PRIVATE BEACHFRONT LOCATION. This 2 bedroom, 2 bath, cozy home is the perfect romantic getaway, or gathering place with family and or friends. There are 2 twin beds, 1 king bed, and a queen size day bed in the living room. We have a large shaded yard, and then you just step down onto the sand. The angled location of where our house sits offers some spectacular sun sets, and if you are adventurous, just walk along the beach and in about 15 minutes time, the houses will end, and you will truly feel like you are on your own private island.
Waialua was once a sugar mill town. The whole area except along the beach was nothing but Sugar cane fields. Many of the houses along Crozier Drive where our house sits were built for the owners and managers of the plantation. The mill had been in Operation from 1889 to 1996. The beach area that extends down to Kaena Point is called Mokuleia. Though our house is only about a 10 minute drive from Haleiwa, and about a 40 minute drive from Waikiki, it is still considered “country” and “rural”, being the least populated area on Oahu, but the area has recently been made famous by the current TV series Lost.
Our house is in a very private area of Mokuleia and though there are a row of houses along the beach, seldom do we have any neighbors visiting at the same time. Our yard and house is kept cool by the tropical breeze and by a canopy of kamani nut trees and swaying coconut trees. In front of our house lies a beautiful and healthy shallow reef that extends roughly 200 yards out, making the water in front of our house very calm and with less people around, the area has been a favorite cursing area for honu, Hawaii Green Sea Turtles. You see them feeding on the reef, and many times taking a rest on the beach. Occasionally we even get Hawaiian Monk Seals taking naps on the beach. Both of these are protected Species and should NEVER be touched. Distance also must be kept if a seal happens to be taking a nap on the beach.

I am actually a friend of the family... Known her son for 28 years. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, we spent many a weekend at their family beach house (now known as hale de honu). Many of my best memories come from staying at this beach house. There is nothing more serene and beautiful. Those were my high school and college days. What a treat to be able to bring my family back as an adult. My kids are 7 & 9 now and I KNOW they will just LOVE it! My friend Mike (whose Mother owns the beach house) is a stickler for cleanliness and respect for the property. It wasn't a rental when we stayed there, but I remember Mike gathering up the gang to clean it from top to bottom before we left everytime we stayed there. And, Mike cleaning gutters, doing yardwork, and everyone chipping in to make sure we'd be invited again. I grew up in Hawaii, lived there until I was 18, visit at least once a year (usually twice) and I can say with all certainty, this is absolutely my favorite place to stay. There's just nothing else like it. Its not just a place to stay, but one of the greatest experiences you will enjoy in life. Aloha!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Thank you for the use of your house. Great weather all week!. Saw whales almost daily out on the horizon, watched the turtles. They were eating right at the shore line and one even came out to rest on the sand one day. We had a fantastic dinner at Haleiwa Joe's, shaved ice at Matsumoto's almost daily and did a trip through all the shops in town. From The Guest Book We want to express out thanks for sharing your wonderful beach house. We enjoyed it's comfort, amazing view and wonderful history and objects from the Pacific Islands, My children were especially thrilled with the honu. They were fun to swim with and view snoozing on the shore. We will miss this special place, but hopefully will return next year. Thanks again for the wondrful stay! Coming here is like visiting family! The house is cozy and has everything... Literally EVERYTHING we needed and then some! Here's a tip.. Before you go to the grocery store and buy more soy sauce, spices or charcoal.. look around the house cause its all there already! If you are looking for a great north shore experience then this is it! Surf and snorkel right out the back door. Turtles, right out the back door. Relaxation, right out the back door. BBQ, right out the back door.. Guess where I was most of the time... that's correct, right out the back door! If this home has the dates you are looking for I HIGHLY suggest you book them before I do! BTW, I left a full bottle of Bacardi in the cupboard, cheers! Aloha! We are still basking in the wonderful memories of our ten-days at Hale Honu! This charming beachfront house in a very quiet residential neighborhood provided our family with a perfect setting for a reunion we shall never forget. We were rocked to sleep by the sound of the waves at night, greeted by honu on the beach and in the water every morning, entertained by breaching whales in the afternoon, warmed by the tropical sun and cooled by the trade winds: a perfect equilibrium. The cottage is utterly charming and the neighborhood is wonderful and friendly. We felt so at home. The owner had thought of absolutely everything to make us comfortable. I’ve never seen such a well-stocked house. We really appreciated the fantastic manager who did everything to welcome us and insure a perfect vacation. The beach in front of the house is our very favorite in all the islands. We loved the quiet, snorkeling waters created by the reef and enjoy watching the surfers and the gorgeous waves farther out. All of this, and almost not a soul around. Paradise!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

About the owner: My parents bought this house years ago. My family and I have many fond memories at the house. All of my children live on the Mainland, but they could never get enough of the ocean when they were younger and as adults when they come to visit with my grandchildren, they are all just amazed and have so much fun playing in the sand, and snorkeling out front, and watching the turtles swim around.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
In front of the house along the water is some sandstone with limu (seaweed) that the honu (turtles) like to eat. Turtles are often seen resting on the beach after filling their bellies up with limu. Also, you will not see more beautiful sunsets anywhere in the world. Our house sits at the perfect angle, and has some of the most spectacular sunsets you will ever see. If you look close enough you might even see the green flash.
