My husband and I found the Fergusons' Cabins to be the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of every day life. The cabins are located in a beautiful wooded setting with fantastic winter views of Grandfather Mountain and also the nearby slopes. We loved lounging in the jacuzzi and relaxing in front of a cozy fire each evening. The huge glass doors in the living room were wonderful as they allowed us to enjoy the beautiful scenery front the comfort of the fire. The cabin has all the amenities of home and more. The Fergusons have created a very warm and welcoming environment. We hope to return again this winter!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We had a lovely honeymoon here! Loved the fall color and then relished the snow we got-a taste of real winter, and so fun to use the fireplace! The local antique shops were such gems and hiking Grandfather Mountain was unforgettable-such a neat "scary" trail! It was so fun to be able to cook too-having a stove handy was such an exciting preview of real life shopping and making meals together. Beautiful memories. Enjoyed the classic radio station (89.9) and Scrabble on the comfy coutches! The commanding views of the surrounding mountains and the serenity and seclusion of the cabin were such a wonderful scene for this auspicious time in our lives! Thank you! Erich and Elizabeth EhlingerOwner response: We're so pleased to know your honeymoon at Mountainside Cabin was so enjoyable. Fall is so beautiful in the High Country and the snow was an early, but welcome, surprise for you. We can just imagine you playing scrabble on the coffee table in front of a roaring fire while the snow fell. We wish you a lifetime of the joy and happiness you shared at Mountainside Cabin. We would love for you to come back for your anniversary! Janice Ferguson

We found the home "just good enough". With a two story drop off of the porch, we were not able to sit with our pets out there, as the spacing between the spindles could allow our medium sized dog to fall through. I know this sounds crazy, but sitting on that porch on the side of the mountain would have been great and was although they had to stand at the door and watch us. Also, the state of moldiness in the master bedroom/bath was so bad (smelled) that we had to use the other bedroom and sleep in twin beds. I don't know if this is a classic state in mountain homes that do not have air conditioning, or a problem due to the huge hot tub (we did not want to use it), in the bathroom on that side of the house. We also began our first evening there with a mouse sharing the living room with us, although never saw him again! The drive up the mountain to Seven Devils is not something that my husband and I would do again, it is tedious at best. Did not give us as much come and go freedom as we would have liked.Recommended for: Sightseeing.
Owner response: There is no mildew or mold in the bathroom or in any other part of the cabin. The odor you detected was from an animal which had died under the cabin. Our handyman would have removed it quickly if you had mentioned this when you called with your other complaints. He came the day after your complaint to replace burned out light bulbs and to readjust the screen door. We respond promptly to any guest concerns. I am sorry you chose not to use the hot tub. It is maintained in the highest standards of cleanliness and the cabinet is stocked with more chemicals to keep it clean while guests are in house and using it. I am sorry your dogs were not able to enjoy the deck. The photos posted in the listing clearly show the deck and spindles which were built to code. I am sorry you found the well maintained, paved road to the cabin so tedious that it limited your freedom to come and go as you would have liked. Seven Devils is a vacation home community populated mostly with retirees who likely have more driving experience than you. Perhaps you would have been happier at the foot of a mountain rather than on the Mountainside, as the cabin is named. I am sorry you were visited by a mouse. In the mountains, they sometimes find an open door and come in. They do not habitate our cabin. I hope the next time you visit the mountains you find a place to stay that is more suited to your preferences.

