***BAIT AND SWITCH ALERT***
I received a booking confirmation and my payment was processed, but I never received the access instructions that were supposed to be sent before check-in. Upon arrival, I spent a considerable amount of time outside the building trying to contact the host by phone, WhatsApp, and through the VRBO platform, without any response.
Eventually, I was contacted by another person who informed me that there had been a problem with the reservation and that the apartment was no longer available. Instead of the accommodation I had booked, I was taken to a different property managed by someone else. While the replacement room was clean and acceptable for one night, it was not the property I had reserved. It lacked some of the advertised amenities, including a washing machine, and appeared to be of a lower category and value.
What concerns me most is that the original host was unreachable throughout the process, and the accommodation provided did not match what was advertised and paid for. I accepted the alternative only because it was late, I was tired after traveling, and I had no practical alternative at that moment.
Future guests should be aware that there is a risk of being relocated to a different property than the one advertised. This experience fell well below my expectations and the standards I would expect from a booking made through a major platform.
