This time it was with our 16 year old son. My husband is retired now, and my son is in school, but I still work and really needed some time to relax. Coming to Cedar Key was one of our better ideas. Even with the relaxing atmosphere my 16 year old enjoyed himself as well. The house was very nice and in a very good location and close to everything. Everything was clean and neat. Even though it was August and very hot we still enjoyed coffee on the front porch in the early mornings and my son enjoyed the hammock. Some outdoor ceiling fans on the porch would have been ideal. We did some fishing, shopping, sightseeing, eating and relaxing. I was really glad we came back for an actual visit this time. Hopefully it won't take 20 years to get back!
Owner response:Thank you for such a nice review! Also I am glad you finally were able to spend more time in Cedar Key! The Cypress House greets you with a "welcome home" feeling, after a day of activities. The large wrap around porch also is a great place to relax. Hammock's and Cedar Key go together. God Bless, Maureen

This was our third trip back to Cedar Key for my wife and I. This time we took our 4 children and first time at the Cypress House. We all had a great time. The kids rode thier bikes all around and we walked to dock street for some good food and shopping, It was nice to come back to this house to sit on the front porch or relax in the hammock. We did not want to leave and should have rented it for the whole week. This house was our home for a short time and it was awesome. We will be back !
Owner response:Reading of your family's enjoyment of "The Cypress House" is prayers answered! I couldn't be happier knowing all of you had a good time and enjoyed The Cypress House. We will be glad to have you back! Your request months in advance assured the dates you needed. I'm glad you did because this relatively new listing is becoming a favorite. Our goal is to make "The Cypress House" your "Home Away From Home In Cedar Key!". God Bless, Maureen

My family and I had a great Memorial Day Weekend at Cypress House. We found the house to be very clean and well maintained and comfortable for our family and offered everything we needed. We really enjoyed the large wrap around porch with the hammock and adirondack chairs. Everything was in walking distance ... the boat docks, beach, restaurants, fishing, a small market, antique shops and boutiques. Just what you need for a quiet and relaxing get away. Maureen was very accommodating and anxious that we enjoy our stay. We hope to return.
Owner response:Thank you for your kind review! One of the great benefits of vacation rentals is meeting wonderful people., like you. This is our second summer and are going into our third winter. We have some return families, who have "The Cypress House On 1st Street", their ,"Home Away From Home". I was glad to read you are interested in returning also, and for all the fun reasons you listed are mine also! God Bless, Maureen

Our week at the Cypress House was wonderful. The weather was perfect and each day we had cool breezes that led to long stays on the porch enjoying the views, relaxing, reading and lying in the hammock. Matter of fact when it came time for our 9 month old grandson's nap we placed him in the hammock with us and off to sleep he went. I spent my summers with my grandmother in Cedar Key until my latter teenage years. Our stay allowed me to reconnect with my love for the island and brought back many fond memories. It also allowed me to share that love and create new memories with our loved ones. Matter of fact it was suggested we make this an annual event. The house and location couldn't have been any better. We'll definitely be back and appreciate so much Maureen's help in making our stay possible and do enjoyable.
Owner response:It's always a great pleasure to read of our guests enjoyable stay at The Cypress House! I'm certainly glad your's went so well! Cedar Key certainly lends to that relaxed atmosphere we all need time to time. The Cypress House also continues this feeling whether in the house or resting on the front porch hammock. The image of your grandson sleeping is very precious! Thanks for sharing this with us! God Bless, Maureen
