  • Great Escape

"Excellent place for an out of the country experience. If you like to get away from it all in a wonderful house that has everything to offer. This is the one. You have spectacular views from two decks with great lounge furniture on both. A well stocked kitchen. Fabulous shower on second level (shown in pictures). You are only approx 150 yards from the reef so you can snorkel, dive, fish, take a tour of the island, have a night on the town experiencing the island food and drinks, or just relax... plenty of places to do that as well. We had a chef come in one night to cook for us... the food was delicious. There is also a local little restaurant about a two block walk from the house that had wonderful local style food."

  • Best Stay in Roatan and Best Location in Infinity Bay

"We have been to Roatan many times and have stayed in top places in the West End and West Bay. We stayed in this unit in 2010 and then stayed other times in top villas in the West End. We did return to West Bay more times and stayed in IB, however Al’s unit was booked so we couldn’t stay there. Finally this year we were able to rent Al’s condo over the Thanksgiving Week. What a great time we had staying there. Al’s condo is perfectly located in IB close to the beach, but far enough from the Palapa Bar so the noise is not disturbing. Also being on the second floor is the best as you don’t have ground floor walk-by traffic and you don’t have 3rd or 4th floor stairs. Al's condo has comfortable beds, a great information packet, 3 TV's with feeds from LA and NYC (watched all 3 of T-Giving day football games as it was a rainy Thanksgiving!). IB is the place to stay as they have a back-up power generator, which kicked-in many times during the 3 stormy days we had. IB tap water is potable, and security at the resort is top notch. The IB pool is fantastic and the food at the Palapa Bar excellent. IB is located on the best beach and it's 50 yards out to the reef for snorkeling. The IB reception is a huge improvement over the basement check-in they used to have, and the staff at IB is exceptional. IB also has free airport shuttle service. Al’s condo offered the best stay we’ve had in Roatan after staying in 3 other IB units and staying in West End villas. We recommend this condo first, for its great location, second everything worked, and third Al is a great owner and very responsive to all your needs. You don’t need to worry booking this condo!"

  • Playa Bonita: A Stone's Throw from West Bay Beach!

"The beauty of Playa Bonita is its location to the beautiful beach in West Bay. We rented the one bedroom master suite with its expansive picture windows and large outdoor patio. Within 2 minutes you leave the hustle and bustle of the gorgeous sand beach and turquoise water to enter your own private space. We loved our stay here! The unit is clean with updated stainless appliances and a nice indoor living space. Both bedroom and living / kitchen area have great air conditioning. My only reservation is that the bed needs to be replaced with one more comfortable. I know it all boils down to personal taste but we found it too soft. We particularly enjoyed the private beach area, a nice retreat from the busy beach. The restaurants and bars are close by as well as excellent snorkeling right off the beach. You can't go wrong staying at Playa Bonita!"

  • Beautiful, peaceful villa on Roatan's south side.

"Balsam Rock is a beautiful house with lovely views of the ocean. Our group stayed for 2 weeks total, with some of the group arriving later after staying in Copan or Guanaja. The on site manager Jorge was exceedingly helpful and his wife Berta made us an excellent local breakfast one morning. Everything was clean and the house was well supplied for cooking. Due a problem with the pump, the plunge pool water could not be changed (the pump had to be fixed on the mainland) so the second week the pool was a bit cloudy but Jorge kept it swimmable for us. The balconies are really lovely - and there is plenty of space even for a large group to stretch out so some can read while others chat and everyone has their space. The house is located away from any commercial area which we felt was an asset. Day trips were followed by evenings at the house. The first week smaller group did most of their own cooking and when 14 of us were there in week 2, we opted to have Stephanie and James of Roatan Sun Splash Tours do most of our evening meals. We also scheduled several day trips with them - and everything was top notch. The lowest level room (really an apartment with 2 double beds in the bedroom) was a bit musty when we first opened it but that abated as the rooms were aired out. The stairways do not all have handrails, so anyone with mobility issues or with toddlers in the group might prefer a different setting. Snorkeling in front of the house was OK but not spectacular. Snorkeling on Pigeon Cay, however, was truly fabulous, so plans day trip there if you like to snorkel. Overall Balsam Rock was a great place for a group of adults and would be fine for families with older kids. Our group thinks that the place is more suited to 10 adults than to 14 even though there is bed space for 14 if people don't mind 4 in a room with the 2 double beds."
