We recently spent a weekend at this farmhouse and thoroughly enjoyed it. The property was great- it was a charming house, very well maintained, and extremely comfortable. The owners were very friendly. Most important, coming from the City of St. Louis, I can not emphasize enough how enjoyable it was to spend a weekend on an operational farm. We took advantage of opportunities to milk a cow, feed goats, and enjoy farm-fresh eggs every morning. While our family is not accustomed to life in the country, we all loved the experience and certainly plan to visit again. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to get away from it all or to enjoy farm life for a weekend. We also visited Peoria IL for an afternoon which was easily accessed from the farm.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Our worship team had an overnight stay at this ideal location. We cooked meals together, had fun watching a movie and spent great time worshiping around the grand piano. It couldn't have been more perfect. This home would be great for any gathering. The owner was very helpful during the process of planning this trip. Overall a wonderful experience.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family (4 adults, 4 children) stayed in this unique house in February, 2013. This large house stayed warm and cozy inside, even though it was bone-chilling cold and snowing outside! It was in a rural area and had a nice size yard. Our grandchildren loved the farm animals outside and the large staircase inside. Every time I came down the stairs I thought of the scene in the movie, "It’s a Wonderful Life". The kitchen was fully-equipped and met the needs of our family. It had 2 large tables, so one was used for dining, and the other was used for games, etc. All 4 bedrooms were on the top floor, so the parents were just down the hall if the kids needed them during the night. (This floor plan was convenient also because I was able to enjoy my early-morning coffee downstairs without disturbing the sleeping ones upstairs.) Our family visited The Lincoln Home and The Lincoln Museum in Springfield, IL, which is less than 2 hours away. It was a remarkable historic site! We made some sweet, snow-white memories at this house, and doing business with Kris, the owner, was a pleasure. And...while you are there, be sure to order a pizza from Casey’s General Store just a few miles away. (It was so good!)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family and I come down every year for the Morton Pumpkin Festival, and most of the time we stay in a hotel. But with prices constantly going up, we decided to look elsewhere this year for lodging and found this house for a great deal. The house was as advertised and a great retreat from city life, yet close enough to Peoria and Morton to head into town whenever we wanted! My kids enjoyed the animals (especially chasing the chickens!), and my wife and I enjoyed the peace and quiet of country life! The beds were comfortable, and the newly remodeled bathroom upstairs was delightful! The whole experience was fantastic and we look forward to staying here again next year! I would highly recommend if you are looking for an alternative to a hotel!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The Peaceful Farm could not have been more perfect for our group. The home is lovely, comfortable and charming. We loved being next to the working farm and being able to purchase the fresh produce and keep tabs on the goats, cows and pig. Kate and her family were wonderful hosts - we especially enjoyed the tour of the farm provided by James. The farm house accommodated our family so beautifully - everyone had a comfortable place to sleep, and the younger generation gave the family room high approval ratings for a place for them to retreat to and play games into the wee hours of the morning. The front porch was a favorite spot for gathering in the morning with coffee and after dark to watch the fireflies. We enjoyed our walks down the country road in front of the house. Thank you Kris for opening up this beautiful home to our families who traveled from New York City, Minnesota and DC to be close to our ancestral home in Trivoli.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

What a terrific spot for our family gathering. We had plenty of room for our extended family to spread out when needed and large spaces to gather for meals. This is a very nice setting-close to Peoria and other smaller towns. We loved the country setting with farm animals to entertain the little ones, the deck and spacious front porch where we could congregate. Helpful owner and friendly local property manager. The kitchen met our needs for preparing meals and the bedrooms were spacious, and homey. We are sure to meet family here again as it is a pleasant drive from Chicago and St. Louis.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

My entire family lives in the city of Chicago. In the city. Every year I look for a family event that brings us all together and this year I wanted to give them all the experience of a farm. I have to be honest, the idea met with mixed reviews and perhaps the more challenging part was actually finding a farm. Not easy but I stumbled on this one. Well...........the farm hit the ball out of the park. My wife and I, my kids, and my grandchildren absolutely loved it. Milking a cow, a goat, eating fresh eggs (oh, thats where they come from). Turkey, pigs. Kate was a pleasant and welcoming host. Her son James only added to the wonderful experience. A real farm kid and mom. They actually do wear bib overalls! Nice people. Really nice people. Well, by the middle of the day that we arrived I was already being peppered by requested to do it again. The sprawling open meadow and the serenity of freshly planted three inch high somethings completed the experience. The house is immaculate and very well appointed. If you want a TV and DVD player its all there but if thats your interest your missing the best of what this farm has to offer. Catch up on nature and your roots and give Kris a call. Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: We are a family with two school-aged children and two grown sons. Our interests include farming, gardening, music, and aviation.
Why the Owner Chose Peoria:
The mom of the family grew up across the street from this property and has always loved the house and the pasture that makes up the six acres. When the property came up for sale in 2009, we felt fortunate to be able to buy it even though our jobs will keep us in a different state for the foreseeable future.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Because we stay in this house regularly for relaxing getaways, we are constantly evaluating and improving the experience for our VRBO guests.
Some of the things we love about staying here:
Peace and relaxation in the natural world, above all else. Birdsong on summer mornings, sun glinting off of ice & frost in the winter.
Healthy, local food in abundance (sister Kate runs a small farm adjacent to this property and uses our pasture & barn for a dairy cow and goats). Our kids have learned to milk and do all kinds of farm chores. Staying on an old-fashioned farm is a unique treat in this day and age, one we would like to share with you!
Hosting family and friends - lots of shady, breezy places to sit outside, space for the kids to run around, and enough room inside the house to spread out. Singing around the piano!
