Lovely rural house at Carcans close to lakes and surfing beaches

Our house is a converted resinier's cottage surrounded by open countryside and pine forests, with three bedrooms and a large private swimming pool. The pool is not heated. Our house is situated in a small hamlet called St Helene de L'Etang about 5 kilometres from Carcans. The house is close to the largest freshwater lakes in France as well as the surfing beaches of Lacanau, Hourtin and Carcans.
There is an annex with bunk beds for visitors but it is very simply furnished and not suitable for young kids or use in winter months.
We had major problems with our pool in 2021 but these are now fully resolved. Also sadly the roof was destroyed by a freak hail storm in June 2022 and could not be replaced until September 2022 so we had to cancel all our summer bookings. The roof has been completely replaced and the rooms re-decorated.
The local area : Carcans has the essential supermarket but also the traditional French shops and local market. There is an excellent bakery/boulangerie and butcher. There is also a fantastic food and arts & craft market in Hourtin. Maubuisson lake is ten minutes drive away and there you will find sandy beaches, cafes, restaurants, sailing, wind surfing and safe swimming. Ten minutes beyond Maubuisson is the Atlantic Ocean, with miles of unspoilt beaches and breakers for surfing and invigorating swimming. There is golf, cycling and horse riding within easy driving distance including wonderful cycle tracks from Maubuisson through pine forests to the Atlantic beaches.

Further afield: Bordeaux with its fine architecture, museums, art galleries and shops is forty minutes' drive away to the south east. St Emilion with its narrow streets, medieval history and famous vineyards is just over an hour's journey by car. The Medoc with its rolling countryside covered almost every inch of the way with vines lies twenty minutes to the east of Carcans. Arcachon is also easily accessible and offers a range of activities including Aqualand, a zoo and nature reserves and the Pyla Dune- the highest sand dune in Europe.

The immediate area : The tiny hamlet of St Helene de L'Etang consists of about a dozen houses including ours which is at the end of the road opposite a small farm which has camping facilities in the summer. Beyond our house, the road becomes a sandy track leading to the largest freshwater lake in France which is accessible on foot (20 minutes) or by bike (10 minutes). This area of the lake is a nature reserve and the main lake beaches for swimming etc are 10 minutes' drive away at Maubuisson or Hourtin. Very little traffic passes our house making it ideal for children. Wildlife abounds including frogs, toads, rabbits, deer, lizards and a wide range of birds. We have no fences round our property.

We do not allow pets as sadly in the past dogs have chased our neighbour’s cat and chickens.

Vivien was super easy and very helpful to chat with...my kids and myself really loved the house..it sits in such a peaceful and beautiful spot...we loved having the pool to jump into on the times we spent hanging around the house...absolutely a lovely experience visiting this part of france.

The area is beautiful in the forest and calm. Unfortunately the house was not clean at all, dirty dishes and utensils and filthy areas around the house. The outside was run down, full of weeds and the pergola very unsafe and not attached so swaying. Very dangerous for children. I reported to host kindly and sent photos and the host merely said she would make it better for the next guest. I asked not to pay cleaning and money off my stay but this was ignored and host has continued to ignore my messages. A real shame for a house which could be amazing with a bit more love given to it.

Relaxing week in a wonderful home from home

We were a family of four adults and had a fantastic week in this villa. We cook a lot rather than eat out so were pleased to find a kitchen with everything we needed. The main bedroom with en suite was beautiful and the swimming pool was essential as we had a heat wave when we visited. The villa has a quaint rustic charm which made you feel immediately at home and relaxed. There was no noise or disturbance. Aude across the road was excellent. One of the party hired a bike for the week - it looked brand new and the service was excellent. Good wifi and TV. We visited Chateau Spleen in nearby Moulis for a vineyard tour and tasting which was excellent. Hourtin Plage was the best beach for us, much quieter than the others. If you want a relaxing week with no fuss then this is recommended.

