About this property

Spacious Floating Condo on the water with upscale amenities New Water Filtration

This property is a unique and well appointed floating condo with all updated features. It has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a double bed. There is 1.5 bathrooms which share a shower but still retain complete privacy for each bedroom's occupants. The kitchen has all of the features of a modern home such as a full size refrigerator, new stove and microwave. Small appliances include a coffee maker (coffee provided), blender, toaster, electric can opener along with dishes and glasses and more. The kitchen surfaces are solid Corian with indoor dining seating available for 4. All furnishings are very upscale. The art features a local artist, Tom Tiffin, who has captured a very authentic portrayal of a local shrimp fishing boat. The best feature is the large front porch which offers a spectacular views of both sunrises by looking to the right and sunsets on your left. There are always either boats, fish or birds to view from your porch. Today, I saw 2 dolphins swim by. This area includes seating for 6.. The all electric 950 sq. ft. houseboat offers all of the modern systems including an easily controlled air conditioner/heating system It has an aluminum hull and is surrounded by a new floating dock system which makes getting off and on a breeze. A comfortable temperature can be maintained at all times of the year by merely opening the front and back doors to the river breezes. This is indeed a wonderful way to spend a relaxing and comfortable vacation.

Property just as advertised. Several fantastic restaurants within walking distance and beautiful beaches less than 20 minutes away. Highly recommend if you're looking to "get away." Karen always available to answer questions and make recommendations. Will definitely be back!

Town and river - the best of both

We couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. It was perfect - so convenient to everything in town and so 'away from it all' when we were on the back deck. It was hard to get any reading done because there was always something to look at - shrimp boats, osprey, bald eagles, pelicans, dolphins and even an alligator. It was just wonderful. The houseboat was clean and comfortable and has everything you need.

Amazing place and amazing host. Perfect location right on the water. Perfect for watching boats go by and animals doing what animals do. We were slightly concerned about rocking motion from wakes and higher humidity so close to the water. Neither were an issue and we all slept like babies. Highly recommend. If you are in doubt book it. Easy parking in a secure lot. There is room if you are bringing a boat. Just coordinate with the host. Easy drive out to St George island or if you want a longer trip you can head to Panama City. Town is quaint with shopping and dining. However it does shut down early so plan accordingly. We would happily stay here again.

Perfectly located, spacious and beautifully maintained. Comfortable and peaceful inside and out.

The back porch of the Southern Comfort overlooking the river is one of the most peaceful places in the world to me. This was my second stay here, with an old friend, and my husband and I have already booked a weekend in October to celebrate our anniversary. We enjoy walking around the town checking out all the little shops or driving up the coast for the afternoon but my favorites are sunrise on the porch, watching the pelicans fly up river and waving or speaking to people in the boats. On that porch we feel like we've literally (although temporarily) turned our backs toward the cares of this world to focus rather on things that are true and lovely and peaceful. This makes everything else worthwhile. Oh, yes, the houseboat itself is perfect too! Thanks, Karen, for all the effort it takes to maintain it so beautifully.

beautiful view BUT needs cleaning

The property has great views. The porch was great however just know neighbors on both sides are just feet away and hear and see everything so no privacy while on the porch . We were very surprised how dirty it was considering we paid over 500$ per night. At that price we did expect the quality to fit the price. I took pictures and showed them to the owner. The mattress cover had stains and hair on it. Their was hair and dust on the baseboards through both bathrooms and the area around the trash can was filthy. There as dirt and grime around the blinds and windows and some of the floor boards were broken as well. If needed I can submit pictures. My suggestion is to have the place professional cleaned !

We had a fantastic vacation!! The property was excellent!! I highly recommend this place! We travel all the time and this is definitely where we coming back. We enjoyed the property so much we didn’t really get to see the area. We will be back this summer and hopefully can get this property again!

First trip to Apalachcola

This was our first trip visiting Apalachicola. We were excited to stay on the Southern Comfort and it did not disappoint. The houseboat was stocked with everything we needed and more. It was very clean, spacious and well decorated. We enjoyed the quaintness of the boat and everything Apalachicola had to offer. That location was perfect!

My fishing buddy and I loved sitting on the porch watching the tides go by. Caught a fish from the porch. Our captain picked us up at the porch. Walked to great restaurants. Yep coming back

Southern Comfort did not disappoint. We enjoyed the accommodations- especially the covered deck. The use of the kayaks was appreciated and the ready to use fishing poles were a nice gesture. Highly recommend!

Those sunrises 😍

My husband and I stayed on the houseboat for a long weekend for a destination wedding. All the guests were sprinkled throughout properties in Apalachicola. The deck is truly a spot to enjoy all day long this time of year (February) and we were up every morning at 630 to experience the breathtaking sunrises. It’s peaceful, walking distance to everything. I gave it 4 stars for cleanliness for it’s a boathouse. I wouldn’t expect it to be 5 stars. It’s charming, not perfect, and we enjoyed every minute of our stay!

In the center of ALL Apalach has to offer, Sunrises to Sunsets

Restful Serenity in the center of Apalachicola within a beautiful mosey around town!!! How can you miss, when your host is "Living" in the next "Boat"? All will be Right AND It Was!!! side note: this was my son's first ever visit to Florida and of course Apalachicola, Yeah, He's hooked!!!

Southern Comfort at its best

I was looking for a peaceful space with a beautiful view, enough space to live in, and nearby good food. This beautiful place hit the mark on all! A lone traveler I felt safe and comfortable to wander the town on my own to return to a secure serene space and relax while watching the water fowl. Each morning I was greeted with a beautiful sunrise from the back patio deck and was able to fuel my photography hobby endlessly. Karen was so nice to offer suggestions for area dining and one of the best was right next door making it a great option if you wished to order dinner and take it "home" to eat on the back deck. Why would I ever want to stay in a hotel setting when there is Southern Comfort!

Location, location, location! Amazing views right on the river!

My husband and I so enjoyed staying in this cute little blue houseboat. Being right on the water was incredible. Nothing prepares you for the view! It was clean with lots of natural light, and like many former houseboat renters we enjoyed getting to know our neighbors in Reelaxation, the houseboat right next to us. They shared my husband's love for fishing - which we all did quite successfully right from our back decks! We also enjoyed wildlife viewing, kayaking right off the boat, and renting a boat and going up river. It's an experience not to be missed.

I fell in love with Apalachicola a couple of years ago and decided to make it my home. I have spent the last 20 years renovating a 1850s Victorian home located in central New Jersey along with raising my 2 sons. I am an avid history buff and have only begun to research the historical importance of the Florida panhandle.

Why they chose this property

After renting the Reelaxation (the adjacent houseboat to the Southern Comfort), I found that staying aboard a houseboat was so relaxing that I wanted to spend more time. The amount of activity going by on the water was so interesting from the commercial fishing boats going out for a successful trip to luxury yachts just out for fun. Watching the dolphins swim by, the pelicans perching on the nearby posts and birds of all varieties diving for their food, it is truly a never ending experience.

What makes this property unique

I choose this property for its sensational views of the sunrises and sunsets from the front porch. A relaxing afternoon floating on the houseboat while watching all of the activity or just enjoying the cool breezes with a good book. The location is ideal with easy walking to the area shops which feature local artists' work and a wonderful variety of local restaurants. The sandy beaches of St. George Island are only minutes away by car. There are several golf courses located in the area as well. But, of course, the best fishing is in Apalachicola with a variety of fishing guides.
