About the property

This floating home offers sweeping waterfront views of the river with spectacular sunrises and sunsets. After your dinner, you can then relax in front of your own fireplace which provides a comfortable end to your evening (no heat). You will enjoy a peaceful stay in this cozy one bedroom chalet while being entertained by a variety of wildlife including bald eagles and pelicans looking for their next meal. You will see dolphins swim by as they follow the commercial fishing boats hoping that they will capture some of their catch . The boating traffic in this low wake area includes both large pleasure yachts as well as the famous Apalachicola commercial fishing boats out for their oyster, shrimp and grouper. There are fishing rods available onboard for your afternoon relaxation. Parking is only a few steps from your vacation home.

The interior of this gem offers a fully stocked kitchen with all full size appliances, televisions with all DISH channels, WiFi, a large bathroom, an office area and a separate bedroom featuring a queen size bed. Coffee is provided and all linens are included. Just bring your suitcase to start your vacation aboard the Rebel's Rest. Your stay may include the use of a kayak to explore the waters around Apalachicola which can be launched from the side of your floating home.

Just a 5 minute walk to town as your floating home is moored just a couple of blocks from downtown Apalachicola. You may spend your time browsing the shops and art galleries in the area or dine at the many restaurants in town which specialize in the fresh seafood of the area. The famous Up the Creek Restaurant and Raw Bar is located right next door and serves the best oysters in town along with a variety of other fish, chicken or beef. For slightly more upscale dining, there is Up the Stairs which serves only to adults and has a very romantic atmosphere. You may also wish to have breakfast at Caroline's on Water St. which has been rated as serving one of the best breakfasts in Florida.

For the beach lovers, a twilight stroll along with beaches of St. George Island is a short 15 minute drive away. The panhandle beaches with their white sandy beaches are rated some of the best in the United States. You can get a panoramic view of the surrounding area by walking to the top of the St. George Island lighthouse. For sunbathing, the State Park is the best kept secret with a very secluded beach for your enjoyment.

For romance, a fishing adventure or just a relaxing get away from your hectic life, you will find a wonderful and completely enjoyable vacation aboard the Rebel's Rest. Perfect for anniversaries, birthdays or marriage proposals!

We LOVED this place!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent four days and loved it! Karen is very nice and does an amazing job taking care of everything. The location was perfect! You can walk to everything in town and when on the houseboat, you have the most amazing view of the river and marshes. I would definitely recommend Rebels Rest!

A unique experience on a houseboat , very relaxing and scenic.

  • 5 of 5

Neat, clean, and tidy, plenty of room for 2 people on a small houseboat, with all amenities of a condo, air conditioning, fully equipped kitchen , wifi, DISH TV, and kayaks available to slip right off into the water. Dolphins may swim right by while sipping coffee on the porch. I am so glad we chose to stay here , and the proprietor was wonderful, available for whatever was needed.

60th Birthday Celebration Success!!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Rebel Rest for my 60th Birthday, wanting to do something different for such a milestone. It was more of a staycation since I am an Apalachicola resident, but it was fabulous, nonetheless. Waking up to a view of the Apalachicola River, a body of water I see daily, was totally incredible because I got to see it from the deck of a houseboat, quite a different perspective being so up close to passing shrimp boats, yachts and kayaks. The Rebel Rest is beautiful and I was able to relax and completely enjoy my stay. I so enjoyed my weekend and look forward to doing it again one day.

Adorable and comfortable houseboat perfect for two!

  • 5 of 5

This trip was a spontaneous getaway for myself and my hubby - mostly because he's always mad at me for working OT! We had never been to Apalachicola and I wanted to stay somewhere special on the water. My hubby is a huge fisherman and I figured he could fish off the porch. The houseboat was delightful - big enough for two, two TVs with all the Dish channels: BUT we didn't turn the TV on ONCE during our stay! TV just doesn't hold a candle to the view from the porch!!!! When we weren't out walking thru town we wee sitting on the porch admiring the view! The houseboat has a full kitchen (no dishwasher) and a fully stocked kitchen with all the appliances and utensils you need to cook - but with the restaurant 50 feet away with ANOTHER stunning view and all the great restaurants in Apalachicola we didn't cook at all! The bathroom is full sized with fluffy soft towels. The bed is a Queen and while the bedroom is tight the bed is comfy and all you do there is sleep anyway. My hubby took a chartered fishing trip from BackCountry Charters and Captain Jimmy picked him off from our porch - I didn't have to drive him to a Marina AND he caught a TON of fish! Papa Joe's cooked his catch at a very reasonable price and it was delicious! Cafe Con Leche is just two blocks from the houseboat and they make the fancy (or plain) coffee of your choice AND have delicious sandwiches and pastries - we went there every day at least once! I bought some pearl jewelry for my friends back home at the Shop - right next to the Apalachicola Sponge Company - great prices for natural, uncultured Apalachicola oyster pearls! Hit Downtown Books and Purl as well for a relaxing book (Even though I TRIED to read at the houseboat all I did was look at the view....) and a nice selection of yarn. There's plenty to do Apalachicola but the streets roll up at 2100 so if you're a night owl this place is probably not in your time zone! Have dinner at The Owl at least once for an upscale treat in casual dress! And STAY IN A HOUSEBOAT - You will NOT regret it!!!!