Fabulous Holiday at Chez Resnier

Lovely welcome from Aude, local manager who took us through essential info key to which are fresh pastries and breads that can be ordered each morning. House spacious, airy, clean and with all amenities needed for the stay. Pool a huge hit with all of us; 3 adults, 3 children, big enough for numerous inflatables, again clean. House situated in large grounds, peaceful and quiet but within a few minutes drive of Carcans where the supermarket and local shops have everything we needed. Hired bikes, again organised by Aude, and cycled to Maubisson, slice of paradise with white sands and warm lake; cycle paths excellent and flat! Carcans Plage amazing for the surf and spectacle of protected dunes, variety of restaurants and shops but not touristy. Would definitely recommend to those who like to do something and nothing and we will probably return. Would say car is needed.

brilliant accommadation and setting

we loved this place. we were a family of 8 and had regular visitors for BBQs.it is homely inside and very comfortable and you feel as if you can treat it like your own. outside is great, so much space and a great pool. the picture does not do it credit. we played a game of water polo with 4 a side and there was space over. we also had some great games outside including rounders and football. the campsite opposite and Aude the local agent are great and really helpful. we hired bikes which were delivered and picked up by two fantastic ladies. for us it was a great place to chill, enjoy our family and friends and do just enough outings to appreciate the local culture and amenities. compared with other places in this region it was superb value too. highly recommend it and if you need more rooms just hire both cottages together.

Superb Property and Location

Chez Resinier is a delightful property in a wonderful location. Or visit consisted of just the 2 of us, but the property is large and would easily accomodate up to 2 families in comfort. The owner Vivien Harris, based in the uk, is very helpful and the booking process is straightforward. Arrival and departure proceedures are also uncomplicated, with little that can go wrong. The property is well equiped, clean tidy and has a wonderful feel about it. The grounds are large, with a nice pool and seating area, and gets the sun from morning to evening. The immediate surrounding area is very tranquil, with good walks, especially to the lake approx a mile away. A short distance away is the local village, Carcans ,with baker butcher and cave etc and a little beyond there, the renouned surfing beaches. Nestling between is Maubuisson with its access to the lake and an ideal spot to bathe with young children. Further afield are the famous wine regions, Medoc, Bordeaux etc to be explored. Bordeaux itself, surprisingly, is only about an hour away and this could be a consideration for those who would want to consider fly/drive. We have been visitors on 2 occassions now, and will hopefully return again to this wonderful property and area.

Villa agréable très bien située

Nous avons été ravis de séjourner dans cette villa. L'emplacement (calme absolu), les chambres et la piscine sont parfaits. Elle est de plus très bien équipée. Le seul bémol est l'entretien (maison, égouts, piscine, jardin), nous avons eu quelques soucis mais compensés par un remboursement de la propriétaire. Ne pas y séjourner si on est maniaque de la propreté, sinon ne pas hésiter !

Tolle Lage, toller Pool - leider vieles defekt und schlechte Kommunikation

Haus, Garten, Pool, Lage: perfekt für einen Urlaub mit zwei Familien. Alles hat ein großes Potenzial, welches wir so gut wie möglich genossen haben. Leider gab es Widrigkeiten, die uns den Genuss erschwert haben: - es war sehr dreckig bei Ankunft - die Sickergrube riecht sehr stark. Teilweise so, dass eines der Schlafzimmer nicht nutzbar war. - das kleine Nebenhäuschen war nicht als Schlafzimmer nutzbar, obwohl uns dies zugesagt wurde. Eher eine Rumpelkammer. - Bettwäsche feucht, eine der Dusch-Schläuche defekt, Wäscheständer und Sonnenschirme kaputt. - Alarmanlage des Pools kaputt. - Pool wurde erst auf Nachfrage nach 11 statt nach 7 Tagen gereinigt, um dann von der Verwalterin beschimpft zu werden, dass der Pool nicht dreckig sei (Boden voller Dreck). - nach einer Woche sollte Bettwäsche und Handtücher gewechselt werden: dies ist garnicht passiert. Wir hatten nicht den Anspruch, dass alles perfekt ist. Aber dass auf Nachfragen zur Poolreinigung mit Beleidigungen reagiert wird; dass uns nach Abreise versucht wird, die kaputte Pool-Alarmanlage in die Schuhe zu schieben und trotz vorheriger Versicherung, dass das Sickergruppen-Problem behoben wurde, nur ein "aber wir haben so teuer saniert" entgegnet wurde (ohne weiteres Entgegenkommen/Hilfe), ist völlig inadäquat für eine Ferienhaus-Vermietung. Und grenzt teilweise an Verleumdung. Wir haben versucht, im Anschluss mit der Vermieterin zu kommunizieren - leider erfolglos. Schade.

