In the heart of beautiful San Miguel awaits a luxury retreat that's perfect for entertaining friends and family, yet is comfortable and warm enough for just for one couple. With beautiful interiors, high ceilings, and loads of light in all the rooms, this little castle is one of the most spectacular places you could rent in one of the most spectacular towns in, well, the world! Spanish Colonial architectural features include stone walls, loggias with archways, boveda and wood beamed ceilings, and a gorgeous stone aqueduct spilling water melodiously into the pool. Green grass, a rarity in San Miguel, and lush gardens at the back of the property frame the heated pool and the jacuzzi.

The charming interior boasts three large bedrooms--two with king beds and one with twins--as well as a den, a living room, a baronial dining room, and a fantastic kitchen. Other highlights include modern, marble baths (one for each bedroom); peaceful, neutral interiors; a gorgeous heated pool, Jacuzzi and stone aqueduct, and pressurized, purified water. Drink from every tap! The views from the roof are spectacular, but even more lovely is the view inside your own yard. There are multiple outdoor seating areas.

If you've ever wanted to take a month off, learn Spanish, experience another culture, or just pamper yourself, this is your chance. No cooking, no cleaning, no laundry, no housework, no gardening--let our helpful staff do it for you. The pool is the perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing and walking the atmospheric streets. Or sit on the covered terrace, dine under the stars, or have a cocktail overlooking the Parroquoia from the second-story patio with its olive trees and herb garden. One of the main benefits of this house is the tranquility and quiet, a real treat when living in Centro.

We are located in the upscale La Aldea neighborhood--a quiet community of Mexican second-home owners and year-round expats. Located off Ancha San Antonio, we are a 10-minute easy walk to the Jardin, and even less to the Instituto Allende, the new world-class Rosewood Resort, and beautiful Parque Juarez.

(There is also a detached one-bedroom casita which may be rented in addition to the main house for a fee. It is never rented separately from the main house.)

This is be the perfect spot for your next family vacation. We welcome kids! Email us now to reserve or check our photo gallery for a more complete description at the link below.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2009

We are a family of 5: Sam and Ann and their three wonderful boys, all in primary school. We live here full time but have a second home where we stay when guests stay in our Little Castle. We are happy to share it with others as it is such a source of comfort and joy to us.

Why the Owner Chose Centro

We fell in love with San Miguel the first time we arrived here. Like everyone! Then we fell in love with this house about four weeks after moving here. We kept going back to look, had a bottle of wine one night on the back terrace by ourselves, thought about it, and then made an offer, realizing we would never find a house we so instantly loved like this one. San Miguel is such a magical place and when we are home here, the beauty of the town and the beauty of our experiences here are only magnified by the sweet sanctuary of this house.

The Unique Benefits of this House

The sound of the mourning doves at dawn...the donkeys who graze in our corner park when they're finished selling their wood...the police men who wash their cars in the morning on our street...the proximity to centro, but without the traffic and the noise...the quiet of our little neighborhood and most importantly the fantastic convenience to everything we love to do in San Miguel: walk, go out to eat, visit the local tiendas for produce, meat, and fruit, shop along Ancha San Antonio, enjoy tapas and live music at Cafe Rama, Ladies Night at the Hotel Matilda, and occasionally, go to the Luna Bar at the Rosewood for the best view in town. All are an easy, easy stroll from our house!

Dear Ann & Family: Thank you so much for allowing us to lease your beautiful home in San Miguel. As the site of the small civil wedding (prior to the one at Mexiquito Church & orphanage), it will bring lasting memories for all the joy and love shared that day. Many blessings to you and yours.

Great for families

We spent a week at this lovely home. From the moment you walk in, you feel relaxed and excited! The pool was amazing for the kids and made a non-beach vacation all the more fun for them. We walked easily to town multiple times a day, had incredible food, took Spanish, cooking, and painting classes....it was a wonderful family time in every way. Oh and they have every episode of The Waltons, which was quite a treat back in time.....!!

Owner response:And I didn't even know we had the Waltons! Thank you for taking such good care of our home and for enjoying yourselves while you were here. And thank you for the books you left my kids! Ann

Beautiful, serene jewel close to everything!

We have stayed in this house numerous times and always enjoy ourselves immensely. The house is extremely comfortable and well-appointed. We spent countless hours on the patio relaxing, enjoying happy hour, or taking a dip in the pool. It is an easy short walk to the jardin, yet it is totally peaceful once you've passed through the beautiful antique doors and are within the massive stone walls. There are countless restaurants, shops and galleries all within walking distance, but when we are here, we never want to leave the house!

Owner response:You are always welcome here! Your kids are delightful and we're happy they enjoy the pool and the yard! Best wishes, Ann

Comfortable and warm elegance

What a beautiful home! Very grand but at the same time easy, elegant and comfortable. I stayed for a week with a group of plein air painters and the house exceeded our expectations - the photos do not do it justice! The furnishings are comfortable, the art beautiful and grounds so inspiring that we stayed home one afternoon to paint at "our house." It is close to everything yet tucked away from the noisy streets - a perfect place. I have been to SMA several times, and will certainly plan to stay at this house again on my next trip!

Owner response:We would love to host you and your friends again! Thank you so much, Ann

Amazing experience

I traveled to San Miguel with my 10 yr. old son wanting to expose him to a new culture and give him a chance to practice his Spanish. The trip was amazing for both of us! This home offered luxury, beauty, and tranquility, it's central location made exploring San Miguel so easy. Sight seeing required nothing more than a good pair of tennis shoes! No need for a car. The people of San Miguel were wonderful and so appreciative of my sons efforts to speak the language. On some nights we could go to the roof top and watch the various fireworks displays they hold for celebrations that happen in San Miguel. My son loved the pool (as did I) on the days we wanted to just relax and enjoy the house. I could not have asked for a better experience for my son or myself! We will be back!

Very relaxing and enjoyable

My family and I spent a week here and had a great time. I finally got to relax from my busy schedule. I really enjoyed being able to walk to everything. A lot of fun shopping and history to enjoy in and around town. Whether we cooked at the house or found a resturant, the local food was great. The house itself was ideal. We felt like we had our own house in San Miguel. Very clean and relaxing.

The Best of San Miguel

Guest: Ex-Pat Wannabe (Los Angeles, CA)
Date of Stay: 09/11/10 Review Submitted: 10/14/10

A great place to try out that ex-pat lifestyle! San Miguel is amazing and this house is as well. The pictures do not do it complete justice, as the decor is pretty stylish, with lots of local art. Once you enter, through a huge Spanish door onto a large stone loggia overlooking the pool and yard, you are in your own compound. An outdoor fireplace is great for long talks into the night. The roof top decks (everyone has them in San Miguel) are fantastic for observing the play of light over the hilltop town. No need for a car - everything in San Miguel is walking distance. I have stayed in both the main house and the casita. The main house has an amazing master bathroom - with a view of the Parrochia from the shower. The casita has more privacy.
