Our parents bought this house when we were in our teens. We have spent every summer here since - its access to the water and its incomparable views keep us bound to it. At this point we rent it out four to five weeks each summer to help with maintenance, taxes and upkeep.
Mary Saudek Jaffee purchased this cottage in 1962
"We had a fabulous time. My grandchildren think this is their summer house, so we will be coming back." (This was after two years of vacationing at the house with four grandchildren ages 1 to 8; they are returning this summer, 2011.)
Our son got married at the Costal Maine Botanical Gardens on the 7th. We along with his siblings and a Aunt and Uncle stayed in the house the week before and a few days after the wedding. The house was perfect. I felt like I was living in my dream summer cottage with all the necessary comforts of today like a dishwashers and new washer/drier, but at the same time it is an older home with the quirks of sticky drawers and old wall heaters. More importantly it has the joys of an older home. My family especially love the large fireplace in the living room and the dining room that easily seats 14. When my daughter decided to make cupcakes the bowls, mixer, pans and even the paper liners were tucked in one of the drawers of the kitchen. It is very centrally located, easy to find, and yet very private. All the relatives, friends, groomsmen etc. found their way to our place and instantly moved out to the large porch at the back that looks out at the water. That feature continues to be the one that everyone references as the most wonderful part of the house. Wonderful week.
We knew Boothbay Harbor would deliver on it's charm because I grew up vacationing there as a kid. However, when we rented The Hull to celebrate my mother's milestone birthday and relive old memories, we never expected the place we stayed to be such a great contributing factor to a fantastic week! The entire property was very well-maintained, and the owners couldn't have been more communicative and attentive to ensuring a wonderful stay. They've taken care of everything - you just need clothes and groceries. The listing description and photos are 100% accurate; however, they don't do justice to the whole package. Favorites: every front window has a gorgeous view, the large dining table accommodates big family dinners, campfire on the rocks by the water, kayaking. Very private, but centrally located to everything we wanted to do. We highly, highly recommend The Hull to vacation and establish memories for many years to come!
We stayed at this wonderful home with my extended family in late June. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay--plenty of space, bedrooms, bathrooms, and beautiful views. We enjoyed walking into town (less than a mile away) with plenty of shops and restaurants to keep us busy for the full week and having our own dock with kayaks was a definite bonus! The property was well maintained and cared for. Would consider this house again when traveling back to Boothbay Harbor.
My extended family of 9 just spent a week....not enough time. So much room, such a view, we were lucky enough to be there for Windjammer Days and watched the fantastic fireworks right on the porch! We used the kayaks and dingy and my grandson totally enjoyed throwing rocks from our own beach! We had huge family dinners, made smores in the fireplace and even managed to complete a 750 piece puzzle. The kids shopped in Freeport (just a short drive) and walked to town many times and found all our necessities just down the road at the grocery and drugstore. We saw the Botanical Gardens, the Aquarium, the Coast Guard station and even took a couple boat tours including a fishing excursion. What a great place for any age!
We love this home!-going back for our 4th year. The home has authentic Maine cottage charm, character, a spacious living room, numerous bedrooms, and a view to die for overlooking the harbor with all the activities on the water. The yard is very large, nicely sloped, open, yet private. If I could have a second home in Maine, this would be it! I worked in Boothbay years ago. To be able to return and enjoy all the region has to offer as a tourist has been a real pleasure, though with staying at the Hull, I feel like I belong. 3 couples and teen age/college age kids have all enjoyed this home.It is clean, the owners very helpful and kind, and we would definitely recommend this property.
Bumper pool, games and puzzles, trips to islands, hiking, lobstering on lobsterman's boat, art galleries and museums
