Villa Ruggero is an old olive oil farm which has been restored to a very high standard to provide accommodation for large groups of family or friends to enjoy a holiday together on the fascinting and historic island of Sicily. It's set in the typical landscape of the Sicilian country-side, at 800 meters of altitude, on the edge of the natural park of Madonie and only 30 minutes from the sea at Cefalù. The farm has a charming atmosphere and an extensive panaromic view of the surrounding landscapes, including the volcano Etna. The farm is within 3 kms of the archaeological site of Polizzi Generosa, which is an important local town and near the biggest rock salt mines of Europe.
Visitors will be impressed by the often stunning landscape of the island's interior.
The farm is laid out in a unique way.It has been owned for several generations by the same owners, who have restored the farm using ancient building techniques and materials, combined with interesting modern styles. There are 3 dry-stone walled buildings which are joined by cobbled-stone paths.
Within these buildings the accommodation is set on two floors with 11 bedrooms which include a small apartment: 3 of the rooms have balconies that face the big yard of the entrance as well as the 'italian' garden, and the others face the different landscapes of the Madonie country-side. All the rooms are en-suite. The small apartment has 2 bathrooms and an internal stair. One of the bedrooms is larger, with a double bed and a twin bunk or 'castello' bed, perfect for children or a small family unit.
In total there are 28 bed spaces, and baby cots are also available.
In the main building of the farm there is a large dining room with seating for up to 28 people, which also has a unique feature fireplace in the lounge area.
There is a self catering kitchen with facilities which make it easy to cook for large groups.
Outside, the unique infinity swimming pool is the main feature. At 16 metres by 5 metres, the pool is excellent for relaxation and play, and keen swimmers can improve their fitness.
A number of outdoor activities can be arranged, including guided trekking in the National Park, and there is horse riding only 3kms away. A visit to a local farm can be arrnged to learn about cheese making and olive oil, and cooking lessons can also be arranged.

Sicily is a treasure trove of historic attractions. Layers of history have created a unique blend of art and architecture, from relics of ancient Greece to the Romans and laterly the Spanish. There is also the interesting influence that North African culture has left. In Sicily you can enjoy jaw dropping art and culture, the lush countryside, pretty towns and simple, delicious food.
The farm is very near the historic medieval town of Polizzi Generosa, which has many ancient buildings. The families of Sicilian Americans such as film directors Martin Scorsese and Antonia Scarpa as well as character actor Vincent Schiavelli, came from the town. Schiavelli was also a food and cookbook writer who wrote about Polizzi Generosa and his roots
Fashion designer Domenico Dolce, one half of the Dolce & Gabbana clothing company, was born in Polizzi Generosa.
Many people believe the towns of the interior of Sicily to be amongst the most attractive towns of all Italy, and Polizzi Generosa and the neighbouring town Castelanna are certainly among them.
The towns are almost at the exact centre of the island, with no other point being more than 2.5 hours drive. The historic coastal city of Cefalu is only 30 minutes drive.
A visit to Palermo, with its colourful and theatrical streets and markets, and its wonderful buildings and art treasures, is definately recommended
A great feature of the garden is that Mount Etna can be seen.
The farm is also on the edge of the Parco delle Madonie national park, with its many available activites. There is an adventure park for children and adults. It is possible to arrange for children of 6-14 years to enjoy programmes at the adventure park. For others there is horse riding locally, mountain biking, olive oil and wine tours, caving and bird watching. The owners will be happy to help arrange activities.
A cook and chambermaid can also be hired should the group prefer help with self catering. Mini bus taxi's are also available.
