It was a very quiet setting. I especially enjoyed the dozen free-range eggs in the refrigerator, Later, I saw a lovely flock of hens who wandered clucking past the cabin.
It was so peaceful. They left so many extra items like eggs some milk and juice. There was plenty of towels, washcloths and extra bathroom items. We loved the visits from their dog and cat. The furniture and bed was comfy and the kitchen was fully stocked for cooking which we did a lot of. We don't often visit an area twice as we like to explore but we would definitely rent Mojo Valley Cottage again if we come that way again!
Highly recommended! We had a super time at the MoJo Valley cottage. During our stay, we enjoyed some birdwatching, stylish and comfortable accommodations, and relaxation. The location was perfect for easy access to local wineries, beautiful scenery, Makanda boardwalk, and Giant City State Park. Bonus: when we were hanging out on the deck, we got to enjoy a visit from a friendly dog (Coltrane) and a sweet little cat. Good times, good company, great spot.
We stayed at the cabin for two nights, in between sampling area wineries and hiking trails. It's a nice, cozy cabin, well maintained and provisioned by the hosts.
The lack of cellphone service at the location was a big help in disconnecting, though if you need it in an emergency, it seems like a short walk up or down the road was all it took to get back on the grid.
We booked this cabin because our friends were getting married at Blue Sky. This cottage was nothing short of amazing and the hosts thought of everything. They left us farm fresh eggs, a bottle of wine from their winery, milk, juice, muffin mix. It was very relaxing and hidden. No tv, no signal, no wifi so we were completely disconnected. We would 100% stay here again.
This cabin seems like it's in the middle of nowhere, however it's actually convenient to most of the local wineries and state parks. Overall, this cabin was great, it's nice and rustic at the same time. Communications, and provisions were very good, as well as the visits from Coltrane. Our one mistake was hoping that we would have cell service (ATT) at the cabin. You should assume to have no service. Otherwise, we had a great time.
Very nice place. Note: No connectivity. No wifi. Weak to no cell signal at the property. You can walk up the hill a bit to get a bit of a signal. Some people like that. We enjoyed being away from the constant flow of horror engulfing our nation at the moment. But, it's a really nice place. We net Don. Super nice guy. Gave us a bottle of wine. They own a winery. Excellent. Who knew Illinois could produce such good wine! And they provided us with a dozen farm fresh eggs. You see the chickens wandering around their property. And Coltrane the dog was fun to spend time with. He greeted us when we arrived and came over in the morning to say hi. Highly recommend.
I loved the quiet nd only being able to hear the birds. It was great to disconnect from the internet and TV. During my stay I can't think of one thing I needed that wasn't provided.
I liked that there was a desk with a good light were you could draw or write at. It was alaso nice that there were nice pictures on the wall and some pottery - that made it feel homey and not sterile like some places I have stayed at.
The hosts were very accomodating, friendly and easy to talk to. They were willing to help you if you needed but never bothered you. Coltrane, the dog, was awesome. Well behaved and he listened.
Lots of good hiking near by and good wineries too. Make sure you go to their vineyard. They have some nice wines and a great deck out back. Blue Sky is another close one that has free music on the weekends.
What could be better than a glass of wine and being outside?
We recently stayed at Mojo Valley for the second time. This experience was just as great as our first time. The property is in a great location near multiple wineries and hiking trails. It’s perfectly charming and well-stocked with extra features (like a dozen fresh eggs) that make your trip extra special. Thank you again for a great trip!
First, the owner was very accommodating considering it was soon after a big snow and I wasn't sure I would be able to get there even with 4wd. I was able to check in after confirming I could get there.
The fresh eggs were very good, and that along with the oj and milk is a very nice touch.
Great location, I can only imagine what it will be in a couple months with spring coming.
The cell signal is very slow which was perfect for my unplugged retreat. I streamed audio with minimal interruptions, but video was a no go (Verizon).
The only issue was I struggled with the key box both in and out. I hope to come back soon.
The cabin was perfect. The space, amenities, and location were outstanding. I loved driving the country roads through the magnificent fields, woods and small towns never knowing what would appear over the next steep hill.
Nice touch by the owners in providing farm fresh eggs, white tail deer and migrating hummingbirds for our stay.
We'll be back soon.
Lovely cottage near everything we wanted to see and do
We enjoyed our stay very much- the cabin was very nice and amid peaceful surroundings. It was perfect for two people and close to all the things we wanted to see- Makanda, Carbondale, Giant City State Park. The park is awesome and we did some fun hiking. There are a lot of wineries nearby as well. The hosts couldn't have been easier to work with. We would definitely return.
What a great place to unwind. There are a surprising number of attractions with a 15 minute drive (ziplining, hiking, rock-climbing, SIU, etc.). There is no television or internet, and very little cell signal, so it was great to unplug, relax, and spend quality time together.
