Guestbook comments from the owner

from our guest book: Our week at Indian Summer was great. Sunday morning started out with an event - a sea turtle nested just to the west of the boardwalk. The Turtle Patrol moved the eggs. You can see the steel posts and orange tape. These should hatch Sept 25th, 2009. Hope whoever is here gets to see the run!

The dolphins, birds and sting rays were entertaining. Very peaceful and comfortable.Possum, Stinky and Boo [dogs] loved the screen porch. We wish all future visitors as good of a visit as we have had.

Can we get any closer to the beach???

  • 4 of 5

When we originally booked Indian Summer, we thought 4 weeks would be good. After thinking about being in Minnesota in any part of winter, we increased our stay to 6 weeks (without any problem on the owner's part). We were so happy to be in this house, on this beach, for 6 weeks. The stars shine so brightly, the waves sound so peaceful. It was an added bonus to see dolphins most every day, but especially great to see them before we checked out on our last day! We had a couple things that needed fixing and the owner was prompt in taking care of those things. The kitchen is well stocked! The beds are comfortable! The beach is spectacular! We enjoyed coffee every morning on the deck, enjoyed lunches on the screen porch. Our daughter and her family joined us for a few days and seeing our granddaughters on the beach was priceless! We will be back, guaranteed!

Great house needs TLC

  • 3 of 5

Great location. Owner easy to work with.

Interior in dire need of paint; in every room there are screws and nails protruding from what looks like multiple revisions of curtain rods/decor or something. Old wallpaper in bathrooms, peeling from all seams. The grout on all bathroom floors black with age/dirt. Exterior also needs work. Mold in the porch areas outside the bedrooms. Master bedroom colors very harsh; bright yellow and bright green and very old, as well as the bedroom furniture.

There was new carpet however, and the leather sofa in the living room was nice. And although run down looking, we did feel it was clean.

Owner's Response: Most of the noted problems are accurate except the bathroom floor grout is the original color. Black grout was used to accent other black features in the bathroom – per the original designer who specified something black in every room. Complete remodeling of bathrooms (new countertops, fixtures, tiles, paint) had been planned for Winter 2016 but something happened that has never happened before – Indian Summer was completely booked for the entire Winter season. We now plan to block the property for Nov/Dec 2016 and/or Jan/Feb 2017 to accommodate the 5-6 weeks needed to complete all the work. This is the remodeling list that we developed with the help of our local decorator: A. Completely update all 3 bathrooms with new tile, countertops, fixtures, etc. B. Paint all 3 bedrooms. C. Get new bedroom furniture D. Buy a bigger TV (and a suitable credenza) for the living room. and maybe E. Replace some sliding doors. F. Paint some of the exterior, such as the deck’s vertical surfaces, screen porch frames, etc.

Second visit even better than the first

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Indian Summer in 2011 and found it to be just what we needed. (4 adults). The beach is quiet, the house is comfortable and is well supplied. My favorite part might be the big sectional in the living room which has room for everyone. You can dine indoors or on the screened porch. There is plenty of room on the deck for dogs to wrestle and play. And it is walking distance to the Raw Bar. When we were planning our beach trip for this year no one wanted to look any further than Indian Summer. We thought we detected some upgrades - the place looked really good. And we had another relaxing visit. This year there were five of us and we all felt like we had plenty of room. We will be back again.

Just what we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Indian Summer during Thanksgiving 2012 - and it was just what we needed. Privacy, peace & relaxation - all with an awesome view! LOVED IT! The owners and their staff are very easy to work with. They want you to enjoy your vacation and don't nickel and dime you to death in the process. The kitchen is well stocked for vacation cooking (hey, we cooked Thanksgiving dinner here and it was awesome) but I would highly suggest bringing your own spices and specialty stuff - if you have to bring your Mother-In-Law or someone to impress. But you can buy just about everything at the Piggly Wiggly. The guys golfed at the local course - and disagreed with some of the reviews I had read online before we got here, slamming the course. They thought it was in good shape and had a great time - even complimenting the staff there. They enjoyed themselves. Also, they enjoyed the Indian Pass Raw Bar - which was wicked close. But the best parts were the location, the view, the privacy and the owners wanting to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. True Southern Hospitality through and through. Definitely a class act. For sure we will be back.

Map

Indian Summer House is in a secluded, quiet area far from crowded tourist traps. Located on Indian Pass, a small peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico, there are lots of birds, even occasional eagles, and many dolphins and sea shells. Nearby Port St Joe (8 miles) and Apalachicola (21 miles) are within easy driving distance, with quaint 'old Florida' charm, fun shopping and excellent dining.
