love historic buildings and have been involved in a number of restorations.
My home In Sighişoara is a few centuries old and I am very happy to share it with guests when I am not there.
The house has an extraordinary history. It was built in the 1700s and it was mostly inhabited by Transylvanian Saxons, who arrived in province some 600 years earlier to help defend Christianity. The term “Saxon” is the local name given to Germanic settlers.
In 1976 the house was confiscated by the communist regime. After the collapse of communism - and after a long and costly court case - the house was finally handed back to its old owners, who sold it to us.
In 2017, we started the restoration process of the house which was vastly dilapidated. We have worked over two years with local crafts people who understand and value historic buildings. All materials used for the repairs are local and natural which allows the building to breath. All of its architectural features have been preserved.
For the interior design, I have purchased old piece of furniture which were lovingly restored. We have saved all the old windows and doors which could be saved.
The house is within a few minutes walk from the main square in the old town. From a few windows of our house you can see the Clock Tower built in the 1400s. All the streets and alleys nearby have immense character.
