Just returned from a girls' week with 3 other friends--this house fit our needs perfectly! The house was immaculate--plenty of room and could easily have slept more people. The kitchen is very well stocked, the owner's have directions printed at various locations in the house to make finding things easy, and I loved the shower! We slept in, spent the afternoon touring various sites (old downtown area, Terry Redlin Museum, Mellette House, Laura Ingalls Wilder museum in DeSmet and the Schade Winery in Volga) and then finished off the evening playing games at the kitchen table--after enjoying the evening on the patio. The Terry Redlin Museum on the east end of town is a "must-see;" I would make it the first stop, as they have tourist info for many of the local sites. Some of the stores/businesses in the old downtown area are not open Monday and Tuesday, so save that area for later in the week. One suggestion--another mirror or two on the upper floor would be nice, especially if it was located near an outlet. All in all, I would highly recommend this home on Kampeska Lake.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We enjoy the area's attractions, also. Watertown is within an easy drive of many interesting and educational sites. Thanks for the hints about opening times Downtown. We may add a full length mirror upstairs. Thank you for the suggestion!

For our ladies retreat we couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting. The house was immaculate and the owner thought of just about every thing we might need. Beautifully decorated and family friendly. The view was wonderful. Since we were there in mid May it was just on the chilly side and the wind was very strong at times. That of course, was not the owner's fault. We felt safe, comfortable, and once again everything was sparkling clean. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for peace and quiet with a beautiful view. Easy access to Watertown and the Indian Casino. I just can't think of a negative thing to say about this property or the owner. We will definitely be going back, just a little later in the year. Thank you to the property owner for your thoughtfulness from the dishes to the towels and everything in between. 1 thing I would have liked was to bring my dog with me. But I totally understand the owners rules of no pets.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We try to make the home as comfortable as possible for our guests. We are usually close by in case anything is missing, etc. We want our guests feel like they are "at home" and feel comfortable and safe. This year we remodeled the downstairs bathroom, and fixed the Internet access problem (we hope). There are always improvements to make, and we are trying our best to give a good value vacation to our guests.

We just returned from a 9 day stay at the 'Kampeska Cabin'. NIne of us were there from California for volunteer work. We were not able to enjoy the lake as much as we would have liked since the weather was unseasonably cold and we were busy working most of the day. But the cabin was clean, cozy and comfortable when we came back in the evening. We especially enjoyed the fireplace and the friendly living room with a lovely view of the lake. The owner was very helpful and answered our questions honestly and clearly. We would recommend this vacation home to anyone who is looking for a comfortable, well maintained, clean, lakeside house at a reasonable price.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in our home. Of course, if the weather was ours to control, we would plan a perfect stay every time! Our community appreciates your work, and we hope that in the future you can come back to South Dakota and see more sunshine!

Thank you for a wonderful, fun place to enjoy every minute 24/7. Accommodations were excellent and comfortable. Our family of 12 (7 grands) arrived in mass and brought all the xtra toys (water and wheels) which made the much appreciated garage and outdoor space priceless. The washer and dryer was indispensible. Neighbors were friendly and helpful. As you know the WiFi was not able to meet our needs but after a few tech calls we slowly muddled through as one of us was on the clock and needed access to the internet. Only one suggestion for improvement... please consider a new refrigerator investment. As this year was a 15 year reunion we were booked solid with relation gatherings; we look forward to an opportunity to enjoy a longer stay in the area to enjoy the surrounding activities and fun spots. Thank you for having us!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you for your recent stay at our vacation rental. We have some ideas for the WiFi but will need the property to be vacant and it has been booked all summer. Your idea for a new refrigerator is a good one. We spent a lot of money remodeling the house, but the appliances are original. Please consider staying with us again if you have the opportunity.

we stayed 2 weeks. The home was exactly as advertised. Some issues with wi-fi but the owner was very responsive and helpful. Would highly recommend for a relaxing vacation.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: As we improved the home in 2010, we put all-weather aluminum siding on the outside.....we are still dealing with internet issues, mostly because the siding interferes with the signal reception. We may put an internet cable into the home at some point. In the interim, we are unable to guarantee internet access, at least until summer of 2012. (Sometimes the internet works great, sometimes it gets reception only outside on the patio of the home.) We have taken "wi-fi" out of the "amenities" section of the web site until we get it truly fixed. We know how important "being connected" is for everyone today, so we are trying our best to get the internet fixed for good!

What a great place for a get away. My wife and I truly enjoyed the stay in your home this past weekend. The lake, home and town made the weekend a memorable experience for both of us. We will definitely be back. Thank you for sharing the property with us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We are new to VRBO, and just finished remodeling the home July 2010. We appreciate and learn from comments from guests, and will make reasonable changes if possible. We ourselves enjoy Northeast South Dakota and Watertown and Lake Kampeska in particular. Watertown has an amazing amount of assets for a small town, including an excellent zoo, the Redlin Art Center, heated public swimming pool and numerous athletic opportunities, The Lake offers boating and fishing, and has several good swimming beaches, two golf courses and miles of bike trails. There is excellent nearby hunting in the Fall and a cozy fireplace for the chilly evenings. We hope to have many repeat guests in the future.