What a great little Chalet to stay in! Close to Boone, Banner Elk and all the village of Blowing Rock. The hot tub was a blessing after hiking Grandfather Mountain and the zip line at Hawks nest is close enough to walk to (which we did, and the kids loved). My favorite time was sitting on the front porch with the kids watching the Chipmunks in the yard and walking the incredibly quiet neighborhood. We will be back!Did you find this review helpful? Thank you for sharing your mountain home! We had a rough start with the winter storm and over a foot of snow when we arrived. Once we made it up to the cabin we had a wonderful time and the cabin was very cozy. The children roasted marshmellows at the fireplace, we made snowcream, fed the squirrels and even saw some turkeys! Everyone loved the hot tub! We'll definitely visit again! Shelly this is by far one of the best kept secrets of the high country! Your cabin is so perfectly located and has such great ammenities and decor it just suited us to a T. I would highly recommend your cabin to ANYONE wanting to spend time in the hills of NC, only a stone throw (litteraly) from Hawksnest ski resort and so close to Boone, Banner Elk and Grandfathers Mtn. as well as the fine dining at the Gamekeeper Restraunt just 3 miles away. it is all just to much to mention here.Owner response: I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! We hope to hear from you again. Shelly

The previous comment was actually made by my sister in-law. We had a wonderful family ski trip and the cabin was very clean and comfortable. The location of the cabin couldn't be better. Just down the hill to Hawks Nest for tubing...and a short drive to Beech Mountain for skiing. We were very comfortable and the beds were very nice...kitcen well stocked. The view out back is incredible if you love nature. Lastly, the owners of this cabin are some of the nicest people I've ever dealt with. They were exeptionally attentive and accomodating. Overall, a very positive experience. We would rent this cabin again in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We really enjoyed our stay at the Carolina Cabin. Beautiful scenery and a great little cabin. We would definitely want to visit again. It snowed while we were there which made us very happy. Clean, neat and convenient to everything. The fireplace was a plus, we built one every night. Loved it!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Why the Owner Chose Banner Elk:
When our daughter attended a nearby summer camp, we fell in love with the rugged mountains and cool temperatures. We wanted an escape from our scorching Florida summers and home base for skiing vacations. After searching for years to find the perfect location, we settled on Seven Devils Mountain and Mountainside Cabin.
Located on one side of a triangle anchored by the towns of Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk, Seven Devils Mountain provided easy access to these unique communities as well as nearby snowtubing, golf and ski resorts. We love that the cabin is just a stone's throw from Linville, Grandfather Mountain and Blowing Rock. The kids love exploring the wooded back yard and the quiet, wooded street is perfect for afternoon walks. We love the natural serenity while being just a few minutes from shopping and dining. In the winter months, the sunrise over Grandfather mountain is breathtaking.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Mountainside Cabin is--A GREAT RETREAT. Been skiing? Retreat to a couch in front of the fire with a cup of hot chocolate. Been hiking? Retreat to the hot tub to relax those aching muscles. Been shopping--'til you dropped? Sit on the deck and examine all your goodies. Been to Boone or Asheville amidst all the hustle and bustle? Retreat to the back porch to look up the mountain. You'll see nothing but nature. Been worn out by life in general? Retreat to the loft with a good book?
Mountainside Cabin is---WELL EQUIPPED. No one wants to "make do" while on vacation. At mealtime, we can find whatever we need in the well stocked kitchen. Good pots and pans, sharp knives, a full array of small appliances from electric griddle for those morning pancakes to a crock pot and mixer, pretty dishes, nice silverware, wine glasses and cloth napkins are all at our fingertips.
Two TV's, one in the living room and one in the master bedroom, allow our children and grandchilden to watch a movie on the dvd player while we watch our own shows on the king bed in the master bedroom.
Mountainside Cabin is---COMFORTABLE. A large variety of quilts and polar fleece throws are handy for naps or a snuggle when we catch a chill from carrying in firewood. The beds are top quality, as are the 100% luxury cotton sheets and other linens.
We love watching our children's delight as they watch their children's awe when they spot their first ground hog, make their first snowman, navigate the ladder to the loft for the first time, romp on the rocks, splash in the hot tub, walk the Mile High Bridge at Grandfather Mountain and later fall asleep in front of the fire.
When we bought Mountainside Cabin, we dreamed of the lifelong memories it would help create for our family. But we didn't realize just how precious those memories would be.
