Wonderful Ocenafront Kauai Condo
Wonderful Ocenafront Kauai Condo
The 3th floor condo in the Pono Kai condo complex directly overlooked the ocean and the paved walk/bike path. This complex is great for families as the pool was warm and there were no rules preventing children from using the Jacuzzi as we have seen at other condo complexes. The unit has a decent sized master bedroom and in addition the loft is very large with a queen and twin beds, a couch and chairs so we actually used the loft as our bedroom and left the master bedroom for our daughter. There is plenty of room for 5 guests with the only limiting factor being the single bathroom. The Lanai was large and provided a great place to read, eat, and just relax while watching the ocean and people watch as they rode by on their bikes. We had a great time at this condo complex and the front staff were also very nice and helpful.

family trip to Kuaui
This property was located in a perfect spot between activities on the north and south ends of the island. The beach front location was excellent. We used the 5 mile walking path which is right in front of the condo. Favorite local eateries were The Buttery for the best desserts imaginable and Kountry Kitchen for breakfast. Don't miss the coconut syrup. This property was an excellent choice for our family.

Great Location and Very Spacious
Great Location and Very Spacious
The condo unit was very spacious and an excellent location to explore both the north and south parts of the island. The condo is located along a 5 mile paved coastal trail, which is great for cycling/jogging/walking. The kitchen was well supplied with respect to kitchenware and cookware. However, basic food supplies were expired. While the condo was superficially clean, it could use a good thorough cleaning. (ie. fans and towel holders had a thick layer of dust; kitchen utensils weren't clean properly).

Great home base in Kapaa
Great home base in Kapaa
We had a great stay here for 5 nights in May/June. Although the resort is older and more apartment-like, this unit is in great condition and was very clean, and makes a wonderful home base for exploring the island. The view from the lanai was as described, but even better, the condo is in an ideal location, walkable to shops and restaurants in Kapa'a, right on the bike path, and roughly at the center of the length Kuhio Hwy - making Waimea canyon and the Na Pali coast essentially equidistant day trips from the condo. The unit is well-stocked with dishes and a full kitchen, and Safeway is a short drive away (plus a health food store in walking distance). Beach towels are provided. The laundry room is at the bottom of the stairs, with 2 washers and 2 dryers at $1.25 per load. The bathroom has a clothesline and ceiling fan, so towels and swimsuits can dry quickly. There is an orange construction fence along the bike path in front of Pono Kai, which is clearly there for the safety of those using the path, probably because of erosion - so know this, but don't worry about it obscuring the view, as this unit is on the third and top story (which is also great for noise - we never heard anyone around us!). It's oceanfront, not beachfront, but there are several good beaches close by - I liked Kealia beach just north of there. There is no A/C in this unit, but if you keep the lanai door open (screen closed) and the fans on (there's one in each room), it stays plenty cool from the ocean breeze, plus you can hear the waves crashing just outside! We also enjoyed the bottle of wine from the owners' vineyard. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

This was our second trip to Kapaa staying at Pono Kai. You can't beat the staff or the central location for day trips to various areas of the island. The activity desk offers great service and seating was always premium. This unit was as promised and more. Furnished well, comfortable beds, clean, well maintained and the grounds are immaculate. There is no air conditioning but being the top unit there was adequate air flow and no noise from residents above that can be annoying. The lanai was a great place to see the sunrise, watch the whales or just relax. The walking trail as well as local restaurant and shops make the location even more enjoyable. Many thanks to the owners for providing a wonderful place to enjoy our vacation!

Listing description is accurate, along with photos. Clean and well maintained (kitchen cabinets look new, other upgrades). View is beautiful, especially sunrise and moon rise. Well located - walking distance to several good places to eat and shop. Steps from the bike path. Perfect for us as we were visiting daughter and family who reside in Kapaa. The unit was a good gathering spot - spacious and good dining table, chairs, etc. Also the ocean provided a good visual and auditory backdrop for our activities. Elevator handy for 3rd. floor unit. We highly recommend this rental!!

