"We recently stayed at Mariposa Del Mar and could have not chosen a better villa for our vacation. It was everything we anticipated plus more. The villa is absolutely beautiful and very comfortable. We were picked up at the airport by Phil, son of owners Bruce and Nicky, who are such a delight. During the 45 minute drive to the house, Phil filled us in on island life, specifics at the house, etc. Yes, the nearest grocery store is 20 minutes away but Phil stopped for us to stock up on drinks and snacks for the week. This property is an escape from the busy, touristy part of Roatan. Just what we anticipated and wanted! Each morning began with coffee and ended by relaxing with a glass of wine on the deck overlooking the beautiful water. The sunsets seemed to get more beautiful each night. Rosa purchased the food and along with her daughter, Pearl, cooked a delicious breakfast and dinner every day. Rosa's homemade tortillas are delicious and ribs were to die for. (We are all now on a diet!) Tuesday night was pizza night, and we enjoyed meeting the guests in Fuego del Mar along with Bruce and Nicky. The meal and food cost is a bargain compared to what it would be for us to eat at a restaurant for 14 meals at home. Fausto, the caretaker, was just a cell phone call away when we needed kayaks, ice for the cooler, or anything else. The housekeepers even did our laundry! Each evening at dusk, our outdoor lights were turned on and candle were lit (thanks, Lester!). When we drove up to the gate, someone was always there to open it. EVERYTHING you could possibly need was provided. We had an amazing time at Mariposa del Mar, even with a few ants, bees, geckos, frogs, and lizards. That's just part of the experience! I fell in love with K-2, the house cat who paid a daily visit. Having the use of a car and cell phone was also very helpful. We had no problems with daytime driving but did not attempt at night. We hope to return to Mariposa del Mar one day! THANK YOU for an awesome week!"Guest: Mark M. Date of Stay: March 2014 Review Submitted: March 22, 2014View listing
"The Round House served as a great base for our Utila dive vacation. This was our fourth time on Utila, and for this trip we brought two friends so we needed a larger place than we usually rent. The Round House fit the bill, and as a bonus offered great, easily accessible snorkeling right out front. The "master bedroom" included two beds and an en suite bathroom. Our friends slept in this room and it worked well for them, although beware unless the breeze changes direction from it's norm you'll have to run the A/C at night in this room. It's simply on the wrong side of the house to get a breeze when winds are blowing in the usual direction. However the A/C was cold and cooled the room down quickly. We slept in the "smaller" room, but it was still quite large and included a dresser and a closet that spanned the length of one wall so there was ample room to keep a week's worth of clothing, swimsuits, etc. It received enough of an ocean breeze that we ended up closing the windows and turning on the A/C just because there was a fine spray from the water. The kitchen was very well stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans, plates, cups, etc. - one of the four of us cooked breakfast every morning and lunch every afternoon very easily. The Blue Bayou area is quite nice, home to several rental properties, and is one of the few places on Utila with snorkeling from the beach and a shore dive. You can walk right out from the beach in front of the house and see all sorts of cool things - eagle rays frequent this area and at night we saw a couple of octopi. I would say though you have a little bit less privacy than some of the other areas of the island and you also really are better served if you rent wheels of some sort (bikes, golf cart, scooter, etc) if you plan on diving with a shop in town every day. We always dive with Alton's, which happens to be the dive shop farthest away, but if you dive with Coral View or Laguna Beach you basically just have to walk across the street. Two of our party were able to rent tanks from Coral View for a shore dive off the house. You could also walk to Gunter's EcoMarine dive shop since it's not to far on the other side of the public beach, it would probably be around 20 minutes."Guest: mrsjetset Date of Stay: March 2014 Review Submitted: March 29, 2014View listing
"We had a fabulous vacation in Roatan and staying at the Mangrove Dock Penthouse was a big reason why. Hosts Jackie and Peter were so friendly and welcoming, as well as helpful and attentive whenever we asked any questions. Peter offered to take us out fishing on our first day, in which I definitely would have joined had it not been for the fact we were all in Roatan for a wedding. The rooftop deck had unbelievable views, as well as the main balcony. The showers and rooms were spacious and the main areas had a home-like feel to it. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. The biggest benefit though was the cool breezes that we constantly were getting by being on the top level. In a hot and humid destination, this was huge. Using the AC would have been an added cost, but we didn't need it thanks to the breezes. We had incredible views of the sunrise and sunsets. The foot pool at the rooftop deck was refreshing to step into after walking around West End. And for anyone who wanted to take a quick swim, there is a nice pool on the premises to cool off in. So everything was great, the only drawback (and why I marked 4 stars instead of 5) being that our fridge didn't have the right temperature on the last 2 days of our week long stay. It could not get cold. A minor issue in the midst of many positives. I would not hesitate to stay at Mangrove Dock again!"Guest: Mr. Santos Date of Stay: June 2014 Review Submitted: July 10, 2014View listing
"We spent 2 weeks at Villa Azul with 2 other couples and had a wonderful time! The house was perfect and the location - excellent! Snorkeling the reef was awesome and the turtles were our favorites!! Well, besides Chica, the neighboring dog who is absolutely adorable (and that comes from a non-dog lover!) Peter, the owner, is great to work with and Vanessa is wonderful - helpful and fun!! We enjoyed all the neighbors and return vacationers and really look forward to seeing all of them on our return trip next year! The house had everything we needed and then some. It's easy to get into West End and West Bay and far enough away to be quiet and relaxing! But if you prefer to get a bite to eat at the Blue Parrot, which is just a short walk away, the food is great and the employees are delightful!! Perfect vacation!!"Guest: Dennis T.
