we were glad to be in this part of the island, where wind blow strongly in the valley ( in winter) and the coast is so beautiful. Val and her family were VERY nice, the cottage is very quiet as the neibourghood. More kitchen tools and a better clean up of them would have been appreciated. But a warm thanks to our host!!

We spent there 6 nights during Christmas break. It was very affordable compared to any other place on the island! The cottage was nice and clean. The bedrooms are spacious. The kitchen was functional. The owners are super nice, friendly and helpful. The area is a great neighborhood and a perfect place to explore the island!!!

We stayed here for a week, we thought this was a perfect place to discover Oahu. Ahuimanu is a quiet and peaceful village set in a beautiful lush green environment. The really friendly owners live in the front house and will help you find your way and show you the best places for food, beaches, scenic roads, and Loa even took us to a waterfall nearby. Loa is very helpful and generous. The cottage is clean and has everything you need, and there are two friendly dogs who will greet you every morning. Honolulu, the airport, Hamauna Bay, the Polynesian Cultural Center, Swap meet, are about 30 to 40 minutes away by car. We've had a great time and loved the environment.

We just go back from a 7 day stay. It was a wonderful time!!! Unfortunately we were not able to meet Val as she was traveling, but Loa took care of us and was extremely helpful. The cottage was perfect for our stay - my daughter had her own bedroom, we were able to get groceries so we didn't have to eat out for every meal. The cottage was very comfortable with a constant breeze coming in each window and fans in every room. All was provided for us and it was very clean. We were even able to do laundry before heading home so we didn't have to worry with it when we got back! We would not/will not hesitate to re-book this locale for any future trips and would point our friends in the same direction.

We really enjoyed our stay in Kaneohe. The cottage is well equipped and away from the hustle of Honolulu. The East Side is very special, and the beaches at Kailua are 'the best' on the island. The cottage enjoys a great evening breeze each night to cool things off....very nice, very comfortable. We did a lot of touring each day. Up the east coastline to the North Shore, across the island to Ko Olina, or a short drive through the mountain to Waikiki ... all are easy accessible for daily trip. The owners are very friendly and made us feel like family. Only down-side would be the steep driveway and walkway to the cottage in the back yard, We would definitely recommends this cottage to friends and family......enjoy.

We loved staying at this cottage and the hospitality we received while there. We found it to be conspicuously clean, neat and comfortable. I didn’t realize it before but Oahu has a Desert side and a Green side. This place is located on the much prettier green side. The island is small enough to easily cover from this location. I am SO glad we didn’t stay in Honolulu. After visiting it a couple of times it just seems like any other big city I’ve been in. This place is perfect for you if you want comfort and serenity. It’s probably not for you if you need to be near the night life. Several other reviews seemed to make an issue of the steep driveway. My Dad is 73 and has a bad knee. He’s actually the one that booked this cottage and asked me to write the review. The driveway just wasn’t an issue. Loa offered to help us carry our bags when we got there and continued with great advice about things to see and places to eat leading up to the day we left. On our last day Loa invited us to go for a sunrise trip to Sandy Beach showing us some amazing things that tourists just couldn’t see any other way. It was a definite highlight and if you get a similar offer don’t turn it down. I would happily stay here again or recommend it for friends.

We would stay in this Ohana Cottage again! It was clean and comfortable for an affordable price; the owners were friendly. Good location for us, near friends...didn't need to be sleeping near a beach, we were happy to drive to beaches. Pleasantly surprised by some unexpected extras...attractive interior decorating, books, 2 beach chairs, 2 boogie boards and an insulated picnic bag. Thank you!!!

I grew up 3 miles from this Ohana cottage. Thirty eight years ago I had a friend who rented it so I was excited that it was available as it allowed me to be close to my family. Pluses: Charming layout. Loved the second bedroom. Washer, dryer available. View from the kitchen of the Koolaus wonderful. Upon arrival, interior clean. Loved the dogs. Excellent "aloha" and customer service from the owner, Valzey, who was quick to respond to my concerns as well as my sister's. Recommendations: Yard needs to be cleaned prior to arrival. No waterfalls as depicted in website pictures. Jalousies and windows need to be cleaned. Take care of the ants in the kitchen. Steep climb from the parking spot. Have a lookout on the road when leaving from the parking space as the parking space is around a very busy corner of the road. Replace the blinds in the master bedroom with blinds that allow more privacy at night. From our experience, this cottage is worth staying at but at a lesser rate than what is advertised. For the rate we paid, all of the above needs to be handled.

Our family had a great time at this cottage! The property is located about 30 mins away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu. Each day we visited all different parts of the island and never felt like anything was too far away. We were there with our 3 children under 3 years old and always felt right at home. The walk up the driveway is a bit steep and there are more stairs to climb after that, even with out kids it wasn't too bad. The owners were friendly and gave out great recommendations on sight seeing. I would definitely recommend to friends and family!

About the owner: My family and I have lived on the property for over 30 years. My dad is a retired firefighter, my husband works at the local newspaper and I work at the University of Hawaii. Our family also includes our two teenagers, dogs, and tortoise. When we are not working, you can find us at Sandy Beach where we enjoy bodysurfing, picking shells, and playing with our animals. We also enjoy hula, hiking and spending time with our friends and family.

                      Why the Owner Chose Ahuimanu:
My grand parents built the ohana cottage when I was born to accommodate their growing family. Now that everyone has grown up and moved out we share the house with visiting family and friends like you who want to experience Hawaii like a local instead of a tourist. Since Honolulu is one of the most expensive places to visit we wanted to offer budget and family friendly accommodation for malahini and kama'aina alike.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We live below the majestic Koolau mountain range. When it rains heavy here the water falls spill out and line the the entire mountain range from Kahalu'u to Likelike. The windward side is also blessed with beautiful greenery, sandy beaches, scenic drives and a much slower island pace.
