Private cottage with it's own fishing & pet friendly!
Rare property offering riverside access and private fishing on the river Charente. Beautifully secluded yet within walking distance of Civray market town, restaurants, bakeries and supermarkets which makes for a totally relaxing holiday. If you wish to drive, then days out at Poitiers (Futuroscope), Angouleme, Cognac are within an hour. Seaside trips to La Rochelle, Isle D'Oleron and Royan are within a couple of hours.
One of only two houses with river frontage in this part of Civray the grounds have 500 metres of private fishing on this prolific river. The front garden is walled and gated to the river so secure for children of all ages (and swimming dogs!), yet the rear garden is open and shaded by Walnut and Peach trees. There is a shaded terrace for alfresco eating and picking your own grapes to go with the local Goats cheeses.
Civray has an excellent indoor and outdoor pool complex a 5 minute walk away, prices from 3 euros, whilst the local campsite, restaurant and bar, with a swimming area for wild swimming in the Charente is even closer.
As this is our home, we have fully equipped the facilities with good quality items, and fitted Sky TV in order to keep in touch with events. Wood for the fire is stored should it be needed.
For winter rentals between the months of November to March, we request minimum 4 week let; all other months are a minimum 2 week let period, however, between 31stMay and 19th July 2025 weekly bookings are welcome.

Having owned our holiday home for 20 years, we love the French way of life - the tranquility, the people, the culture and of course the food and wine! We pride ourselves in having a "home from home" where we want our guests to feel completely comfortable in wonderful surroundings overlooking the Charente. We speak French and English so are able to communicate with our neighbours embracing the local culture - it normally results in the transfer of French vegetables too. We have rented our home for over 8 years with great reviews and many repeat guests who have become friends now.

Having travelled and stayed in various regions of France, we bought our home in Civray as it is very reachable from the UK, both by plane or car.
Although on the edge of town, our cottage is a hidden gem as is not viewable from road level. From the cottage and its gardens, we view the island and river Charente offering complete privacy, whilst being able to enjoy the surroundings and wildlife in abundance. Easily accessible to major tourist towns and the seaside is just a 2 hour drive away.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
Our house is a hidden gem and is mostly on one level except the second bedroom which is located upstairs via a spiral staircase. We have private fishing rights without the need to buy a permit. Situated opposite the island which has lots of woodland walks and cycle paths plus fitness trails. The cottage is equipped to a high standard with good quality furniture and accessories.