Nous avons passés un tres agreable sejour dans la propriete de Mr Harris. Celle ci est tres bien équipée et la piscine est magnifique. Idealement située,au calme tout en étant proche des commerces et/ou des plages Juste petit bémol concernant les odeurs emanant de la fosse septique qui parfois peuvent être assez desagreables.

maison agréable et bien située, malgré quelques points négatifs

les + : emplacement : dans la forêt, proche de Carcans, du lac environnement : grand terrain, calme équipements : très bien équipée, lave vaisselle, lave linge, barbecue, une salle d eau et une salle de bain, rangements, literie correcte maison : spacieuse, grandes chambres, peut accueillir 7-8 personnes sans problème les - : - ménage approximatif : la chambre des enfants était sale, et les propriétaires ne nous ont pas cru malgré les photos - piscine non chauffée et toujours en hivernage au mois d'avril malgré les 20°c extérieur, les enfants se sont baignés dans le lac et l océan mais n'ont pas pu profiter de la piscine - vraiment dommage, j avais réservé cette maison pour la piscine entre autre - odeur désagréable de la fosse septique parfois sur la terrasse Dans l 'ensemble la maison est agréable, conviviale, et bien située, nous avons passé un bon séjour, dommage que les prioritaires ne soient pas sur place, ce qui ne leur permet pas de surveiller l'état de la maison.

Plein pied à Carcans

Nous avons passé un très bon séjour. La maison est grand et les pièces sont bien agencées. La maison avait été préparée pour notre arrivée avec les radiateurs allumés, ce qui était fort agréable vu la saison. La communication avec Vivien a été excellente, je la remercie pour avoir été aussi compréhensive. Je recommande cette location quelque soit la saison.

A ne pas retenir !!!

J'ai loué cette maison car il y avait une piscine et je voulais offrir de bonnes vacances à mes enfants et petits enfants. Moins de 3 semaines avant la location j'apprends que la piscine ne fonctionne pas et qu'elle ne fonctionne pas depuis plusieurs années !! Rien ne m'en avait été dit au moment de la réservation. Impossible alors de trouver une location similaire avec piscine en état. Malgré le geste commercial de la propriétaire, je me suis sentie arnaquée. De plus, gros problèmes de sécurité : piscine vide, sans protection pour les enfants et abords de la piscine en très mauvais état et dangereux. La pelouse n'était pas tondue quand nous sommes arrivés, elle ne l'a été que 2 jours avant notre départ suite à notre demande du début de séjour. Il y a une fosse septique, au niveau de la terrasse où on prend les repas, qui pose aussi problème car celle-ci sentait très mauvais. Il n'y avait pas de produit dans la maison pour la traiter. Malgré notre réclamation à la personne gérant la location sur place, celle-ci ne nous a pas répondu et ne s'en est pas occupé. Odeurs désagréables toute la semaine. A notre arrivée nous n'avons pas vu la personne qui s'occupe de la location, ni à la fin du séjour. Cela est dommage car nous aurions pu nous expliquer avec elle. La propriétaire vivant à Londres elle a apparemment confié l'entretien et la gestion de sa maison à une personne sur place. Celle-ci ne nous a pas donné l'impression d'être très concernée. Elle ne nous a été d'aucune aide quand aux différents problèmes rencontrés. Dommage car la maison a un très bon potentiel et la région très belle et agréable.

Très déçu pour la première location chez Abritel,car annonce mensongeaire de la part des propriétaire,averti seulement 15 jours avant notre arrivée comme quoi la piscine n'ai finalement pas en service,et logement très salle a notre arrivée toile d'araignée dans toute les pièces,et très mauvaise odeur du a la fosse septique.

Randonnée vélo

Cette location est idéalement placée pour rayonner en vélo sur toute la région, exemple : le tour du lac d'Hourtin. Cette maison est située à une petite distance de la voie verte d'Hourtin et Carcans Lacanau. Le contact avec le propritaire est facile et compréhensible, la boite à clés à code est une solution souple lorsque nous sommes plusieurs dans la maison.
