One of the most southerly Scottish Isles, Arran encapsulates the grandeur and majesty of Scotland, but all packaged within an accessible area 19 miles long by 10 miles wide. Your holiday adventure begins on the ferry from Ardrossan with views of Goat Fell, Brodick Castle and the ancient and spiritual Holy Isle.
Arran is a fantastic place to see the second largest fish in the world, the basking shark. Frolicking porpoises and seals are frequent visitors too. There are mystical standing stones, a prehistoric burial site, a Viking burial mound and the natural cavern known as King’s Cave which inspired Robert the Bruce. The island has a scattering of pretty villages on Arran’s stunning coastline which are contrasted by a rugged and mountainous interior in the north. This is a natural paradise with sightings of red squirrels, golden eagles, red deer, otters, and seals. You can actually join an island safari! If you need inspiration for your picnic, beach barbeque or dinner then Arran offers it all on a plate and in your drinking cup! From jams, relishes, oatcakes, seafood, cheeses and chocolate to whisky and beer you will then have to plan one of the many walks on the island! With seven golf courses it is easy to see why the island holds such an appeal for golfers. For adrenaline junkies, Arran offers mountain biking, paragliding, canyoning, sea kayaking, scrambling and more!
At Blackwaterfoot you will find the Shiskine Golf Club with its unique 12-hole seaside links course which has attained cult status! There is also a tennis club, crown green bowling facility, restaurant, riding school, artisan bakery, Post Office, grocery store, The Kinloch Hotel and not forgetting the famous Arran butcher!

We have stayed at The sheling various times and we just love it and always come back.
We have stayed at The sheling various times and we just love it and always come back. It’s clean and comfortable and very close to blackwaterfoot which is known for its breathtaking sunsets, charm and amazing bakery. The cottage has a peaceful calming atmosphere, a perfect escape from the world. The views are spectacular especially from the jacuzzi bath with panoramic views of the Mull of Kintyre. We have had many summers in the garden enjoying family meals as well as enjoying the log fire in colder months. Honestly can’t wait to go back to our favourite place in the world.

Loved our holiday in this lovely cottage.
Loved our holiday in this lovely cottage. Very clean and bright. The Jacuzzi bath was fab. Only thing was you couldn't have more than one bath daily as there was only enough hot water for one, so we took it in turns to have one . There was everything you could need in the cottage, beds were comfortable ,with Plenty of room in the cottage. Blackwaterfoot was only five minutes away in the car, with a wonderful beach, and a hidden gem of a bakery. I will definitely be back.
