Prior to our cruise, my friend and I booked this spacious 2-bedroom apartment in the heart of Rome... centrally located between the Vatican and the Colosseum (the two spots we wanted to visit). We knew we'd be cramped on the cruise, so we wanted the space to spread out, maybe do laundry, use a refrigerator, etc.
This place is near restaurants, gelato, luggage storage, a beautiful baroque church, taxi stand, and most everything we needed. The area is well lit at night and feels safe.
The host and his manager were extremely helpful... quickly answering our questions before and after we arrived. They provided detailed instructions about self check-in and out, and how to work appliances in the apartment.
They even arranged for us an airport pickup and a driver to take us to the cruise port (additional costs, but very convenient with large suitcases).
The building is on a narrow cobblestone street, just off a main street... quiet (especially the back bedroom!) Lighting is dim. I found the door key tricky to use, but my friend had no trouble with it. The showers worked great and we loved the towel warmers in the bathrooms. We loved the comfortable living room sofas for relaxing at the end of a couple very long days of sightseeing.
Note that there is a steep staircase (no lift) to this apartment. We had heavy suitcases for our cruise, but found that there was almost always someone in the building who was eager to help us.
