  • Amazing home and location

"We came here with our 3 year old daughter, 17 year old son and his friend. The home was a perfect size for the five of us. The home is spectacular... It has everything you need - beach chairs, snorkel gear, kayaks, equipped kitchen, bicycles. If you wanted to just stay in town you can get around by bike or rent a golf cart. If you want to go hiking and see ruins, you'll need a car. We flew into belize city, rented a car, and drove the 2-ish hours through the spectacular jungle. A worthy site. The water was absolutely stunning... Very shallow and calm which was great with a 3 year old. Within a close distance there is hiking and Mayan ruins. There are also plenty of companies that you can charter out to the barrier reef. The people in Hopkins were so laid back and fun. The town is small with a dirt road but there are plenty of good restaurants and bars. Make sure to bring enough cash with you! There is not an ATM that will take foreign debit cards in town. We had to drive to Placencia. Most places do not take credit cards and if they do you must contend with them being down. The supermarket is simp,e without a huge variety but plenty to cook with. For us it was an amazing vacation that we plan on repeating. I have never returned so relaxed from a vacaction before. It was fun for all ages... Highly recommend it!"

  • ADK Visitors

"My husband and I stayed for three weeks at the Blue Moon Cabana in Hopkins. We also stayed for one week in Baby Blue Moon. Mirko and Annett were great hosts....always being there to answer our questions and help us plan outings. Both cabanas are extremely comfortable with all the amenities one could ask for. Our favorite spot was sitting on the front porch, watching the sun rise, watching the waves break, or just watching the people wander by. Staying in the village of Hopkins was a unique experience. There is great contrast in the village, fancy new rental properties next door to simple local homes, backpackers hostels, small local restaurants serving Garifuna dishes (Tina's and Innes), and small shops selling Mayan crafts. On the outskirts of the village were resorts which offered a fancier fare (try Love On the Rocks). A tip of the hat to Patrick for two wonderful snorkeling trips and a nice cruise on the lagoon to see the bioluminescence (it was magic). We also toured Mayan Ruins, tubed down a river and in caves, hiked, and went swimming in waterfall pools. Would we visit Hopkins again? Probably not, but not because we didn't like it...we did. There are just too many other places that we haven't visited..."

  • great place to relax and unwind

"Paul and Karen's place is a comfortable, lovely, welcoming home. It's a great place to sling a hammock in the shade of the palms and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. We were not quite prepared for the grocery stores (ah, how I missed Wegmans), so packing snacks as others suggested is a good idea. Try freezing the fresh coconut water in ice cube trays and dropping them into mixed drinks or cola - yum! There are a number of good places to eat nearby (the Curve Bar at the Marina) and in town (Innies) and if you can catch some Garifuna drumming, it's well worth it; be sure to get up and dance! So is the Mayan Chocolate "factory" in nearby Maya Center - now that's what chocolate should taste like."

  • Unbelievable

"We spent a week a Villa Verona and I didn't want to ever leave. The house itself is beautiful and well cared for. There are many excursions to see and do and a beautiful big pool steps from the ocean. The village of Hopkins was small and the locals are all so very friendly. The staff at the villa are exceptional and always there to help with anything, whether you are booking an excursion or even need something from the store. Liz and Louis were very attentive and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning again."