Cozy in a Gorgeous Setting
Cozy in a Gorgeous Setting
We couldn't have chosen a more perfect setting for our first visit to Kauai. We spent one week in the Nords' spacious and cozy unit overlooking the ocean and glorious sunrises (unit faces east). I looked forward to getting up at first light just to watch the sunrise. A tremendous plus for me was the wonderful paved walking/cycling path that began near the condo and continued for several miles along the coast past beaches, rugged and rocky coastline, through lush meadows and quiet secluded coves - what a way to start the day! The layout of the condo with the loft bedroom and a downstairs bedroom was great, exactly as described and depicted in the listing photos. Everything we needed for our comfort was provided. The town of Kapaa was at our doorstep with its quaint old buildings and cute boutiques and eateries. The landscaping on the grounds of the condo complex was lovely. We lacked for nothing. After a long day of exploring this spectacular island, it was such a treat to return to the comfort of our condo and a leisurely meal. Thank you Will and Jeanette for a memorable visit.

My husband and 2 kids (ages 8 & 10) had the BEST time in Kaua'i on our trip in June. The east side IS the windward side so just expect it. But a half hour drive to the north or south shore really made our trip easy and carefree as we went wherever the sun and surf was best that day. The Ono Ono Shave Ice right across the street from the condo complex was unbelievable!!!! We had one nearly everyday! The historical town of Kapa'a was a couple of blocks away and we loved the choice of restaurants there. The condo was in perfect working order, very clean, good taste in decor, simple, and had all the everyday essentials we needed. We also played croquet, basketball, volleyball, and the use of the pool and hot tub while we were there. The kids really loved that. We will DEFINITELY stay here again the next time we're back in Kaua'i!!!

Fantastic central location, amazing views
Fantastic central location, amazing views
Our family of five has just returned from three weeks on Kaua'i and this condo was a perfect home base. The view from the lanai was a highlight of our stay and the photos don't do it justice ... So peaceful and good for the soul. The condo was well-equipped with everything we needed and the loft was fabulous for our teens/ pre-teen. The grounds of the Pono Kai are gorgeous and include conveniences such as a pool, tennis court and barbecues. As well, the staff are friendly and accommodating. We love the location right in the heart of Kapa'a with everything from souvenir shopping, groceries and the fabulous walking/biking/running trail just seconds away. The condo is also within easy driving distance of the north and south of the island, making it perfect for sightseeing. The booking process was convenient and went smoothly. We would definitely stay here again and can't wait to go back!

More than we expected. Whale watching time and saw them breaching and blowing constantly from the lani. Lovely paved walks out the front of the unit along the waterfront. Facilities were great (serviced Barbeques, Spa pool, etc) and staff very helpful. Walk to Dukes for meals (value for money). Was a bit cool to swim that time of year but plenty of other things to do instead. Highly recommend the helicopter rides over the island. Fresh fruit and veges from the markets were great. Kauai Coffee also really Really good- visit the farm to find your taste (about 40 different flavours) and buy as much as you can - doesn't last long enough ! Hanalei was good shopping for the ladies with Tahiti Nui good service, good food, well priced (if you can get a seat- be early !) and great local entertainment. Great catch out fishing although found a little expensive for the charter. First time to Kauai - the big chicken farm- but a really nice place to chill out, relax and unwind. Will definitely try to get back and chill out again.

Their daughters and husbands join them in the business and now Will and Joan spend time enjoying their 5 grandchildren and sneaking away from time to time to Kapaa. Why the Owner Chose Kapaa:
We fell in love with its small town feel and the sound of the ocean waves caressing us as we relax in our living room or on the lanai. We love the relaxed, beautiful 12 acre setting and we wanted to choose quieter, cleaner, greener Kauai after visits to Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island. We share the condominium with family and friends as well as folks looking for a Hawaiian getaway place to rent. We have a number of repeat renters who have also found our little gem to be most relaxing, with a fantastic location and amenities and unbelievable views and sunsets (and sunrises if you awaken early enough :-)
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Kapaa is a friendly town with unlimited activities for everyone. From great shopping to sunshine, we have it. Grab a cup of coffee and homemade bread or macadamia nut sweet rolls at the local bakery. Enjoy shaved ice and an open air markets where locals shop for crafts, fresh local produce and sweets. Take a quiet walk along the beach or enjoy the ammenities of the condominium association or head out to the ocean to swim, surf or snorkel. Take an outing, golf, hike, four wheel, scuba, kayak, hula, sail, rest and then play again! Or stay home and BBQ the fresh catch of the day.
